Been trying to mess around with what kind of canceling can be done during combat. Using one handed weapons there’s a small sweet spot where if you swing your sword and then swap to another sword and begin mashing attack right as the first swing is at Link’s 2 o’clock(basically right before it connects), it will cancel into the start of a new combo but the hitbox from the first swing you did will remain and you will deal 2 hits at once. Nice way to add an extra hit. In theory this could be done infinitely until your weapons break but keeping the timing that is difficult. I myself successfully did 3 reps of it. You will know you did it right if you hear Link’s grunts overlap.
thats such a fighting game player thing to do lol
Breaking games’ combat systems is what we do.
Just consistently did that against a Lynel. Would use stasis and then do it while he was frozen and then crumpled. Felt nice to make each combo deal 5 hits instead of 4. Lol
Can now deal up to 7 hits if you cancel into jump slash at the end.
Some people use the Master Sword to take out Guardians.
Me, I use it to smack around boulders.
…also something I found out about early on, but didn’t share before (some people probably already know, but it hasn’t been mentioned here yet, major spoilers ahead).
[details=Spoiler]Apparently there’s new armor sets that people have found in the game, but won’t be available until new amiibo release…
Spoiler
There’s an armor set for Fierce Diety Link and a Skyward Sword set as well. These can only currently be acquired using a sort of “action replay” amiibo that can have its data altered to that of other amiibos, including ones not currently released. So I imagine we’re getting some kind of Majora’s Mask and Skyward Sword amiibos around the time that the first (or second) expansion pass releases.[/details]
I’m unlocking memories like a boss! And now that I can get Guardian gear, I’m actively hunting those things down for parts. There were a few around one of the towers that I didn’t have the arrows to take down so I just marked the map for where they are. Debating on which Guardian stuff I should buy from Robbie. The Chainsaw looks fun.
just focus on using parry. no need for anti guardian tech
That’s the thing I love about BOTW though: there’s multiple ways to go about dealing with things. Besides, I wan to test out the Guardian tech anyway.
Another way to take down guardians is to focus on their legs.
the guardian shield is op. you can reflect everything by holding the shieldbutton down. no timing needed.
once i started getting the combat mechanics down i stopped caring about a lot of that stuff. i haven’t even used an ancient arrow in forever.
In game testing, your job was to find those bugs/exploits and report them. Assuming someone did that, Nintendo probably didn’t see it as such a game breaking issue. Something to consider for various speed runs or to optimize combat.
“Oh hey, there’s a White-maned Lynel on the cliff here! Let’s glide over and headshot him with an Ancient Arrow for some free loot…”
Lynel disintegrates along with all the weapons he was holding

Forgot that someone here mentioned that’s what happens
I just cannot find the 4th fairy fountain. I’ve been searching and searching and still haven’t found it or any clues to its location. That said, I don’t want any hints. I can’t wait to see what the fairy, um, does to Link with that last upgrade.
Oh I’m well aware of the the consequences of one shooting foes with certain weapons. I still plan to get my fight on. Lynel fights are pretty fun.
Arin’s Lynel reaction in ep. 12 of the Game Grumps playthrough was spot on. It’s funny that he mentioned all those things in the area of the original Zelda around the Magic Sword. Those things he talked about? Those were Lynels. Needless to say, they are much more terrifying in this game when you first come across them.
Yeah there was definitely a long pause when you do it for the first time cause you’re like ‘…>.>…<.<…uhhhh…’ I was seriously kinda spooked cause I thought he was just gonna reappear out of nowhere and pull a Doakes on me but he didn’t.
@ReggieHadoken you want to upgrade the Ancient Armor at least twice… Ancient Proficiency is too good of a buff.
1.8x power boost on Guardian weapons BEFORE factoring in attack boosts from food… Guardians ain’t shit in the face of that.
Now I just save my Ancient arrows for Skywatchers, or if I’m getting swarmed and need to put one down quickly.
And, if you’re still whining about durability…
Finally went to Eventide Island.
Was fun, don’t get why people hated it so much. I just wish it was harder, once you took out the initial Bokoblin group with a tree branch it was smooth sailing.
Improvising against the Hinox was the best part, once I ran out of the few arrows I had I resorted to chucking tree branches and Bokoblin arms at his eye to knock him down and then snatching weapons from his neck to beat him up with.
…wish it was longer to be honest.
My big problem was going there too early… Before I learned the importance of cooking and battle tactics.
Oh, and fire… Setting lots and lots of fires.
BURN… FOR THE ROYALTY!
The Rito guy you meet there is pretty cool too. I swear the music that plays during a mini-game sounds like it came straight out of Mario Galaxy
…yeah, I’m gonna take a break from scouring the southeast and go check out the Rito’s homeland. They seem like really cool peeps in this game, much moreso than in Wind Waker imo.
