Get me one of those Zelda 3DS’ and I’ll trade you the limited “fucking-badass” edition extra large Street Fighter/Street Fighter 2 Ultimate Udon hardcover books.
Anyway…
Spoiler
Holy shit I am loving Skyward Sword. Feels like a perfect mix of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, but with far better controls/mechanics. The music is just perfect for the mood of the story so far. Kondo is a damn genius.
Kondo supervised mostly this time around for Skyward Sword. He only made 1 track for this game. Most of the props for the soundtrack probably belong to Mahito Yokota and the new blood that helped with Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2.
Gaf has a Zelda Art thread that has some amazing pieces of fanart that gets posted in it. I’d reccommend checking it out if you’re interested.
^ I’m assuming it leaked over the internet and people are just pirating or they got a review copy like one of the people here at my school who always games at the student union (I opted not to watch him play it). Haven’t really heard any cases of stores breaking street date yet though.
I’d say I was surprised by that score from Gamespot…but I’m really not lol. Lemme read this so I can see if they actually have any valid issues with it or if they’re just being dumb.
Edit: Holy crap I can’t even find when that review was posted in the SS gaf thread…there’s been some many replies. I want to be entertained dammit!
Edit2: GS reeeeeeally didn’t like the controls…it’s also got some spoilers here and there…
The only time I’ve seen someone piss off Nintendo by leaking a game getting sued for it is when the guy who leaked NSMB Wii posted his receipt which had his name on it, the address of the store that broke street date and the teller who helped him. So yeah, he got sued because he was an idiot. I’m still picking up the bundle on Sunday, because Nintendo deserves my money since they’re one of the only companies who doesn’t overuse their franchises. The closest we’re coming to Nintendo oversaturating the market with their titles is the multitude of first-party games they’re releasing for the 3DS. Super Mario 3D land just came out, Mario Kart next month, Luigi’s Mansion 2 and Paper Mario in the first half of next year. And the new Zelda game they’re developing for 3DS, but we probably won’t see that for a year or two. Not to mention OoT 3D and Starfox 3D, even though they’re remakes they’re still damn good games and the 3D effect in Starfox is really good.
There’s a lot of cool stuff in there but WTF is with people quoting images OVER AND OVER AND OVER. Half that thread is people just quoting images. It’s a real pain in the fucking ass to wade through.
Anyone who has played this game how is the soundtrack? Easily one of my favorite parts about zelda games is how epic the music is and going back to listen to it reminding you of all the good times.
I am so excited now… I literally forgot this was coming out so soon and realized the other day it was a week away. My Wii has literally been collecting dust as this is the only game I have been excited for for 2 years or so.
There isn’t a much better gaming experience for me than the first playthrough of a console Zelda. You get that addictive rush and its hard to put down the controller. This feeling only happens once ever 3-4 years too. The worst part is the end… its like you want to get there but you dont want to at the same time because then you realize its over :(.
[details=Spoiler]I’m only a little over an hour in, but there has already been two moments where the music grabbed my attention and pulled it in completely. Such beautiful and memorable melodies. One of them also had percussion. I closed my eyes and just sat there feeling the song, and even shed a tear. This will probably be my favorite Zelda song yet.
Mind you, I’m quite bias as I have a horrid obsession with music in general and have been adoring Zelda music since the first game came out.
Other than that, I felt the music in Wind Waker was strongly appropriate for the environments you’re in. More so than Twilight Princess. Skyward Sword is a lot like Wind Waker in that sense. But not more so, yet.[/details]
For real. I always get a little sad and lonely when I finish a Zelda for the first time. Like I lost a friend or something. Same with better books.
I’m assuming that SRK is feeling sluggish because of the amount of people here for UMVC3…man I feel like I’m wading through a swamp right now. Anywho…there are quite a lot of perfect/near perfect scores out there. It’s probably just going to depend on everybody’s own experience with it. Won’t find out what the majority opinion will be until Sunday.
The thing that irks me is the inconsistencies between reviews. On one end, people are praising the controls, and at the other end, people are saying that the controls are broken. One end says this Zelda sets a bold new direction for the series, the other end says it fell into the same traps as previous Zeldas. Some reviewers even contradict themselves on some points (the EGM review) and straight up flip-flop (Game Trailers). Some people had no business reviewing the game (the guy who did Giant Bomb’s review…Gerstmann should’ve done it). I’m playing SS regardless because I’m completely hype for it, but I dislike the inconsistencies and double standards various sites are pulling.
Regarding controls and inconsistency in reviews concerning them…
[details=Spoiler]Having played Twilight Princess again a few months before Skyward Sword, I can say that trying to play Skyward Sword as if it were Twilight Princess will result in frustration. The controls are different. I bet the people whining about the controls are just not very intuitive gamers, and have difficult transitioning. For some reason, it’s common for sites to make incredibly stupid decisions on who reviews what. For example, people who suck at fighters and have little understanding of them, people who suck at games in general (I read somewhere that the first race of SS can’t be beaten, but I beat that shit first try no effort), or people who can’t see stereoscopic 3D (Joystiq reviewing the 3DS).
In any case, it’s not even worth considering really. Reviews usually come down to opinion or some criteria that means little, and have nothing to do with the actual gaming experience. Reviews can be fun, but they’re ultimately trivial. That’s how I see it anyway. Whatever.[/details]
