This episode is one I never expected to happen. I thought this was too sci-fi for what is a very mainstream TV show. Very impressed and loved it.
I barely post in this thread, but had to pop in to say that this episode was fucking awesome, this season keeps getting better. I too, am glad I stuck it out through the beginning of season three.
Desmond is probably my favorite character, his eps are always good. Faraday is becoming interesting as well.
True true true, and don’t forget Frank, he himself seems more interested in the flight people than the mission itself.
Desmond and Locke are gdlk in LOST. Every Kate ep is complete shit, hell every time Kate is on screen it’s shit.
Sunoco, lol thanks for reminding me about the 3 card shit.
Abut the diagram with the circles in Dan’s diary, I thought it resembled the Islands station layout? I should look at it again.
HANSO Black Rock! The Charlie-factor is still interesting as well.
I agree with this statement although I am interested to find out more about that plot twist at the end of the last episode.
Yeah, I would still fuck her too.
I thought this too, but there were 9 circles and only 7 stations. =(
Speaking of Dan, I think I realized why he was introduced to the show, aside from him turning into another interesting character. I think he’s going to be the primary method for the audience to get some answers. Some answers they could, you know, show us. But most answers actually need to be like, “Look, this is what happened and how.” Obviously they can’t just have the creators of the show pop in at the end of the episodes and tell us these things. So Dan will be the voice of explanations in the coming seasons.
I assume. =p
Poor Latello, they killed him already.
Great episode though, this short season is kind of a jumble to me. Have they already covered all of the “Oceanic 6” in the flashforwards? I know Hurley, Sayid, Jack and Kate were covered but I forget the rest, I don’t think Ben’s included and Sawyer and Claire seem to be out as well, Locke of course isn’t going anywhere.
Hurley, Sayid, Jack and Kate were covered.
Michael and Walt might be part of the Oceanic 6. They were on the plane and they did escape the island. We all know Michael will be back this season.
Also not too sure if Aaron counts. Technically he wasn’t a passenger on Oceanic 815.
And Ben doesn’t count as part of the oceanic 6 and he wasn’t on the plane. We know Ben gets off the island… but he needs to maintain a low profile. If he were part of the oceanic 6, his enemies would be able to get to him very easily.
I don’t want to spoil as to who the last two are. I’m not happy about those two either.
Im guessing at Jin and Sun, currently.
i’m watching it again and i think i figured out most of my questions.
Daniel Faraday needs a constant because he was exposed to a lot of radiation. He asked if desmond was exposed to a lot of radiation or electromagnetism.
Daniel Faraday wrote in his journal about desmond before. It’s not a paradox, cause it actually happened. W
hen desmond went to oxford to meet 96 faraday, faraday said something like future faraday sent him to this meeting or something. desmond said it’s not like that and he said maybe u can’t remember? faraday then says “remember? huh.” like shrugging it off like how he can not remember this.
but looking back at the 3 card monte thing, you know his memory is shot. so faraday said that line foreshadowing he would actually infact lose his memories.
i dont think he lost his memories, and i know thats not what you meant. I just think he has a long-term memory problem.
the preview of next week’s show makes me think they are going to expose everyone to high doses of radiation or electromagnetism. maybe the flashbacks to all episodes are in fact what is going on with desmond.
I think they already have been exposed to the electromagnetism. Everyone. Except ‘the others’ (Ben and his group), Jack, Kate, James, Hugo (were with the others far from the hatch during the explosion), Jin, Sayid, Sun (on the boat far away from the explosion), Michael and Walt (also with Ben during explosion).
Odd then, that 4 of the ‘Ocianic 6’ are from this pool of characters. Perhaps the secret they must protect is that there are more survivors on the island who cannot safely leave. Safely getting to the island is probably a bitch too. The guilt they stuggle with is that of being forced to leave the rest of the group behind, due to them being unable to leave without side effects.
Lots of the theories seem to be confused about the idea of having a constant, as well. It seems you need an object or a person that you can see/speak to/touch in BOTH of your disconnected consciousnesses in order to use them as a ‘point of reference’ to help your brain understand what time each consciousness is actually occupying. So, you’d need someone you can contact or see right away that is ALSO in the spot you randomly warped your consciousness to. This should be an easy fix if you only disconnected a few hours (like most cases do, says faraday)… but when you disconnect 8 years… its harder.
Agreed.

the editing at the end of that scene was brilliant
^That was a very heartwarming moment. :bgrin:
The thing bothering me is when Daniel said you can’t actually time travel; only your consciousness can. Like with the rat, only the rat’s mind traveled to the future to learn how to run the maze. Which is why you can’t actually change history, because it’s only your mind that’s there.
Now if only Desmond’s mind was in the past (1996), then his meeting with Daniel wouldn’t have prompted Daniel to write anything in his journal because the meeting wouldn’t have really happened.
Since 2004 Daniel clearly had something written in his journal though, there can only two logical explanations:
A) Daniel was wrong about time travel only being mentally possible, or at least Desmond isn’t bound by that restriction. If Desmond could physically time travel, then the journal writings make sense.
B) If Daniel was right, and only mental time travel is possible, then that means 2004 is the future and 1996 is present day. Desmond couldn’t go back and cause Daniel to write in his journal, because that would be effectively altering history. However, Desmond could mentally go forward and be told to meet Daniel, just like the rat went forward and learned to run a maze. Now if 1996 is present and 2004 is future, this is rather crucial and has two sub-possibilities:
B.1) This would mean nothing we have seen in the show has actually happened yet!
B.2) Or it’s possible that they are telling us two separate stories. Time can be relative. They could be telling us the story of 1996 Desmond as it is present day to him, and the story of 2004 island as it is present day to everybody else in the show. 2004 is the future for Desmond, and 1996 is the past for everybody else.
Then again, there could be the third possibility C) that as always with time-travel stories… the writers can’t possibly hope to cover every loop hole and this is just some sort of unavoidable paradox. =p
You are reading too deep, Tiger. It happened. He can’t change the future, or the past. Its all just assumed to have happened. Its a self containing loop. A paradox.
Faraday has memory issues, and did not remember meeting desmond. He did write a note in his journal about it, obviously, as we saw it at the end of the episode.
