The Link: The Quick-Disconnect JLF Shaft!

Gah - posted earlier, but sadly something was up with SRK.

Recieved my Link about a week ago, but hadn’t done anything with it…

So, tonight, I got my act together and put it in the stick. The total time for install? 5 mins, which included going upstairs to grab the stick and screwdriver. It really couldn’t have been easier. The build quality is fantastic - it feels pleasantly weighty, and is completed to the highest quality. No rough edges, no flash, all in all; finished.

Turned it on and headed in to training mode, throwing moves out as quickly as possible, and as hard as possible. The link took it all, and no budging. The top piece is a hair heavier than the normal stick, but it’s not off-putting at all - if anything, it’s slightly better for me. If I pick the stick up by the top piece, it does come apart, but about the only time that’s going to happen is if the stick falls off my lap, which is pretty much never.

Clayton - you’ve done a bang up job. Everyone else - why haven’t you bought this yet?

So I installed the new Link yesterday and it is soooo much better. Much stronger “link” no inadvertent disconnects. Thanks Phreak

Thanks for the kind words, I used a local shop to make these to make sure that the build quality would be very high, it’s nice to know that’s appreciated :).

As for this part:
Everyone else - why haven’t you bought this yet?

That’s mostly my fault atm, wanted to get documentation and things situated before moving forward while taking in all possible feedback from early adopters to improve the design. Currently putting together a quick insert to put in the baggie to give the bullet point notices for people when installing (remove inner dust washer, watch for custom plexi ones, etc.).

They’re coming really soon though, anyone itching to get one just hang tight it won’t be long… I’d guess in the next week or two is what it’s looking like.

Great to hear it. Yeah some under-performing ones seem to have gotten into the mix, I apologize about that. Tell your friends!

Hey Phreak, I’m having a weird issue with mine. It was fine for about a week, now every time i move the stick in the down direction, theres this slight click and it feels as if its hung up on something before it goes all the way down. The direction still comes out properly but it feels weird.

I found out that if i push down on the stick (as in the Z axis, like if I were pushing L3 on a ps3 controller) and then push the down direction at the same time then the click doesn’t happen.

Any ideas?

Ah. That would be useful. I’ve not actually removed the internal dust-washer - I just carefully plonk it in place and it works. That’s probably why I can’t pick up the whole thing by the stick itself.

How important do you think removing that dust washer is?

Could be a washer conflict?

I don’t really have any outright ideas on what would be causing that without taking a look myself. You’ll have to do some digging to isolate the issue. It could be a number of things causing that. Take the top panel off and view the action from the under-side at the point of the “click” you’re seeing, to find if you can actually see what’s causing it. It could just be a slightly stuck microswitch or something so perhaps remove the gate and switch assembly to see if you find the click still there.

Wish I had more ideas on that, but it could boil down to just needing a bit of lubrication on your assembly. Let me know what you find though.

On a scale of 1-10, I’d put it at an 8 or 9 just because it’s the safe thing to do to avoid accidental pop outs. It also makes it easier to put the top in place too since you won’t have to align the two dustwashers before getting it to sit in place right.

Removing the inner dust washer won’t really change the ability to pick up the entire stick, that’s still a “not recommended” thing at the moment. It will just alleviate any chance of it popping off while playing.

So I tried the link in another JLF I had laying around and it didn’t have the problem. I think it might be a lubrication problem on the white bushing that’s in the top part. When I first installed the Link that part fell out and i put it in backwards in trouble shooting I may have messed it up or just rubbed off the lube. if this one goes wrong in a week I’ll look for a deeper issue.

Hey

bulk order is confirmed. I set up a pre-order page on my shop http://www.arcadeforge.de soon.

I was at a release tourney for UMvC3 and unhooked my Link and had the entire Game Stop gasp out of amazement! LOL XD Thanks Phreak for helping me have pure StiqEnvy!!

Oh shit, dog, your product just got an in-store demo.

So I bought 3 Links back at Season’s Beatings since my friend in Taiwan wanted them. I was only back there a day so I couldn’t really watch help him try and set up it. The moment I left his place, he called me saying that it didn’t fit,

I showed him this photo and he mentioned that this was the exact problem he had. I told him that it was normal and went on with life.

He just posted on my facebook with these photos

He said that he sanded down the sloped edge completely and it seems to be working just fine. He also mentioned that he probably doesn’t need to sand down the other one as much as he did for this one

Must be one of those weeks, lol. I got a notice on twitter about this blurb that happened during a tourney in the UK:

Glad you’re enjoying it destiny, I’m working on bringing them to everyone atm it’s just taking a little time.

Hmmm I see. Well he basically did manually what I’m attempting to do in my current tweaking. Although obviously possible I wouldn’t recommend doing that, if he had sanded further on accident there’s a worse problem, which is a loose connection. I’m happy to see the initiative on that one though :stuck_out_tongue:

Some of the collars sit down further than others atm, I’m trying to make that consistent and strong across all of the newly produced ones.

Hi. Did you sent all pre-orders? I’m wondering that because I didn’t get an e-mail notifying me, so I have no idea, and I’m aware shipments to Brazil do tend to take abnormally long (one month is a good case - it can just as easily take two).

Yessir I definitely did. As a quick check I just looked yours up, I’m surprised you didn’t get an email but I can PM you the tracking. Currently it just shows that it was processed at the local facility on Nov. 1st, and because it’s international it won’t update any further than that.

I can’t believe the shipping takes so long to Brazil, that’s nuts. It is definitely on the way though.

New video for you since no one’s stepped up to the plate!

A little longer because I’m a klutz haha

I sincerely need to get one of the new builds for myself to test out. I’ve bought one for my other half for Christmas (shhhh! D8<) so I don’t intend to dismantle and fiddle with his XD. Though he does like fuelling my modding drive, so he’d probably encourage it anyway.

It does look a little different to the first build that I bought at Evo. (This could be down to the fact it’s shiny and mine’s a little duller from sweat and all that jazz XD)

Awesome, thank you. I’ll pop it up in the OP.

The way you install them is wayyyy different than I do it, I must do it the lazy way or something because I don’t even remove the gate.

Well the good news is that the current ones FA has underwent my own personal brand of testing (I hand checked and built each one personally), and I was hella critical about the adjoining strength so they’re all good to go in that regard.

Yours will look a little different, for two reasons:

  1. The base piece is not hollow, only the top one
  2. They were all done by hand, these are finished in shop and are very clean looking, not dull as yours may be.

While on the subject, I’m finally getting the rest from the machine shop (the design was so awesome it broke their machine apparently), and my partner and I are going to be doing some manual editing of the units that are remaining, so if we do it in time any new ones I send out (including a restock to FA) you will be able to see a difference that I’ll point out. The dead zone some people have mentioned will not be taken care of until I place an entire new order and start the process all over again… just a lot smoother this time around :stuck_out_tongue:

…Broke the machine? Damn XD

I would hope the dead zone feels like the old ones. I love the dead zone on my beta unit, it’s gotten to a point that I can’t do KOF combos on a standard stick anymore laughs It could be the spring doing that though (LS32 spring <3).
I’ll end up getting a try of it anyway since when playing online, we use his stick because he hates the tightness of my one (Yah yah snicker at it, snicker at it!)

And those changes definitely explain it. I’ll be buying another one…or three at some point anyway haha, they’re way too convenient for travel.

I do that because i figure for first timers it would be easier to get to the e-clip and have more room to push down the actuator without the gate. I should make a “pro” video haha
