The LOST thread

I regret watching this show and especially the ending. I was never so pissed off over a show in my life. Fuck this show.

I can understand why people didn’t like how the shit-ton of mysteries regarding the island were not explained. I like my stories wrapped up nicely at the end: I’m not a fan of abiguity. That why intitially, I was disappointed.

  • I wanted to find out why Mr. Eko wasn’t killed the first time by the Smoke Monster, but the 2nd time, he was killed. Did Jacob cross him off as a candidate? If so, why? Was he never a candidate, and the Man in Black initially thought he could be of use, then changed his mind? If so, what caused him to change his mind?
  • Walt’s powers. I guess was can assume that he was a candidate and got powers from Jacob, but was that really the case?
  • Miles and Hurley’s powers. As above, is this just Jacob giving them these powers, or is it something more?
  • What the hell is the smoke monster? Is it simply the super-powered soul of The Man in Black? Is it a manifestation of evil?
  • Why exactly would having The Man in Black leave the island doom the planet?
  • And what is this energy source supposed to be?

But when you think about it, not only are these questions not that important, but you can make reasonable hypothesis on their answers (for most of them). The questions that truly matter were anwsered.

What I loved the most about the ending is the closure. As characters got killed throughout the shows run, it pained me on how certain characters died without truly closing the chapter on their lives (Locke in particular). The flash-sideways was a great way to provide that closure. I thought it was pretty clever, although you do have to take some suspension of disbeleaf regarding its setup (of course, thats something you have to do throughout the series).

Overall, I enjoyed watching Lost. Things got a little bumpy in season 3, but I feal that it was time well spent (as for as entertainment goes). One of the best shows I’ve ever watched.

heh… if you say so. I would rather stick a hot poker up my taint than sit through a second of his show.

Seriously, they answered this ages ago. This is like season 3 or 4 bonus material stuff. The only thing bad about it is that it has no bearing on the story they tried to end last night, much like the bulk of seasons 3, 4, and 5.

wtf happened to him again??

lost needed more mr eko

the guy that played eko was offered a guest spot for a nice amount of money but he wanted more so he can eat a **** for not being part of the epicness.

What for real? I hate actors that think of their wallets before the fans, just 5seconds!! :bluu:

I have two opinions I cannot get out of my head:

1 - The series finale was great up until the last 30 minutes. If they had stopped at the 2 hour mark, I would have been happy. The last 10 minutes, and especially the big reveal at the end, were crap, total crap, the writers got lazy as hell.

2 - Which leads to my second point, which is the series finale completely negated the mythological and scientific questions that the show brought up during the previous seasons. Basically what I’m saying is if we had never watched seasons 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, I think watching season 6 by itself would be really satisfying. But, since they brought up so many questions, and cool issues, unresolved and begging to be answered in previous seasons, the way they ended everything by just copping out the way they did was hell of a letdown. It’s like they said, “It’s purgatory all along haha, even though we’ve been saying it’s not, and writing everything up to this point so that it’s all about these mysteries you all want resolved so badly, we’re superstar producers that get paid anyways bitches haha!!!”

For the most part, I agree with this. I only watched the last 5 episodes and the 2 hour summary before the lost finale. The ending was good, but not great. I’m REALLY happy I didn’t commit 6 yrs of my life to this show. If I had, I’d be pretty pissed. Completely agree the writers got lazy as hell as well. Its like they wrote things to intentionally mess with people, then the show got too big and they realized that there’s no way they’d be able to explain it all. That’s just stupid. I feel really bad for the people who spent 6 years coming up with theories only to realize that they don’t add up because the writers could never do the math to begin with.

Also, here’s something else that’s open for discussion:

I claim that while Jack might have designated Hurley the new Jacob, he doesn’t have Jacob’s magic powers. Why?

  1. He didn’t do the ritual properly. He didn’t put his hands over the water and mutter the latin phrases like Jacob and Jacob’s step mom did.
  2. The cork on the island was pulled out. This messed with other things on the island. Not as strong a reason as 1) is, but still worth considering.

Also, the whole afterlife thing doesn’t add up:

  1. First off, how can anyone, let alone a group of castaways, “create a place to find themselves,” especially after they die?
  2. Even if we accept 1), and assume they all got reincarnated, why would they get reincarnated in the exact same bodies?
  3. Even if we accept 2), and assume that this show was all about testing Jack … we still need to contend with the fact that it is Desmond that is going around looking for the castaways. So is Desmond Jack’s guardian angel or something?

I’m so happy I didn’t watch 6 yrs of this show.

Yeah, I was gonna ask what happened to Ecko, Michael, and Walt.

Overall I thought the finale was done well, though I would have preferred if the flash-sideways were of an alternate reality instead of a purgatory thing.

Not doing the ritual properly is debatable, I don’t think it mattered at all, there’s no spells involved. It’s like traditions, you can either follow them to the letter or just do the part thats important, which I think was drinking of the water. Also remember how old Jacob is, she would have taught him latin, Jack and hurly have no use for latin.

Maybe the magic water is still circulating Hurly’s body so he is protected?

Walt wasn’t an integral part to the experience and the connection the others have with each other and the island I think walt just got written off. I don’t think that the time on the island was the highlight of Walt’s life although a memorable one. Micheal was just so hell bent on getting off the island by any means he didn’t grow and when it came to realizing that it was too late.

As it has already been mentioned countless times, before I don’t think the writers were just caught off guard on how much this show would catch on and it became obvious they were pulling a LOT of crap from their asses.
Eventually this show became a series of filler episodes that would make Naruto proud and it seemed they were trying to come up with some kind of clever way to end the show until they just said “fuck it, let’s just do that purgatory thing that people have been speculating about since day one.”

See this is what I hate. We both have different assumptions about the water and the properties of the ritual… and they will never get answered lol. You seem to think the ritual is for show, whereas I think it’s necessary in order to make the water magical. I mean otherwise, anybody could just follow Jack or Jacob and drink the water. We could have have Hurley drink the water and have two protectors. Heck, maybe Ben drank the water too. Again, vague axioms lead to mass confusion.

I’m not sure if Jack still had his powers once Hurly drank from the cup, it’s like passing on the torch he can’t take it back.

Only question I have is, why was Jacob not at the church??

lol @ Richard’s zest for life after growing a grey hair, he should stood up and shouted I WANT TO LIIIIIIIIIVE!

I totally forgot Smocke took all the C4 off the plane, I was expecting it to blow up.

Did u not get it, the ppl that where in the church meant something to each other and jack. Jacob wasn’t part of their journey or struggle he merely just brought them there.

Ok fair enough, maybe Jacob didn’t mean so much to others but I thought after all this Jacob meant something to Jack. Desmond was pretty much doing Jacob’s role in the alternate universe.

None of that was any kind of real…

As far as the finale goes, most people are taking it as it is: the end. They all did eventually die. They’re giving the viewers a chance to see how much they all meant to each other and to see them all interact one last time. I mean, they probably have a LOT of footage from that episode and it will hopefully be released on the DVDs.

Someone posted this on Kotatu, thought it was a very good explaination

**LOL PURGATORY!!!
**
that’s all.
