The LOST thread

…Dude he finally has a chance to actually be a Dad to Alex why wouldnt he take it?

Uhh, are some of you mad? Lost (the island) was not purgatory. Only the flash-sideways/alt-world was purgatory. Thats why this explanation sucks shit covered dicks with spicy brown mustard for days.

Keep conveniently remember what works for this non-explanation and keep ignoring all the shit that doesnt make any sense at all, folks. Im half tempted to rewatch all the seasons in context and put together a youtube summary of why none of it actually works with the ending…

Some unanswered Lost questions.

I guess my work was done for me, and quickly. Im impressed. This sums up only about a quarter of the shit they just ignored happened and never tied up. Learn2write Lost writers.

Yes, the island itself was not purgatory. The reason I am mad over the flash sideways as purgatory is because I’ve been watching since the beginning. Others who have and followed the show will remember that one of the big theories in season 1 was that the island was purgatory. This cop out and excuse for a show story angered alot of viewers and the producers of the show came out and said “it isn’t purgatory we promise”. Then suddenly we are given a flash-sideways which actually started as a very cool concept. But then you find out it’s purgatory. That is why it is Lawls worthy.

Quite upsetting after 6 years to find out the last 10 minutes of the show was lazily done and in all honesty really disrespectful towards the fans.

ssoooo Walt and the dog went to hell? Bummer…

Actually, it was a great finale and explanation. It was a great overall series too. Lost isn’t about explaining everything, it’s more about speculation. If every little thing was explained, it would be a different show. Maybe CSI or something.

Haters will hate though.

lol @ vaguely implying black people aren’t human.

Rose is mixed.

lolwut? I didn’t imply that because you want to pulled the race card. Take that shit back to the 90’s.

But who was ISLAND?

series finale of The Prisoner>series finale of Lost
that isn’t sayin much for lost

if island is purgatory…then what about every minor character that appeared at some point that were never on the plane oceanic 815?

like witmore?
or the red head, miles, and scientist guy/witmore’s son?
the others?
blonde chick that was doctor/saywer’s girl?

what about when character’s left the island n never came back,or later on got back?
like ben turning the wheel…
or the “6”?

what about when people died and were never seen again,[on the island]
like the fat dude that was 3rd in command as the others that got shot by sawyer?
if thats purgatory/ the in between of heaven n hell…where did homboy’s soul go?
if dying in purgatory=leaving purgatory to go to heaven or hell…then EVERYBODY shoulda just shot themselves in da head and had been done with it,if escaping purgatory was that simple?!?

lets face it. the show did not tie up any loose ends at all.
the entire show, is now a total nonsensical mess…
that, perhaps, was always intended that way…
but i’d say, this is what really happened-
i’m gonna tell u what really went down
in other words what really happened to this show
since i know, “a lil birdie told me”

after the first season of lost aired,
someone(in the hierarchy at abc) who knew n worked with the two creators of the show, made the mistake of leaking the secret of the show, a.k.a. what the island really was,and leaked that the island was a vieled psychological experement created by a former nazi{hanso},in the form of the Darma initiative.(keep in mind not even the people at lower levels of darma project were aware of this reality)–
–and the point of the darma initiative was a place/project/guise to see how people coped with “mind games” being played out on them while they were totally unaware of said project.

fight 815 crashed, there were the surviving members of the darma project still on the island…darma’s main objective still run by its heads/bosses…when survivors of darma realized they had new unawares"815 survivors" the darma/"the others"
decided to play the “mind games experiment” on them.

if u all remember, the first 2 seasons was about darma+mr. hanso a.k.a. man in the shadows/mr. Oz/dude pullin all the strings/puppetmaster…
after 2nd season, the show totally veered off course away from darma,…because the secret was already outed by dickhead at abc that couldn’t keep his dumb mouth shut!,and creators made the mistake of inventing a new “secret of the island” that had nothin to do with the original and intended ending.

before anyone says somethin like ,"but what a minute, the smoke monster was in the first season! remember when, on the first night after they crash landed, the sound of like a dinosaur in the forest, the trees swayin, when everybody was at the beach n they freaked out because of it?"
that wasn’t the smoke monster.
that was darma doing mind games on their new guinie pigs/815 cast
the smoke monster/jacob/temple…all of that bullshit came after season 2…or at least at the end of season 2
anyway, smoke monster could have been in the original script as mind game darma device

after the leak that took place at abc…the creators of lost freaked out,but continued writing their intended plot line for second season ,but decided to CHANGE the plot/secret of the island{most likely near end of season 2},to keep the show mysterious to its viewers. for the sole purpose of keeping people in confusion/wonderment/on everyone’s tippy toes/edge of seats.
the only reason why they probably kept the original plot line/secret of island=darma is hanso’s nazi-like experiment for most of the second season is because they had already written it, and had too little time between seasons(3 months of summer), to try to invent a whole new secret/ending point.
and the only reason why the show revisited darma later, was to try to explain what happened to darma/what darma was…was to appease any questions about it, to the show’s fans, for closure,…through the ben linus flashbacks.
as for darma time travel shit of 5th season…that was just somethin never originally intended, of course. bullshit made up on the spot.

anyway…

thats what happened to the show. a big wig at abc had a big mouth, leaked the secret, creators of lost freaked out(with good reason), they tried to re-write the main plot line closure/ending/secret of island…that had nothing to do with the original/{good logical explanation} closure to the show…and they came up with this bullshit, no loose ends were tied up, nothing made sense, no closure of original questions, etc, etc…

look at the first 1 and 1/2 seasons…look at the following shit of episodes after 1+1/2 seasons,…and tell me i’m wrong.
i still remember when i found out about the leak and heard it…
it was the monday after the 1st season finale, thats when the secret of lost/hanso{ex nazi} darma experiment=mind games got leaked.

when i heard it, i was like "damn, it{the show} just got ruined for me. now that i know what the big mystery is."
so,…i can’t really blame the creators for derailing their own course of events/explanations.

feels bad man? didnt read all that but what are you gonna do man its a show that tried to be really brainy and when it came time to drop the hammer they took an easy way out like 90% of tv does

Yeah, if I had invested 6 years of my life watching this show from the beginning I would probably be pretty annoyed right now. Fortunately I was able to watch all the disc sets in about a month; Netflix Instant watch FTW!

That unanswered questions video is hilarious and pretty much exposes that Lost was about 90 percent filler.

lol @ vaguely implying that the cast of Living Single play Yu-Gi-Oh!.

Queen Latifah is not amused by your treacherous racism

lol @ treacherous

Treach

O.P.P.

Taken from some where else

Finally got to watch the finale tonight. I haven’t read through the reactions on this thread yet so just want to jot down my observations clean without any bias and then I can go back.

STUFF I LIKED
-Good emotional payoffs, specifically the epiphany scenes, sun & jin’s especially (and sayid’s).
-Good dramatic moments, primarily the drag down fight between jack and flocke on the cliff
-Jack and Kate’s moment together
-The final ending being enough of a twist that I didn’t see it coming

STUFF I DIDNT LIKE
-No big moment for Sawyer, he didn’t really have a lot to do, which was very, very odd. Felt even Lapidus overshadowed him, which is a travesty

-The whole Widmore storyline having no resolution: What? So Charles just died and that was it? Wha?

-Desmond’s role in everything still makes absolutely no sense (in either world really).

-Ben Linus mishandled. Always felt like writers didnt know if they wanted him to be the big bad guy or a sympathetic character. In the end he was just lame, and his final role felt tacked on. No real comeuppance in the episode for all the evil he has perpetrated (sitting outside the church and its implications don’t count).

-The bomb going off at the end of last season never explained. Magic island protected them?

-Bringing a religious afterlife into the equation and having Ben sitting outside the church, which was really heavy-handed and lame (but at the same time, maybe it worked emotionally?)

STUFF I DONT THINK I LIKED BUT NOT 100% SURE
-Yeah that final ending (ie after jack opens the empty coffin)…yeah. So the alt world was definitely not purgatory in the catholic sense, it was more like a waiting station where they would all eventually be reunited. I guess the idea is that everyone died in their own time (ie kate and sawyer lived happily ever after, as did hurley and ben on the island etc) and we are seeing each of them at the same time in an out of time place that just makes it seem like they all “died” at the same time, when they actually didn’t. I think this is cool on one hand, but the biggest problem for me is that it doesn’t really do anything to finish or wrap up the main narrative we have been following for so many years now. Ben reformed and became Hurley’s helper? Kate ended up with Sawyer? Desmond reunited with Penny? Who knows. They didn’t tell us. Maybe this is okay in the end, I dunno. But when you think more about it, I feel like it’s all going to unravel. How are Sun and Jin dead, and yet pregnant? Their “real” little girl was still alive and I guess lived out her life as an orphan in the real world. That doesn’t seem too happy.

STUFF I STILL REALLY DONT LIKE
-Jacob and the MIB. What the fuck was their point? What was the point of their episode two episodes back? None of that shit mattered. The island didn’t even matter in the end, because like I said above, the end was about everyone dying and meeting up again, not about protecting the island, saving the light, or anything. Jacob’s plan didn’t work, MIB’s plan didn’t work, all plans were forgotten, and it was just really lazy writing. It’s like originally the candidate’s purpose was to stop Evil MIB from getting off the island and infecting the world (the whole cork in the wine bottle thing), but later on down the line the writers decided that it was going to end differently and there weren’t going to be a new Jacob and a new MIB (although this was foreshadowed heavily, and just so we’re clear, Ben Linus was obviously not going to become the new MIB, but rather Hurley’s #2 good guy) so they all of a sudden shifted the purpose of the candidate to being the protector of the light. That’s just sloppy lazy writing. You shouldn’t have to retcon a tv show that only has 5 years of continuity.

-At the end of the day, we still don’t know who Flocke was, and why Jack killing him would actually kill whatever this supernatural being actually is. We also still don’t really know why we should have rooted for Jacob over MIB.

STUFF I DON’T MIND THAT THEY DIDN’T ADDRESS/EXPLAIN
-The origin of the island and its magic powers - no big deal in the end, basically a macguffin
-Michael and Walt - they’ve been gone a long time so who cares
-Peoples powers

That’s all I can think of right now. At the end of the day the finale was much better than the past two episodes and I don’t feel cheated or like I wasted my time. Definitely better than BSG finale. I would have liked a little more, and done things a little differently, but that’s life. I enjoyed Lost.

EDIT: Okay, read through all the reactions. I think sigley has everything basically right. Lol at people who think the island was purgatory. And FullMetalJacket dude, just post a link next time, okay?

While watching the last season, I kept thinking that Jacob was the actual bad guy and not the man in black. I guess that plot twist woulda been too obvious.

LOL! When I said some of you were “mad” i meant insane. Mad hatter style.

To Juggernaut and Full Metal’s post from somewhere else - Sure its a very great explanation and ending if you ignore 80% of the content of the show. If you choose to do that, thats your buisness, but it doesnt change the fact that it doesnt work in the context of the entire 6 seasons of the show. Not even on a basic level.

Lost was a mystery show. The island had as much character as any of the human characters on it. In the end, it was shit on and thrown in the garbage just like dozens of other characters the writers built up for no reason and then threw in the trash. Don’t pull the wool over your own eyes. Imagine reading a mystery novel, where they build up 10 different compelling characters. Slowly over the course of this 800 page book, the characters die off and toward the end you are left wondering “who-dun-it?” Then the final chapter is all about the 10 people chilling together in the afterlife and grouping up to go to heaven and you never find out!

Thats a punch in the fucking face, friends. Mystery driven content was Lost’s thing, and the producers and writers can scream through their teeth about it “always having been a character study”… but if that was true, why write all the mystery in? Its not necessary to explore a bunch of lives crossing paths in dire circumstances.

Feel free to have enjoyed lost season 6, much like i enjoy several bad movies and TV shows like Family Matters and Canibal Women in the Avacado Jungle of Death, but know that it wasn’t anywhere near good.

Keits pretty much sums up everything that I’m thinking about.

Where from? Best explanation I’ve read.
