The Low Level Tennessee Thread Full of Casuals :)

I’m pretty new to Tek but when I get knocked down I just fucking lay there for min, if they hit me I can get up most the time they just sit there wiffing shit while I’m getting my tan on

No I understand what you mean, though I have to say this…3s was always the bastard child of SF, I like the game but it was broken beyond belief and people figured out with the “new” generation as opposed to just living it from the depths of an old Daigo vs Justin parry video.

In terms of MK9, Tekken players like that game because it’s a 2D Tekken; it’s not Mortal Kombat anymore…nothing wrong with that, but there is a good reason Tekken players are good at the game and like the game…

I know SF can look boring and honestly, it’s a defensive game, but Tekken defense is so important that if you don’t understand the ground game (even if you are decent at the high standing game) you will just get rocked…but “looks” and “flash” don’t always make the game “better”, it’s just apples to oranges in my opinion as I know many many things will happen in Tekken new for years because of the sheer magnitude of possibilities.

I mean I like Tekken but there’s only so much “whoops” I got hit with a mid/sweep = 50% combo time i.e Ultra everytime before you come to realize you’re having to look out for patterns with players; etc…I have just never been a fan of juggles…it’s why I think KOFXIII has some issues no one really talks about relating to those (same with Alpha 3) but it’s definitely a rough game to learn…

There’s another issue I think with Tekken; the player “pool” is imbalanced. I don’t go even with anyone, I either win all the time or lose all the time vs someone. It’s not even close. The only person I think I ever went “even” with is Chris Brown when he was playing Tekken 6 but it’s severely one sided with the players right now because of the lack of experience on many sides…

Hiryu: I am talking about if any of the Memphis, Knoxville, or KiT guys from MIdTN didn’t play Tekken for years and just picked up this one, they would still win, that’s what I mean by new school vs old school in a Tekken game.

As far as Street Fighter and frames go, it’s not as important in Street Fighter by any means to know frames as opposed to Tekken. Sure it’s important to know Cody/Bison crouching short, crouching Jab stuff but anything else you don’t really need. It’s very straightforward with a standardized moveset for each character you can look at and follow. It’s a lot harder following a Tekken match unless you know all the characters’ moves.

Execution is important in Tekken. If you can’t do a combo, you’re in for a world of pain. There’s no “but that’s easy” type stuff, you need to learn some standard juggles. Heck, Street Fighter you can get away with 3 hit combos, lol…

I don’t think TTT2 tag system is THAT new since it was implemented originally in TTT. Sure, there are some new variations of what to “do” but the only “old school” feel of SF4 is really just bring able to do special moves and the game being in 2D. It has focus attacks and the jab/short game which was not as important in the older games, as well as the fact it’s the first 16:9 Street Fighter making the spacing a tad different.

I’m not really disagreeing with much here but Tekken is entirely more complicated than SF in terms of how you have to approach it; even “seeing” certain moves and thinking they are unsafe is not always the case; if it was I’d be doing a lot better than I am because I can see everything in Street Fighter. Tekken you have to literally look up a move at times just to find out…

I get rejuggled, lol

GGs to all the memphis guys: Marcus, Bishop, and Mike, and Herb. Playing you guys has really helped me improve my game.

Also GGs to Jason and Coth.

Jason: As far as being grounded goes, it really depends on the distance between you and the opponent. If they are in your face back rolling is a terrible idea due to the fact that most characters have pick up combos from back rolls, but if they are far enough you can do it. Side rolling works pretty well for me, as does sometimes just laying there like SRKFADC said. You can also mix up your get up kicks however, low kicks can be low parried and high kicks are -12 on block. Also, if you think a big low is coming just hit db, your character will automatically get in a crouch block position on wake up. Heck if they are in your face whiffing a bunch of lows while you are laying face up feet forward hit d3 to do a kick while lying down. Its situational, because there are so many wake up options, but I find side rolling being the easiest/safest.

Coth: Stick with it man, I can tell you were trying to concentrate on movement so much so that you barely threw out any moves. As far as your combos and stuff, Bruce has a ton of basic super high damage stuff. You were getting some df2 launchers, but the combos you were doing were far from his best. Try this:

df2,f3,df4~f1,f3, 3,2f~1, 3,2f~2 (i dont know the “proper” notation, but I am sure you’ll figure it out)

Also B2 is his craziest move. Its safe on block, and on counter hit leads to huge damage. d4 is a great low poke, 1,2,d4 is a great string. CD3 and CD2 are killer.

Im sure you saw how I played him and Lei. Its all about spacing and mix ups. Just stick with it.

GGs to Neoblood, keep playing man

I was dying laughing when Raven disappeared and in runs Lars, I was like WTF HE GO

TN Thread: Shoulders, God Fists, and the pursuit of happiness.

I SUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKK at this game. lol

yeah he can tag out of his “haze” stance lol

I really like Raven so far, its just a matter of me needing to learn a decent combo and not just panic when I get a random launcher on you. I KIND of have his jumping knee x2, then f+1, b+1(bound) then TA or another knee, but I never know what to do after a TA, the timing is so weird for me. Lars, I just picked him up today cuz I thought his moves looked really cool and apparently he can do some stupid shit with Raven off of tag assaults. I have no idea what to do with him yet though, I know he can go into his 2 little stances off of a few things but thats about it.

Is kunimitsu and whatever other characters before the ones like Dr.B available yet? Or are they only on PS3 for right now?

Also movement. I cant move in this game for shit, and I feel like when I try to get all fancy with it, the move I want to come out doesnt because im hitting 30 different directions.

Jason, I’m busy at work today so I won’t be able to come at lunch. I’ll be there after work (between jobs) at about 430. I’ll have to leave around 5:15.

The neutral thing helped, looking at lei may be a bad idea.

I need a notebook for this game lol

Ggs yall

Just some quick notes (I’m playing catch up here) :

On TN being free: got to love this new generation, were its cool to call an area “free” for placing top 5…okay sure. We’re did they place…thought so. Good thing Memphis didn’t go than t would have been a TN top 8 but people would hate on that too.

On Mishima’s: they are hard to play, harder to master. Yes they have good tools but you got to know when to us them. It’s cool you can do electrics out the ass but if you can use the to punish at max frames than its pointless. Plus all their good tools are really unsafe. Your rushdown game has to be calculated and relentless.

On Slips winning SBA: Fab has plenty of Capo experience from not only playing Spero Gin but playing Knok aka Little Jin Boy aka Iron Monkey a lot as well. Slips just out played him and mixed him up which is the strength of his characters. I think Fab was over thinking it because he would try to guess what Slips was going to do next instead of hitting him out the relax stance. It was more Fab playing not to lose instead of playing to win.

On people crying for an easy mode: Tekken has never been “noob friendly” so thus why people call it “A Man’s Game!” Take you lumps, learn from them and give out lumps. That’s Tekken in a nutshell. There has been many of people who came on late and caught up. Both Fab and GM got in Tekken late into the DR area and they were scrubs back then, shit takes time. You can’t play a game for 5 min and expect to win EVO, got to put time in on any game. Nobody is hungry nowadays because there’s too many free meals. People rather wear a Justin Wong shirt instead of wanting to beat just…sad. I know everybody don’t want to be on that level and real life is a motha (man do I know this, lol) but its what you put in in the time you got. You can be solid without putting a full work week into a game. Some of the best people I know only play a good 3 hours a week if that. Be brilliant at the basics, stick to a character and learn what they can do in that games system and you’ll be fine.

Rant over

Catching up on tha thread. Back from Season’z Beatingz. Had a ton of fun. Wish more people from TN went to shit. Roomed with Juicebox, hung out with Madkof, Bala and Romance, played tons of KOF and generally had a blasty blast and learned a ton.

Now it’s time to hit Tekken hard and hopefully get decent before/if everyone drops it. Also re-learning Marvrells.

I know you’ve already heard this from Eddie and Chris but… Seriously I was at like, the last 8 out of 10 fight nights. No offense to anyone, and not trying to sound like a dick, but I feel like nobody should be giving me shit about ‘not coming to stuff’. I go to tiny cookeville gatherings where me and the marvel players are practically fucking BEGGING people to come out, to play stuff, to let us teach them games that they ‘say’ they love, and that shit never gets anywhere. I tell every single person that has ever even heard of a fighting game about game galaxy and the whole scene, and I come to every single tournament I possibly can. I probably told 50 people about King of Bling at SB:A. I rarely miss tournaments, and it is always for good reason. I have been going to EVERYTHING since a month after SF4 came out, going through all sorts of BS for the scenes and tournaments. I have literally NEVER just been like " Nah, not feeling like going " to a tournament in Nashville. I still travel, too. Went to Final Round( three years in a row now ), ark, season’s beatings last year and TWICE this year, mwc, mbb, trying to go to Nec this year, etc etc. I come to fight nights all of the time and play games I don’t even care about because other people do, even when my games just get shit on.

Me and Graham try our absolute hardest to get people to play stuff, drive to nashville twice a week for stuff, give people rides, etc… I live 90 minutes away and literally have triple the attendance to shit of most people who live way closer. I mean, if there’s any way I can possibly help this scene more, I’d love to. I always offer my setups to events and offer to help run them. I’m not saying I’m like, doing anything better than anyone, or that people should feel the need come out for stuff if they don’t want to, and yes people definitely have real life shit and work… but there’s tons of people who just DON’T come to stuff and are really flaky, give up easily, aren’t ‘hungry’ in any game, etc. All I’m asking is that people have some genuine love for a game if they expect people to play it. People just drop shit the second they feel they even slightly ‘behind’ in a game or something new comes out. That’s why I’m learning Marvel again. People in Memphis, ark, Alabama, Atlanta, Cookeville… There’s people that fucking love that game, always good turnouts in most places, and people are actually HUNGRY and want to really play it and get better. It’s not just a passing thing for many of them.

Not trying to sound too harsh, because I FULLY fucking understand where you are coming from and what you’re trying to say. I feel the same way, but you are just calling out the wrong people. Those people ( myself included ) are not the problem here.

Jason, Chris and Eddie especially have done tons of shit for this scene. Eddie is the best FGs host in MidTn.

Yeah, I’ve already caught my hell for it. And I went back over it and realize where it comes from. I meant to say one night next week, as in let’s get ready for king of bling and I wrote a week, which sounds like I’m bitching that no one is at fight night. But I digress, I think you guys no Im not one to bitch and “call out” it was just miswritten and blew up into a big fiasco. I made my apologizes and we can just see where it goes from there. But I’ll be at fight night tonight. Sparks and Andrew made it out so it’ll be cool to kick it with them again. And I’ll be asking some questions about Tekken.

Guess who can’t come to fight night? This guy. I will see you unwashed goons next week and I expect someone to explain to me what the hell is going on in Tekken.

Couldn’t make fight night tonight. My cousin died last night, so my dad was away dealing with that and I was at my parents house picking up the slack.

Not coming next week either because I don’t feel like making that drive that many times in a week. See you guys at the tournament!

Totalninja: Sorry about your loss =(

Vandy, thanks for beating up on us…it looks like I’ll be up at Charlie’s Friday night either to get whooped or watch how to whoop others…I think Myles may come later than 10pm…

Codez: Is it going to be ok with all of us new guys coming out? I think Cody, Richard, myself, and Myles were all talking about coming separately randomly…

GGs to Vandy, Myles, Anthony and Graham…

We had a good amount of Tekken today and at least 7-8 people playing…

GGs to the couple of dudes I played last night at fight night. I’m sooo rusty at SF4, and only half bad at Tekken, lol.

Talked with Jason and Richard a little about that Tekken gathering in Smyrna Friday. Might hit that if its cool with the guy(s) hosting. Just need the details.

Jason - shouldn’t be a problem

I’m interested in fight night tonight who is else going to show?

I will be there for Tek

I will be there tonight, trying to play my team. We should get food around 10 as well.
