The Legend of Korra: The other Platinum game for October

Other costume is UP > DOWN > UP > HEAVY > LIGHT > HEAVY

the more I play the more I enjoy the game.

Just completed Pro-Bending and it’s the worst part of the game by far, glad I’m over with it

I’m halfway trough on Extreme and haven’t got the trophy for completing all the “Tutorial”, wich sucks because Jinora only gives you tutorials on the first playtrough… :disappointed:

Avatar State is really well done in the game

Same, but there’s too many Naga sections so far.

Maxed out bending levels(lvl3 chi charging) makes it basically a different game. Also if you guys didn’t know, if you release a charge right when the whoosh sound finishes(or when the rings touch Korra) it does a perfect charge(PC) which increases the damage of that one attack. You’ll know you did it right because Korra’s body will flash and you’ll hear a loud CHING sound. Very useful when combined with the Quick Charge Talisman and any of Earth’s attacks or any strong single instance attacks like flame thrower, iceburg, or shoryuken.

Earth kicks up boulders and does CRAZY damage especially with PC. It actually has enough range when maxed to be a decent mid-range and group attack style.

Water shots now split when they hit an enemy so you can keep entire groups at bay, plus the two freezing attacks freeze way more often(which has crazy good synergy with Earth). The reel-in attack also combos into Earth cleanly even on bending enemies that can counter.

Fire makes all of your attacks teleport you to a locked on opponent, that shit is nuts and that alone makes this style hella good. It actually makes it’s R2x2 dash useless unless running away though lol

Air has massive area attacks, and becomes easily the simplest answer to any situation. IMO it’s actually a bit too good. Considering it’s area coverage it does a bit too much damage and you start summoning tornados n shit. It’s also a bit boring because it’s so simple though, and doesn’t have any particular utility aside from making large groups of chi blockers a joke. Also the multiple air projectiles it shoots all do damage to the same enemy so it’s also the giant boss killer, it even outdamages earth, which is dumb. PC shoryuken is nice and combos to air Earth PC T very well.

Surprisingly Water is one of my favs, and it works so well with Earth.

so I learned something interesting. if you do a charged level 3 Y attack using earth element on ground rocks or boulders it gives you automatic life replenish each and every time.
that’s interesting.

also, I’m trying to mix up different elements during combos.
my personal favorite is air x, x, x, y switch to earth while charging y (she’ll do her air shoryuken move) then do charged y again midair and she’ll come down with her earth ground punch.
and I also like jump cancel y with water, x x x, switch to fire R2 x2 into whatever you want.

there’s tremendous potential here for combo exploration.
P* is A+++

quoted for posterity.
lol at SWBeta for uninstalling the game cause he judged it based only on the first 10 minutes of the game.
what a dumb ass

Air bending is basically the shoto-moveset (projectiles, tatsumaki and shoryuken) but with T. Hawk’s Condor Spire/Dive. Shit’s too good. You can basically combo into tatsu, do DP, then condor dive down, then combo back into dp, condor dive, repeat.

EDIT: Found come combo videos for the game.

Got the platinum trophy last night.

Actually, it was my wife who got the last trophy, since I lost the Tutorial trophy (bullshit!!) and had to speedrun the game from start on Casual, so my wife did most of it. The game is considerably hard even on Casual, so my wife couldn’t defeat the Giant Mechas or the Naga sequences, so I did those for her.

The hardest part on Extreme was, by far, the final Naga sequence. The rest of Extreme is fairly easy if you use the right talismans, especially the one that keeps you charged all the time (with your health halved) combined with the one that regenerates your health.

Also, Pro Bending sucks and completing it on Ace was fairly difficult.

Overall, Air is the best element IMO, especially when you’re fully charged all the time with the talisman. Having those whirlwinds around you really helps a lot. Plus, you can airball to move faster and look cool at the same time.

I wish there was more of the game…

I can’t believe people say there is no depth to the combat in this game. The more I play it the better it gets and the more merit I see in all of the styles.

Water just gets better and better for me, it outranges Air quite massively actually, and freeze is just so freakin useful as a status. Freeze works on those giant spirits, not sure if it works against mechs, but I bet it does because the flame status does

Against large or high HP enemies, try using the Air tornados to stunlock em and charge up Earth moves or spam freezing moves.

The fire breath attack actually inflicts a status too that basically works the same as freeze but for less time. Also I noticed the teleport range is limited to somewhere between the Air and Water projectile range.

Earth of course breaks guard right away and stuns SUPER fast.

Oh and Water’s Circle finisher hits multiple times on a single enemy if you use it up close so it is actually the strongest single target finisher AND it’s a great group finisher too since it’s a projectile. It’s basically the only finish you should ever use, unless there’s a group of them stunned really close together, Earth MIGHT be better then, but even then maybe not lol.

The game has some problems, but the combat system you have isn’t one of them.

Air is the best finish, because Korra does some serious “capoeira” moves!

That is certainly true lol

The only one i try to avoid using is the fire one because it’s the most boring lol

The only real complaints I have against the game are the lackluster plot and the fact that the Naga sequences get old fast. The combat is so much fun that it honestly makes up for those negatives. I’d love to see a sequel with similar combat mechanics (with a little more variety) combined with a plot that’s actually good, but given the negative reception I don’t think the likelihood of that happening is very high. Seems like people came in expecting this to be Bayonetta-level and were disappointed; for a $15 Platinum title it’s not bad at all!

Fire it’s the only real letdown in the game, most of its moves are boring and uninteresting, with some few exceptions like Korra doing an Uncle Iroh impersonation and breathing fire or the double dash, where she uses fire thrusters like Azula.

me want a sequel to this game headed by Platinum where they make full length triple A game.
me wannie.
scratch that, me wannie multiple sequels.

lol, watch us get a sequel but Nickelodeon will come out and say they aren’t happy with the way the game turned out and give the Korra ip to another developer.
watch someone throw a monkey wrench into this hopeful budding franchise.

It looks like these “journalists” are all caught up on how short the movelist seems to be and don’t realize how much freedom and creativity element switching allows.

IMO, Fire was always the most boring, even in the show, and that has never changed. That said, yeah I wish Platinum could have put in some flashier stuff. The teleporting is certainly great, it just doesn’t really have any “style” attacks.

I haven’t even bothered to look at a review, I’m sure I would just rage

Oh what. I actually like using fire the most, probably because its the most close combat one(aside from slow earth) so it matches how I would typically play. but omg the element mix up combos too good. I did about 6 levels last night. The game is truly not as easy as I would’ve thought. Simply due to how much damage you talk from hit. But I definitely been enjoying it.

And idk if its me, but every time I dodge an attack instead of counter, I always expect Witch Time to activate lol. But definitely gonna try to go for the Plat trophy possibly since the requirements for it are more or less “do unlock everything”

the one thing that irks me was the fights with the giant spirits.
not because of anything they did or do as so much the camera gets crazy during those particular fights.
either the camera wants to take a worm’s eye view or it wants to take a bird’s eye view of the fight when I need that camera behind Korra and over her shoulder to know when to parry.
jeez. I hate dying do to the fact I cant see wtf is going on because the cam is all ovr the place.
meanwhile the camera is fine when fighting the giant mechs. I realized that the problem with the camera during the giant spirit battles was the fact the arena is substantially smaller fighting them as opposed to the mechs.

the game is def harder than anyone wants to admit to. I died a bunch in the game. haven’t finished it yet. I died during the final battle and left it for later.

The camera during the Giant Spirits fight at the end of chapter 6 was fucking ridiculous. I literally couuldn’t see shit. I got rhough the fight by mashing, and and doing random dodges and blocks. It wasn’t until I beat one of the spirits that the camera went to normal.

And yeah the game isn’t hard but for a budget game, thats mainly aimed to fans of the show. It has some difficulty, the mechs can fuck you up easily if you get hit. And fighting other benders I feel would be harder, but the little clash mode thing kinda makes them easy, since you’ll end up doing that alot more than actually combo-ing them lol
