From the sounds of it Egoraptor is pretty ironic about his ‘A game shouldn’t need tutorials to teach you how to play the game’ considering the amount of evidence in his gameplay that seems to prove the opposite.

Yeah I remember watching that. That’s another great example. There’s a meter at the top of the screen that says “Turbo” as a gamer I’m thinking “hey, what button lets me use that stuff?” This is why it’s hard for me to buy into some of his criticisms.
I never said you had to play the whole thing to decide you didn’t like it, in fact I specifically said the opposite. What i said was your opinion on the whole product is hard to take seriously because you didn’t experience it. It’s like someone trying to tell me about a movie they only saw 5 minutes of. You’re welcome to not like the 5 minutes you saw and write off the rest of the movie because of it, but don’t be surprised when no one gives a fuck about what you have to say about it because you walked out in the first 5 minutes.
This is a really simple concept to grasp Specs, you’re a smart man, come on now.
If the first five minutes of something are so vile and wretched that it made me stop, fuck that thing. Maybe minute 6 onward is the awesomest thing in the world, but I doubt that, because if so, why the hell didn’t it start off that way?
I’m not sure why an opinion of “nothing about Skyward Sword strikes me as fun or worthwhile so I’m not going to play it” isn’t worth taking seriously, especially if it’s backed up with either “what I played of it turned me off” (very valid, because that gives you a handle on the controls and whether or not you’ll jive with them) or “what I’ve seen of it turned me off” (perhaps less valid). Or both.
Because you don’t actually know, that’s why. Again, you’re welcome to write something off early because it wasn’t for you, but you really don’t know what the rest of it is like so you’re in no position to comment on anything past what you have experienced.
This sort of defense – and I say this with no venom attached – doesn’t do much for me because it’s too dismissive and lacking real reasons for why the thing in question might be worth another look. Like if I wanted to dismiss, I dunno, Mighty No. 9 because I’m sick of Megaman and it looks like Megaman (disclaimer: I’m totally not sick of Megaman), the best way to bring me back around is to show me the dash/absorption mechanic and the overall polished look and feel that’s a far cry from Capcom’s lolretro MM9 and 10; a good way to turn me off is to tell me that I haven’t played it so what do I know.

The MN9 example could be a good example of what i mean tho, say you don’t get the dash till level 2, but you only played lvl 1 and said “Yup not for me, games shit, offers nothing new” well can you see why no one should bother with taking your opinion about anything past the first lvl seriously? Your opinion of lvl 1, spot on sure, but anything after that doesn’t matter cuz you don’t know.
