The Legend of Zelda thread - Ganon's bodyshop will be open for business on Nov. 20th

Watch the vid, arin clearly does it and is moving at a running pace, not a jog. It looks awkward as hell

I see it now. You just couldn’t recognize what he was doing and described it stupidly.

You keep tapping the whistle button while tapping the sprint button at the same time. Time it wrong and you lose stamina.

Interesting but the input is awkward.

I think we’ve created in LordWilliam…

…what?

Supposed to say monster…I dont know why it got left out…Created a monster*

Not really, I just have a habit of going off on Mood even when it’s not warranted 'cause of how much of a whiny scrub he was in the Smash thread.

I’m not even close to being a “monster,” I just get easily triggered by combinations of laziness, incompetence and not being able to see the explanations for situations that I think should be quite obvious.

It supposed to be a joke. Don’t take it seriously.

I know, but even if it’s a joke sometimes it’s a good segway into explaining my actions.

Divine Beast Vah Medoh (Bird)

I’m at the terminal that is inside the left wing just not sure how to get out. There’s rail there but lift to be taken out back across. Help.

EDIT: Never mind, I thought…

Spoiler

moving the Divine Beast was only limited to the elephant. Didn’t think to look at the slate earlier >_<

How many ya’ll think Hylan men die by Gerudo snuu snuu?

Does anyone else find it really awkward to have the shield and arrow be on the bottom shoulder buttons? I dont know what theyre called. But I feel like the arrow buttom should be the button used to throw your weapon, and the shield button should be the button you use to flip through those skill things (bomb, stasis etc)

Even having beaten the game, I still kind of have to stop for a second and think.

Nah, at least on the Wii U gamepad it feels natural for those two actions to be the bottom shoulder buttons. More comfortable to hold down for longer periods too, at least for me.

Side note, wandering the net and I saw this comment in regards to BotW’s weapon durability.

[details=Spoiler]Game Designer Here :
The Weapon Durability system is absolutely integral to the game and the way it is meant to be played. This system serves so many functions at once, so lets list a couple.

  1. Drives the games loot system
  2. Forces the player out of their comfort zone so they discover the benefits of different weapons (Axes vs. Shields)
  3. Give players a reason to test and experiment with different creative solutions (Using korok leaves to send bombs flying off, Ferrous weapons used to conduct electricity etc.)
  4. Drive the game’s economy.
  5. Cycle more powerful weapons through the players hands as they progress in the game (Bo Bloodmoons, Bo Koblins)

Now lets see what the consequences of removing that system would be…

  1. Game’s economy breaks
  2. Players get one good weapon, and never try anything new
  3. Loot loses all meaning (as what is left are crafting mats mostly)
  4. Games combat breaks (certain abilities like throwing weapons become infinitely more viable)

So, I know the durability system can be annoying. I myself have been annoyed by it. But I still find it to be a brilliant piece of design, and one that pushes all the games major goals in the right ways. Ideally, design is supposed to solve as many problems at once as it can. This does that. This constant vitriol over systems that challenge the player is what has driven games over time to be much more shallow. Usually I would not comment something like this, but I really feel this is a perception born of ignorance. If you want a deep game, you need deep systems. When you take away this games durability system, you get an open Twilight princess, and while that may be better than linear twilight princess, it would still be far more shallow as a result.[/details]

Curious as to more thoughts from either side.

I like the way that dude thinks.

I feel like most of the people complaining about durability are the same ones who have been complaining about shallow combat in previous Zeldas, yet are too myopic to think beyond their annoyance.

It can be kind of a pain to have a cool weapon break, bit the fact you can always hunt down more using the Slate’s search function, plus the fact that enemies always drop weapons makes up the difference…

Instead of getting one bad ass weapon and sitting on it the whole game, you’re forced to switch it up and learn how the different weapons function in varying situations…

Did you know Spears allow you to easily strike at a Talus’ weakpoint, and are top tier while riding a mount? Or that zweihanders and axes have an amazing mob clearing charge attack? Would you have learned that if you just swung the Master Sword at everything and called it a day?

Even the bows have unique properties, like firing multiple shots, differing ranges and angles, or in the case of the Phrenic and Golden bow, sniper zoom.

Sounds like you and Cloud.

Yeah, I’ve got to agree with that guy. Not only would losing weapon durability break the game’s economy, it would also affect the game’s incentive to explore. For me, the biggest part of this game is simply exploring the world and randomly finding weapons scattered around. I’ve been playing for probably over 100 hours, yet I’m still excited when I find a batch of elemental arrows or a useful weapon.

So I’m sitting of 5 Diamonds, 6 Rubies, 6 Sapphires and 9 Topazes right now. Do gems hold any value outside of getting more rupees?

Mainly to create and upgrade Gerudo Jewelry and the reconstruction of weapons related to the Champions that you get as rewards for beating their dungeons.
They’re not too invaluable to sell if you need the dough. Besides, you can easily get more from taking down a couple Taluses.

i just sell them.

…huh, good thing I’ve barely sold any of my gems, I didn’t know that was a thing yet. I haven’t even gotten to the desert yet, I’m too busy checking every nook and cranny on the south-eastern portion of the map right now

I mean, i think weapon durability could use some tweaking. Like maybe if the weapons lasted longer it wouldn’t be an issue. I dont mind it but i do feel they went a wee bit overboard with it
