The Legend of Korra: The other Platinum game for October

Azula was the only one that made Firebending interesting to me. She uses blue fire and lightning, how cool is that?

Fire is useful in the game when you are constantly charged (using the talisman), you get pretty fast and automatically get close to the opponent, but the range is too short to hit more than one enemy and the damage is too low, wich is absurd since hitting someone with fire should certainly inflict more damage than water or air.

The game is not easy and I’d recommend anyone to do what I did on my first playtrough (on Normal): use the talisman that halves your health but double the bending XP you gain, that way you’ll level up all your bending pretty quickly and I was able to reach the last boss with all 4 elements maxed out (level 10). Also, doing longer combos gives you more Bending XP, I used to do the “shoot ice” attack (UP > UP > Hard Attack then mash Hard Attack) to maximize the hits, my longest combo was over 500 hits and I leveled up twice with that many XP.

Ah question since I’m assuming yall watch. So is Korra more action packed than Avatar? The game respiked my interest in the series. So I copped the whole series of Last Airbender, should be in tomorrow. I enjoyed the show alot as a kid, but never finished. But i remember it being more adventure based. But I hear Korra has more a stable setting and is sorta action packed. So it seems it kinda went maybe a DB -> DBZ route?

And I also hear because Korra is a less adventurous series its more character focused

I ran through the game the first time with the half-health/double-XP and half-attack/double-money items on, surprisingly you can still do a ton of damage with that handicap in play, and the benefits are worth it.

Yeah for that fight I fight unlocked and just poke with Water and fish for counters basically. It’s a bit boring, but it’s the only way I can do it without taking damage. It’s easily the most troublesome fight in the game for me. Not really hard, just troublesome. Air absolutely DESTROYS them, but doesn’t build a high enough combo on their own. Though if you mixed in some ice daggers it would probably be enough. I just don’t like relying on Air, but when I go for all Plat on Extreme, I’ll probably just do it that way

It’s not super action packed, but the action IMO is better choreographed and animated when it does show up. Especially in season 3, it has some of the best animated fights I’ve seen and has the most creative power usage so far.

Ah I see ok. My friend was telling more that Korra is a more aggressive MC compared to Aang and that she’s more willing to throwdown, so I thought it would be more actiony due to her attitude. And yeah I hear alot of people saying that Korra series probably has the best animated fight scene. I know a friend pissed hella people off when he said the choreographed fights in Korra were better than say an Anime fight and niggas raged.

But yeah I’ll get to it. I’m gonna start Avatar this Saturday if I ain’t too preoccupied with games or etc

I maxed out alll elements and I’m not even past level 5. Though that’s because I went back to the previous levels to level up, grab all the boxes and get gold.

Well, to be fair, the budgets that Japanese animation gets compared to American ones is just not even comparable. It’s literally no surprise that the animation is better than a large majority of anime, because most anime could not possibly afford to monetarily keep up that level of animation. That’s why anime often has one or two REALLY crazily animated episodes, so at least for the most climactic scenes they can really flex their animation muscle

yunno Fire and Water/Earth and Air(wind) are on opposite sides to each other on the elemental wheel.
that means if you wanna switch to fire directly from a water combo you never need to take your eyes of the fight when all you have to do is be mindful that if you double tap LB or RB you’ll still have the element you want.
just realized that.
cuz anybody can switch between the neighboring elements to do combos…but I bet the combos that are on opposite ends of the elelmental wheel are the combos that will be the least exploited by folks.

I personally try using air to earth as much as I can.

also…
is it just me and my imagination or does using air clear the green smoke the enemies throw out?
and…
yunno that mountain top with the treasure chest in the snow stage?
From up there you can see there’s that stone wall with the earth treasure chest, a few foot grunts, and a mech behind it.
I wanted to see if I could break through it using her Air condor dive move. that’s mid air charged Y but from the very top of the mountain.
Well anyway, I neutral jumped charged up air Y up to level 3…and condor dived to the wall from the mountain top. I didn’t break it but I realized that her condor dive can go on infinitely. unlike Fire R2x2 it doesn’t have a limit to its distance covered.

yunno who Korra reminds me of?
Dante in DMC4.
with the ability to switch “styles” on the fly to extend combos.

but I wish P* had mapped the elements to the D pad instead of using LB/RB solely for the fact if the elements were on the D pad you could switch to an element directly with no delay ie having to be skipping over one.
imo.
The D pad mapping is why in DMC4 switching styles with Dante is so much better, faster, easier than switching elements with Korra.

The more I play this and the more I’m convinced that Platinum’s B-team worked on this. This game doesn’t have the polish of it’s other titles and the fact it doesn’t throw different situation at you to spice things up is a letdown. Just more of the same enemies you fight all game.

I finished the game earlier. I enjoyed it alot by judging it for what it was. Definitely wished they threw more combat situations that required you to do some shit. But even though you aren’t encouraged to do elemental switch conbos best believe I was doing them.

Gotta realized they most likely made this ultra quick to drop while Korra is at hype with its final season

from the steam forums

I actually found this too yesterday but I never thought about breaking them in a certain order.

edit:you have to do it in order of the acquisition of your powers. water, earth, fire, air…it produces a secret chest…
but nothing special is in it! just random vanity item. lame!
maybe its a different order.

shadow fist+powx2+chi full charge+speed up=crazy OP
yunno that fight at the end of chapter 3 against the 3 element users.
19 seconds total battle time. crazy attack power.

I would suggest replacing fast charge for speed up. Speed up is basically unnecessary with full charge because of water and fire styles. Fast charge is still good because of perfect charging. If you have fast charge+full charge you barely even need powx2 for fast kills

Total Biscuit tore this game up. From what I’ve watched I’ll pass.

Still watching Korra though.

Not sure who that is, but if you like platinum, you’ll still like this.

totalbiscuits turning off comments section is so gay.
he’s a meh reviewer.
I only really respect CGRundertow for game reviews. they get reviewing mostly right. neither too critical or negative while neither being too glowing & positive.

also,
extreme difficulty, no item, no damage, platinum grade runs of some chapter snipets.

Still can’t beat the 3 assholes after you unlock earthbending. They seem to do more damage now, and have actual teamwork. Not using any items or buffs.

Still can’t do it, getting shit damage even with damage buff. Fuck this game.

Itemless, no damage is pretty sick. Especially when the game doesn’t even require that lol. Just getting Platinums at all is hard enough for me

How are you fighting them? In general Earth shouldn’t be use against groups unless they’re all close together, already stunned, or at least if you can charge it to higher chi levels.

One thing I realized when I finally started to feel in control was that I simply wasn’t using other tools enough. Water does amazing at giving you a head start on situation control from a distance, and you should absolutely use ice daggers(if you bought them) to freeze and build up combo. Otherwise you can also use the big Tri. splash to freeze attack.

I start with water, immediately get close, spam light and bait counter, then isolate one and go with earth. Then the other 2 rediscover their balls after I’ve reduced my target to half health (because he keeps trying to evade in a corner and goes nowhere while I keep tagging them) and team up on me from behind, doing a ridiculous amount of damage. I evade out of 3 or so more hits that nearly kill me, only to die to flamethrower or random earthbender attack. Didn’t buy ice daggers, wasted all my money on health recovery while trying to win this fight. Bayonetta had witch time to deal with this kinda shit, but this game…

DAMMIT. If I’m not getting killed by the earthbender it’s that coward-ass, sneak-attacking firebender.

Ok, how do you use daggers? Ice splash is useless as the initial water splash knocks the opponent away from where the ice will form.

Took off the “do more damage but lose half life” buff…and died in like 6 seconds whereas WITH it I last like 40 seconds. Fuck this, uninstalling this budgette pos before I do something to my ps3.
