The Link: The Quick-Disconnect JLF Shaft!

I’m not sure. I play like this, though my index and middle tend to come a little closer to the balltop than that.
I can see how it might make it come loose though, since with strong motions, you might catch the collar.

@Jochen; I would also be interested in this EU shipment.

It’s looking like pretty soon. Just wanted to get some stuff straight before moving forward. I’ll keep people posted but it won’t be long.

In truth, I don’t know for certain I think it may depend heavily on the player. I’m sure a lot of people who are using them play like that and have no problem, but as francys mentioned strong motions of the middle finger may cause unwanted behavior. I actually tried this position on my own (don’t normally play like that), and it took effort to make that happen, as the metal is smooth and somewhat slippery your finger is more than likely going to roll over the top of it than truly grip the groove enough to engage the collar.

The performance under that condition may improve with future batches as I improve the design though, so even if it’s somewhat of an issue now it won’t continue to be that way.

Forgot to tell you, I got the link on. It wobbles a little when I lightly ever so gently move it just a little to the right or left. Other than that, it works pretty well.

Ok would you like to pm me where I should send it to that does seem to be the problem. But also I do not play like that though I have a bat top so I hold the bat not the “link” mechanism.

Got my links today, will test them out soon enough

The dead zone issue is noted and will be fixed. For now I have to ask for people to adjust unless I can come up with something to remove that, like basically a shim to go between the pivot and the base piece’s shaft.

Don’t worry about sending it back, just PM me with your addy and I’ll get you a new unit for comparison. Again, working on improving this design on the fly so I’m asking folks to bear with for a little bit :p.

Please do, let me know how they work out for you.

So ive been playing with mine for a few days now without the mini plexi dustcover and it doesnt pop out anymore, ive found out though that when i do 720s i tend to pull up on my bat top a little bit and it pops out when doing that but i guess thats only a bad habit that i need to get rid of.

Also i was wondering if you will be selling only the top part later on as i would like to have another one with a balltop.

@phreak
I’m assuming when you get a new batch that doesn’t have the “wobble” issue (‘dead zone’ in post above) you will note that? Like patch notes sort of…hahaha. Just wondering because I’ll be placing an order for some from that batch. Just wanted to make sure it was the “fixed” one. Not that I’m complaining at all about the current version.

Whoo. Just got my Link shaft today.

Sadly, I get all my parcels mailed to the office here, so I won’t be able to try it out until I get home late tonight… after work… and after night classes… Can’t wait.

So I assembled the two parts and tried pulling them apart; so far, it’s taken QUITE a bit of effort; way more than I’d ever exert on the stick during regular gameplay, so I’m really not worried about that. However, I did notice it doesn’t take very much vertical pull on the collar to disengage the lock on the two parts, though: less than 0.5mm of vertical pull on the collar will pop the top off with ease.

Thanks for the feedback on that, I’ll be making a bullet point in the FAQ about custom plexi dust covers as something to keep in mind. Yes, whenever I get caught up on things, eventually the customer will be able to buy the top and bottom pieces separately for a mix and match type of deal, as well as fill gaps so they can have 2 tops and 1 bottom for easy swap, etc.

Yeah I will make note of the changes when the base pieces are updated. Unfortunately it won’t be for a little while, I have to go through my current batch in order to have that happen so there’s no ETA on it, I still have quite a few of the current base pieces to go through. In the mean time I’ll try and think of a hotfix for the current ones if it is something that really is a bug for you. I just need to get some time to do that.

Let me know how it it plays while you’ve got everything installed, collar throw distance may change/increase as this project progresses.

like they said before, it really doesn’t take much force to take off the collar
just lifting it on its own inside a TE will lift the collar off from what i’ve tested

also from what it seems, is it normal that the collar doesn’t go all the way down when in position?

I was wondering about that too at first, enough to put together a picture.

But then I looked at the original post on page 1, and Phreakazoid’s prototype pictures were like that too. So I’m assuming it’s normal.

Yes, that’s normal operation for now. The collar won’t go “all” the way down, it will stop a mm or two short. It shouldn’t ever come off while playing though. Future iterations will more than likely change that and it will go down further… for now it should operate just fine even though it doesn’t not.

Thanks for the diagram actually, I’ll probably pop that in the OP if you don’t mind so that I can alleviate future questions about the resting state of the collar.

@ mr.mortified - I see you still have the inner dust-washer, the one below the control panel. Remove that, it will eliminate unwanted behavior.

Feel free to take.

Cool, wasn’t my TE anyways since that was my friend’s in the university. Just needed something to test the stuff on

Done. Much appreciated sir.

Ok, so I popped in my Link and gave it a quick test-run.

My notes:

  • I’m also experiencing that “enhanced” dead zone that everyone else is seeing/feeling; honestly, it’s there, but it’s really not a big deal to me. I have some LS-55 springs coming in the mail from LizardLick sometime, so I’ll probably give it a try with those and see how it feels.
  • I use bat-tops mainly, and with the way I hold the stick, my hand/fingers are never in contact with the shaft anyways, so there’s no worry about accidentally shifting the collar.
  • Many 360s and 720s and dragon punches and super flash kicks later, and the top part has not popped off accidentally yet.
  • My Tek-Innovations arrow dust-washer will probably need to be countersunk slightly; I haven’t had the top part of the Link pop off yet, but the dust-washer is being lifted slightly due to the lever action of the stick moving, instead of just sliding around. It’s not present (or maybe just less prominent) with a stock Sanwa dust-washer.
  • My JLF is mounted at the correct height (24mm between the bottom of the ball-top to the play-surface, ie, the plexiglass surface), and the lower half of the Link shaft sticks out by about 1mm from the hole when the top half is removed.

Still, very satsified with the performance. Major props to you, Preak.
Makes me wish I preordered 2 instead of just 1.

So I went ahead and got me one of kasucodes dustcovers and ive been using it for a couple of days, and it hasnt popped out at all, but im still having a bit of trouble putting it back on because of the bat top, its kinda hard to pull on the collar.
Does anyone know where i can find an extender for the shaft because ive had zero luck finding one.

Got my replacement link yesterday. I will most likely install it tonight and will update on any differences from the previous one.

Glad to hear it, Kasucode’s dust washers are a perfect match, he had the forethought to counter-sink them to avoid binding and it just so happens to play really really well with the Link.
