Has anyone tried installing this on cases with smaller clearances, like with the Namco stick? Would be cool to make it even more portable!
as I mentioned in the thread before powder coating can change the color of the link without restricting movement by masking that area
It can also be used to a apply strong coat adjusted accordingly that will fix the issue of it being wobbly and fix it so it harder to slide off
Just installed my unit without a hitch. I am majorly impressed with the quality, especially for a first major run. I’m also experiencing the “enhanced dead zone” people have mentioned, but to me there’s not much of a difference in overall feel. I probably wouldn’t use this guy for shoot-em-ups, but then again that’s what I have my LS-32 for.
Well that might be an option, I’m looking for more of an off the shelf thing so general users looking to increase performance aren’t stuck though. Purplearms has mentioned that thin shrink wrap might be the ticket to making the pivot bushing more snug on the base shaft piece, so I’m going to test that myself tonight. Any that shrink to 1/4" or smaller when shrunk should do fine I’d imagine. When thinking about it, if this works, this might be something to do with a stock JLF shaft anyway if people want to remove some of the dead zone that one has too.
Thanks for the kind words, I’m glad you like it.
Here’s my video install on an HRAP
I think I have a decent solution for the hole plug issue. how about a modified hole plug with a pull ring attached to it? one that will lay down flat on the hole plug keeping the with the theme of being flat and fitting where normal sticks wouldn’t and the hole plug will protect the stick from any scratches the pull ring might cause. And obviously the added benefit of being able to use the pull ring to pull the plug out. You could simply cut a hole in the hole plug and used a nut or something on the underside to keep the plug attached. Just a thought but it seems like a cheap and permanent solution.
EDIT: google image results pic for a kind of basic design
a mixture between this
and this

with the thread for the nut on the back but shallow enough to not interfere with the base of the jlf underneath.
Or maybe like this

@Vicko: you play IIDX, I love that game
Good to see happy players with happy products. I’m still happy with mine!
after an hour or two of play i quickly found out how much pressure i apply to the joystick as i was popping it off when holding down back… and thats pretty much it. i can pull it straight up no problem heh. i just need to watch my strength in the corners lol.
Got one of these a couple days ago. Been using it for roughly 8 hours now. Solid man, really solid. I love this thing. Installation was perfect. Everything fit right. The thickness of the joint area scared me at first but I happened to have a wide enough dust guard laying around that it wasn’t an issue. It hasn’t pulled off or malfunctioned yet. No inadvertent disconnects. Extra backpack space on the way to work is huge for me.
The “throw” definitely feels longer… sort of like when you have a JLF mounted really shallow on a thin wood style case…but not by much at all. Not enough to make a difference for more than 10 minutes… and only if you are a player that “minimizes” motions a bit.
At any rate, good job Phreak! I want to buy more things from you now… and I have no idea how you got first run machining this tight.
I got my link installed but it doesn’t seem to lock properly. during my game play it disconnects with very little force. The spring part of the upper shaft doesn’t lock all the way down onto “the link” of the lower part. I will try to post a picture later once I get home.

I will admit that one challenge to get around is making sure you don’t touch the collar while playing. It might take some time for wine glass users, let me know how the continuing use works out for you.
I’m very glad you’re liking it, the extra backpack space is definitely nice though, isn’t it? I love being able to pack my PS2 and TE in the same bag without weird tetris style of aligning things together. OK so it’s a tad heavy then, but it’s nice and compact, lol.
The machine shop I’m working with does a great job, I’m very glad I found them… and that they got back to me in the first place. Most machine shops wouldn’t even call back because I’m small time. Now… I’ll go to these guys for every future machine job.
The collar won’t go “all the way down” so-to-speak, it will stop a few mm up from the bottom, which is normal behavior (take a peek at the OP’s pictures and compare to yours). Have you found it goes together and requires some determined force when it’s out of the stick? Second question is if you’re installing into a TE and if you’ve removed the lower dust washer yet if you are.
I apologize for the delay in updating the first post/site with that tidbit of information, I’m sure it will trip some folks up but it’s definitely necessary. If you don’t remove the lower dust washer, it can get stuck underneath the joint and cause added force when moving the stick around… which basically pops it off with no effort because it’s literally leveraging it off. So definitely remove it.
Mine looks like beast’s pics. [S]Now when you say first dust washer, do you mean the one that is usually right under the white piece on the inside of the stick(i.e. the piece that the spring sits onto of)?[/S]
[S]And I’ll do a QCF/QCB and my link will pop right out.[/S]
EDIT: Saw video in the OP, I’ll fix it this weekend, and I’m installing in a Qanba Q4RAF, the black one.
Yah thats indicative of the secondary (inner) dust waser. Didn’t realize Qanbas had that too. Ill make a bullet point list in the OP for future reference
Just installed mine, it was pretty easy.
I do have a little problem putting the top back in because im using a bat top, but other than that im very pleased.
Will see how it performs after a while but so far it is just what I expected =D
Awesome. Very simple to install once you get the stick open.
Will be posting a vid showing the final touches to my stick which looks mint due to The Link.
I can confirm that it works for the TvC stick for the Wii, the Super Street Fighter 4 S Edition Fightstick and will be testing on a modded Tekken 6 stick this weekend.
Still haven’t received my Link yet, but I’m already preparing myself with a custom plug/cover:
(Ignore the hole in the middle, that’ll be filled in)

Next to a Seimitsu PS-14-GN White

Still need a bit of patching up and smoothing out. Gonna stick a magnet underneath, and voila! Dummy-button-plug-cover!
Depending on how it turns out, I might see if I can get about casting it…
Found out what was causing my link to pop… it was actually my mini plexi dust washer. doing QCF and circle motions the dust washer would catch the link ever so slightly causing it to disengage and pop. i currently dont have a dust washer on there now and jam on it like i dont have a care in the world and takes a beating. I can use it how i used my stock JLF. just got to order me a clear dust cover set from MCZ now …
