The Legend of Zelda thread - Ganon's bodyshop will be open for business on Nov. 20th

I know…I posted it in the Wii thread. Thanks though.

Man, what the fuck is up with IGN and their article titles? I never click through and read anything by IGN, and probably haven’t cared about them since the Gamecube reporting days. Seriously, how much has IGN fallen since the early 2000s. I’m not just singling out this article either, I remember hearing about them writing up shit like How Dark Souls will eat Skyrim’s face, then following up with What Zelda can learn from Skyrim. Trash.

Nothing against you Sonichuman, I appreciate you reporting on gaming news in these threads but I’m wondering if it’s possible to ignore IGN and just post stuff from other gaming sites*? Eurogamer, Giantbomb, Gameinformer, etc. I’d even prefer links to console-centric, PC gaming is second rate, Uncharted wins every GOTY award Gametrailers.

  • I realize I could just do what I’ve always been doing and not click anything related to IGN but damn, those articles. Worse than Kotaku reporting on false rumours.

Any word on how many hours of gameplay this is?

Supposedly 50-100, but that is counting a second play-through (details of which haven’t been revealed AFAIK) and boss run mode.

@BadMojo: For-fuckin’-real! I stopped reading when every other article was “What we think about ___” or “Why ___ should ___”. Majority of their site is opinion I couldn’t possibly care less about, and very little reporting of actual news. I mainly go to Andriasang and to a lesser extent Joystiq.

…o_O? clicks the link to make sure it didn’t go anywhere else Nnnnope…still went to the same interview with Aonuma. I am unsure of how words that came from Aonuma sparked this…can you please explain?

Edit:

did…you or Koatl even bother clicking that link?

Of course I didn’t, don’t really want to give them any hits. But like I said I wasn’t singling out that particular article. My post was mainly directed at IGN as a whole and the way they word their titles. A lot of them come off as trying to create some form of controversy between unrelated games. On top of the two I originally wrote, here’s a couple others I found through google.

What Nintendo Can Learn from Catherine
Five Innovations Call of Duty Gave the World

Really, how much are those opinion pieces vs actual reporting? I can understand a site like Kotaku writing opinions, but coming from IGN, it’s like they’re just phishing for hits.

Yup. Read it and enjoyed it very much. I’m just speaking about IGN in general since the time I lost interest (about a year ago?). Too many opinion articles. Of course, it’s not only that.

Their SS coverage seems to be kicking ass though.

I know what you were referencing too…Gaf makes fun of those articles and it’s now a running gag which i find quite humourous (What Nascar 2011 could learn from Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm). Really though I don’t let stuff like that bug me at all considering that I see them as opinions regardless of how high profile they are. I mean in all honesty every review that has ever been written IS an opinion and it’s never the end all be all…everyone is entitled to one. I saw that article on the website ‘What Zelda can learn from Skyrim’ and I didn’t even look at it and even if I did if I disagreed with it then I disagreed with it…same with reviews from any other website.

I mean seriously I could hate on Destructoid alone because I don’t agree with the guy who seems to have a thing of hatred for the Sonic series but I don’t lol. Hell I find myself at odds with a ton of stuff in GI sometimes every other month but but it is their opinion…that’s it.

This has to be my 20th time listening to ‘Ballad of the Goddess’ on my 3DS. It’s sooooooooooooo gooooooooooood. Seeing all of the muscians doing their part their part for the song and hearing all the different layers of the orchestration is just…augh. Hopefully they’ll put it up online at some point so I can post it. This only brings my happiness full circle into profound sadness upon once again realizing that the concert may not even come to my state.

Review embargo will be up in 15 minutes.

I’m actually watching the Skyward Sword review thread on NeoGaf and finding it quite entertaining as the Embargo lifts.

GiantBomb gave it a 4/5 and Guardian gave it a 5/5

oh ho man this thread is entertaining lmao.

And now suddenly people are praising IGN lmao!

Edit:

man that EGM review…uhhh…yeeaaahhhh. Well I can’t say anything myself since I haven’t played the game at all yet so guess I’ll have to see come next Saturday night. I’ll have to read more of these tomorrow. Careful on reading some of those reviews though. A guy on gaf says that Giant Bomb’s has some spoiler stuff in it.

Yeah, that EGM review is pretty shocking. They complain about little things, like starting with six hearts instead of thee (didn’t know that).

I finally beat Spirit Tracks after 2 and a half months hiatus. I sum it up as a pretty decent game with a horrible control scheme. I liked what they did with the dungeons and whatnot; it just would’ve been way better with regular controls as an option and less awkward touchscreen gimmicks (oh… and FUCK that flute).

Now I gotta finish playing Super Mario RPG (never played it as a kid) and my adventure game backlog will be all cleared out and ready for Skyward Sword. HYPE!

After sleeping on it…A few things in that review start to not make much sense in the complaint department.

‘Unfortunately, if you’re like me and have played a good amount of button-mashers over the years—or even just older Zelda titles—your instinct is to attack hard and fast.’

…No not really? It depends upon the enemy you’re attacking. If a Like Like suddenly pops out of a pot I don’t immediately try attacking the the damn thing. Same could be said for Dark Nuts or Iron Knuckles. You don’t just try to rush those guys down wildly otherwise you’re leaving yourself open to eating a 6 heart attack.

'Twilight Princess’ motion controls worked because the game was more forgiving of your movements; simple flicks of your wrist would provide the desired results.’

This confuses me as well since I don’t understand how TP’s control scheme could be better than actually being able to pick and choose how to attack enemies rather than less precise flicks. It’s not as immersive when you’re swinging the wiimote and Link isn’t following your movements. I have to wait to actually get my hands on a game or hopefully find a chance to play a demo but I doubt this highly.

‘The most blatant annoyance storywise definitely has to be Zelda’s disempowerment.’

Trying to compare Zelda to Other M is dumb. I’m sorry…I’m usually not one to just call out people’s opinions on stuff in this manner but generally most people know that every Link and Zelda save for direct sequals to games here and there have been different characters. They may share some same qualities here and there but their personalities and their upbringing are different.

That reveiwer was basically saying his hand and eye coordination sucks and the game should of let him swing like an idiot.

lol at the Zelda complaint…seriously?

Six hearts? Gonna say right now this game is going to be piss easy based on that alone.

Fuck… how exciting!

For sure. I play Link the exact opposite of this reviewer. More like a samurai than a berserker.

Your post makes me curious about the second run. Hopefully it will be more difficult.

It’s been said that getting tagged by the enemies early in the game takes a full heart away. The 6 hearts are there to alleviate the fact that Nintendo knows that there are going to be people coming from Twilight Princess who are going to get their ass handed to them.

Edit:

I just finished reading 1up’s review and it actually feels pretty well written. Sounds like they bring up some pretty valid points.

Edit:

Eurogamer has their review up. 10/10 Trying to read through the lesser scored reviews to see what the complaints were since I already know what the perfect or near perfect scores say.

Wait…wait…people take video game reviews seriously?

Sad days.

holy shit we’re gonna see the origins of the masters sword

sorry umvc3 and kof 13 zelda comes first

Besides the NES games when hasn’t a Zelda game been easy? It isn’t like it has been the most execution heavy based game. The puzzles are what make a Zelda game what it is.
