Ive had the original linl shaft for a few years now and its begun to stick too tight into the shaft where im unable to get it out without opening it up and using pliers to release it. Is there any lubricant that i can use to stop this from happening and if so, which area? (e.g WD 40)
No, don’t use WD-40, WD-40 is NOT a lubricant.
WD 40 is a surface tension breaker and water repellent (The WD stands for water displacing, the 40 was because it was the 40th try to prefect the formula))
It also acts as a degreaser
Okay, any other alternative? It wont come out when i want it to.
I’d have to get you a new base piece to swap out your old one. The new ones are heat treated to avoid the issue that you’re currently seeing. Just shoot me a PP for say $5 and I’ll get a new one sent to you. You can email me for details or just PM if you want.
Are these still available anywhere? I really need two for the cab project I’m working on.
Would really appreciate if Phreakazoid or someone else had some for sale!
Phreak does not sell his own product any more, he sells them though Paradise Arcade and Focus Attack.
Yeah but as far as I know none of those sites ship outside the US
Yes they do.
Depending on where you live outside the US, both places ship internationally as far as I am aware. I know FA does.
On a more Link project note, I’m talking with the fab house now about potentially having them re-finish the new heat treated bases. I’m 100% positive the bead blasting I did to remove discoloration caused that finish, and it’s clear that while grease is a good stop-gap, it’s not a good long term solution for the remaining parts I have.
I’ll keep everyone posted on it.
Worst case scenario (doubt it’ll come to that), I’ll just get a new batch of bases made, somewhat getting to that re-order point anyway. I’d make sure these have the smooth finish they originally had.
@Phreakazoid is there any way I can exchange my heat treated base for one of these re-dos? I pretty much have to keep reapplying the dab every few days and that’s pretty annoying
Yeah sorry about that. When I have this cleared up I’ll just put up an announcement to contact me with an address to just ship you a new one, if you want to ship the current one back that’s cool but I won’t require it.
I also won’t be restocking focus attack when they run out until I clear this up, so anyone looking to grab a Link just hold tight. I technically have some older bases that were never heat treated if it’s like an emergency need or something, but I’d rather just get my current stash of heat treated ones squared away as I don’t have too many of those.
Thanks for the response on this. Good to know it’s an ongoing process.
The project is always evolving, so thanks for supporting/sticking with it.
The heat treatment was a new-try thing, I just was stupid and asked them to bead blast without first finding what it’d do to the finish.
On the phone this morning with a bunch of different metal finishing companies to see about re-finishing the Link bases. Crossing fingers one of these places pans out and it’s not too expensive. The original machine shop actually might be able to handle it, which would be so damn cool.
edit:
One was actually a spot that does hand finishing, so if I ever need something larger and more refined polished I know where to go, they just aren’t right for this application lol
Yessir. I brought some extra JLF bases.
I didn’t touch the LS-32 bases at all. Is yours getting stuck?
Lol, oh really I didn’t even notice that the LS-32 version was not treated and I assumed it was because it looks the same to me. I got both of mine when focus attack last restocked everything. Sad to admit, I don’t use the LS-32 link because it didn’t look right with the stick I placed it in, so I just kept it stored.
No matter, I’ll just bring my jlf one for exchange then. How will I find you, do you have a booth at EVO?
I’ll be at the MCZ booth all weekend
So… I need some help.
My Link Release Shaft has been stuck for awhile now and after tinkering around alot and doing a ton of research, I think I’ve finally understood what’s wrong with it.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think the base somehow got stuck upside down inside the shaft?! o.O I’m in Australia, btw.
EDIT 1: Nevermind. That wasn’t it at all. Apparently I’m blind as well as desperate. If anyone can help shed some light on this, it’d really help alot. Cheers.
EDIT 2: Sounds like this is what has happened to me.

So I bought a new JLF Link from you at Evo, to replace my year old one that has been constantly getting stuck, and it’s already getting stuck… seriously man what gives.
