Certain weapons in this game last longer if you only use them for the specific purpose that they are best at. Anytime i come across a hammer or one of those goron ore breaker staffs i specifically only use them to break rocks since they do so in one hit. Same can be said for axes and using them mostly to chop things as opposed to using them in combat. Add that on top of natural progression (‘getting gud’, upgrading your inventory space, and finding weapons with higher durability) and it quickly becomes a non issue.
i do hope the sequel gets rid of the durability issue and just encourages exploration in another way. Maybe optional dungeons + shrines is the better way to go, since they feel unique. More boss battles that are like minipuzzles would be good too.
I didn’t like how common two handed weapons were. I found myself dropping them as much as possible.
Once you reach a certain point, weapons breaking isn’t the problem… It’s having the inventory space to carry all that shit, or having to make Sophie’s Choice over which weapon you’re going to drop in favor of a new one.
I’m more irritated by the fact that now I’m intentionally trying to break my shit so I can load up on Guardian killing items to gather ancient materials for Robbie.
I think the durability could just be tweaked a bit. Minecraft has basically the same thing going but weapons last longer and you can repair weapons with the right materials and XP.
In BotW I feel like you should be able to take down something like a Hinox with a mid grade weapon (dragon bone stuff maybe) and only have it be close to breaking.
Actually you can just hold the whistle button while tapping run and you never lose any stamina whatsoever. (Or was it vice versa? In any case, you hold one and tap the other).
Personally I always have the camera out, so I prefer wasting my weapons over switching to bombs all the time.
Most of the time bombs are a go to for ore and trees…but if you are on a mountain and you explode some ore and a valuable pieces flies down the mountain side…you start thinking about whether you wanna go down there and get it or if its pretty far.
I’d have to test it to be sure, but I don’t think that’s the case, I think the weapons just use less durability when you’re breaking rocks or cutting down trees. I didn’t have a hammer so I used a Knight’s Claymore that I had on hand to mine (also breaks rocks in one hit) and it lasted for quite a while, longer than if it was in combat. Same for using a Sword to cut down trees.
…at work without a Switch so I can’t confirm this though.
Weapons with high attack would break ore in one hit but I had a hammer with around 14 attack breaking rocks in one hit that my swords that had higher damage on them took a few swings.
I mean like any two-handed weapons seems to work for mining and lasts longer if you use it for that (Claymores or the two handed Elemental Swords). Not just hammers. Dunno about stuff like Boko Bats or Moblin Clubs though. I had a Great Frostblade that lasted me 2 full play sessions when I was using it for mining (forget how many rocks I went through but it was more swings on the rocks then it would have lasted vs enemies).
I don’t think weapons break too soon at all. As I’ve mentioned before, you’re weapon deals a critical hit upon breaking which causes double damage. Using the correct series of weapons and armor in a fight can optimize your damage output with that in mind.
I always wondered how the Gerudo kept up their population numbers despite the way they forbid men into their territory…
Finding out that they go into Hyrule and just snatch up dudes for baby-making is quite hilarious and disturbing, yet right in line with their cultural values…
