The Ling Xiaoyu Partner Thread

I am finding success with Xiaoyu & Steve. I feel like they work together very well without one being clearly stronger (Chun-Li & Xiaoyu = Xiaoyu is just a cheerleader honestly). Xiao protects the China skies and pesters opponents with flash and Steve is ever ready on the mat to frame trap them with pokes. So funny to see so many of Steve’s jabs hit after the opponent has been demoralized by Xiao. Combo damage also feels good between them with Steve’s flicker low jab bouncing high enough to switch into Xiao for her d+HK loop and Xiaoyu’s AOP qcf+K knocking them high so Steve can do his worse (+500 combo damage with simply a bar to switch between them).

They do share weaknesses against clearly better characters which is to be expected from both characters being around the same tier. The burden lays on the player to get them inside and also keep a smart distance against grapplers. However, at least among the Tekken cast, I feel like Xiao & Steve are BFF’s as neither is a tag-along, they help each other. I can run either character as point or anchor and I feel like that is important in this game.

What exactly is this HK loop? Is this Xiao’s breakdance I’ve been seeing in some threads here? If so, how do you do it…

:df::hk: :df::3p: :df:, repeat
Two consecutive down/backs or down/forwards cancel stance. So you buffer your first diagonal down into your normal attack, hold the direction, 3p or 3k to go into stance and at a specific timing you press the diagonal down again to cancel. It is very rhythm based, so it will be difficult at first. Once you get it, it is not so hard to do.

All I know is once that DLC comes out I’ll have Xiaoyu with Lei. All those stances!

I’m looking forward to the Xiaoyu / Lei team as well! I played with the Xiaoyu / Chun-Li team this weekend and I believe It’s a good team. I used the one switch cancel combo for Chun-Li that’s listed here and it worked out great. I’m going to try out team Jin / Xiaoyu after work. If you have a practicle switch canceling combo using Jin, please post. Jin’s c.MP so strong! :slight_smile:

After Phoneix Talon you can cross cancel into Jin with c.MP, c.HP xx SS+MP(Right Roundhouse Punch). Also during Turn of Fortune you can cross cancel into Jin’s Kazama Style 5 hit combo(LP, LK, MP, LP, MK).

My partner for Xiaoyu is Juri. I guess the reasons was because I was just fooling around on the first day, but then I realized that these two can benefit each other.
What do people think of that team?

Just throwing this out there, but it seems like the most popular partners for Xiaoyu are Juri, Ibuki, and Chun. What is up with asian females sticking together lol? Asuka is also pretty popular too so we could add her to that list lmao :slight_smile:

Also, to add to a nice combo that is really flashy, here is a Chun/Xiaoyu combo I’ve been practicing. It doesn’t do much damage, but it is a time waster if you need that little bit of time to hold out and it uses all 3 bars. It is a fun combo to get in my opinion:

I’m playing Xiao/Juri (or Juri/Xiao) now. They work great together.

I’m trying out Kuma lol. I was discouraged with option.iv’s post, but I’m gonna keep going with him, so I can finally have Teams Kuma(Kuma/Xiaoyu) and Oso (Poison/King). I hope it will be Truly Outrageous and Beautifully Bold.

I have actually versed at least 4 different Xiaoyu/Juri teams online. I’ve only faced 5 Xiaoyus so far (the last one was with Ibuki) and it seems like her most popular partner is Juri. They are good together.

Kuma is difficult to learn but he is rare online so tricking people isn’t hard since they don’t know what to expect.

One good tactic I know for Kuma is in his stance where he is on all fours, his :lp: comes out very fast and can really easily hit people on wake up. However, once they learn that trick, you have to watch out for them spamming launcher on wake up since that gets past low hits.

Couldn’t you also fuck up with their timing or even find that sweet spot where you’re safe before the launcher’s active frames come out?

And for my earlier post, that dance at the end makes the battle all worth while /Lili.

This. lmao That dance is great, and the best part is it never ends xP Also, when I went up again the Kuma with Xiaoyu, I was able to mash out my launcher and hit him on wakeup so you’d have to test that. Can you block in that stance with him?

No you cannot. Like Xiaoyu’s stance you can’t block so you’d have to his non-stance normals as meaties.

There hasn’t been any new talk of partners for Xiaoyu lately?

I’m using Xiaoyu/Lili. I don’t know any tag in combos yet though.

I’m running Xiaoyu/Lili as well. This is my main combo. Can be modified depending on your meter and who you want in.

Starting with Lili:
(Starter) cr.MP, cr.MK xx Launcher (Xiaoyu), Sweep Loop x3, Phoenix Talon xx Switch Cancel (Lili), nj.HK, st.HP, cr.HP xx LK Sunflower Lance
^This is corner only, for mid-screen, after Phoenix Talon, you can do j.HK, cr.HP xx LK Sunflower Lance. Does around 510 damage for the corner combo, 490ish for mid-screen. 1 meter, gains about half a meter, IIRC.

For extra meter with Xiaoyu, you can do the full 6 reps of the Sweep Loop, switch cancel on the 6th one, and do cr.HP xx HP Dendrobium, f.MK~HP as an ender with Lili. It’s also easier, but it does less damage.
