The Legend of Korra: The other Platinum game for October

Having now just watched Season 3, sadly I have to disagree

Season 3 is by far the best season of Korra, but it’s still considerably below any season of TLA for me.

You put it below Season 1 of TLA? Lol ok.

Season 1 of TLA is the weakest season throughout both series.

@TheKingOfParody‌ the series actually has really good fighting in it every episode. It’s not like japanese-made anime where they make you wait a month until they throw a punch. I never watched TLA (don’t plan to) so finding this out was a pleasant surprise.

I’m so hype for this, getting this on day 1. great-quality action games are still a tough find on steam. hopefully ppl can break in and mod it. just for the heck of it. bc what else is there to do on pc :stuck_out_tongue:

Funny that you guys would think that.

Considering that I have a very limited amount of time available for new shows, I wouldn’t have reached Season 2 of TLA if S1 wasn’t particularly good.

Season 1 and 2 of Korra are just way worse than anything else. To sum things up:

Sokka > Bolin as comic relief
Katara > Mako as love interest
Appa > Naga animal sidekick
Momo > Pabu (even tough Red Pandas are of one of the best animals ever)
Aang in Avatar State >>>>>>>>>>>> Korra in Avatar State (where she’s just useless and don’t transmit the idea of a supreme power, see Aang at the end of S1, creating a huge water monster)

And Avatar Roku shits on Tenzin as mentor/spiritual guide

And I’m sticking only to S1 of TLA

Also, Korra bothers me for having too much technology and having little emphasis on the mystical side of bending, it’s all very mundane and strictly physical for most of it (Pro-bending, anyone?)

And if Seasons 1 and 2 of Korra were that bad, then why did you bother watching Books 2 and 3?

I was already invested in the show at that point, wich always makes us cling to the show way beyond a reasonable point in some cases (see Heroes).

They aren’t “bad”, they are pretty good shows by themselves, they are just not up to TLA level for me and my wife.

And I was really looking forward to S3, since people kept telling me that it was the best one, so I would have endured 1 and 2 even if they were way worse.

Also, more Avatar is always good and Korra has a lot going on for it: more details on the whole Avatar history, expansions of the bending, including more on metal and combustion bending and lava bending as a whole new variation of earth. Not to mention the ultimate evolution of an airbender being the ability to fly.

I just think they should never have used a world with so much technology, cars and planes rendered animals (especially air bisons) pretty useless forms of transportations

We didn’t say it wasn’t good. Weak means not as good the rest. Season 1 of TLA was merely ok. Season 1 didn’t even pick up until the finale. There were a few bright spots but overall just ok.

You don’t get it. Book 3 of Korra is the series’ “Empire Strikes Back” moment. Not just because of the downer ending, but because of how it both raises the stakes and makes the main character (and the viewer) question what they know. While Korra questions her role as Avatar (something that continues on to Book 4), the setting also helps in that it makes it easier to question the role of bending in a world where there’s technology. This wouldn’t really work if it were set in a less technological setting. At the same time, it also ties into our own world where the equivalent time here was also a time of great social upheaval. This is after all when Russia became communist and Germany, Italy and Spain were taken over by fascist regimes.

Well, you have to concede that Book 1 of TLA had a much difficult task to perform, having to introduce us to a whole new universe all at once

Yeah, I definetely get that! And that’s what bothers me too. Having less emphasis on bending (and the whole spiritual and philosofical meaning of it) and more on technology it’s what weakens the series for me. It’s cool if you REALLY like the characters, but it wasn’t the case for me. Korra is most of the time a hot-headed, stuborn bitch and a far less powerful Avatar than Aang (see my critic of her Avatar State).

Also, introducing too many political themes is not something I want in my cartoons, to be honest. I like how TLA focus more emotions like friendship, loyalty, love and duty than on the corruptive side of power or different political views, like anarchism.

And I don’t really want a cartoon that ties into our own world. Shit like that served only to make the new Star Wars even worst than the first 3 for me.

(Altough it can work for some shows, like BSG)

Okay…when the hell was she a Stubborn Bitch in Book 3? I’d really LOVE to hear it.

In Book 3 she was too busy being captured all the time and forgetting how to use Avatar State until she was poisoned right in the end

Korra was only captured twice in Book 3 (the first time was a failure). Korra never depended on the Avatar state like Aang did. This is mostly due to Korra being spiritually inept. In the Book 3 finale she was forced into the Avatar State as a last ditch effort to keep herself alive.

Yeah, spiritually inept even after a whole season called “Spirits” where she had great contact with spirits, including connecting with the first Avatar (something that Aang never did). Also, she was almost a fully trained avatar when the series started, unlike Aang, and yet her avatar state is pretty much useless. Just count how many times since Book 1 you can see her eyes glowing white and nothing extraordinary happens.

Look at me, arguing about a cartoon on the internet… I can almost feel my weigth going up while I’m slowly turning back into a virgin again… my wife won’t like this!

To keep this OT, I really hope her avatar state in the game is something truly powerful, like God/Titan Mode in GoW or Wicked Weave in Bayonetta

She’s gotten better with spirits but spiritually is still her weakest stat. At the end of Book 2 she lost her connection to all the previous Avatars. So all their knowledge, wisdom and experience she would have gotten from being in the Avatar State is gone. Yea, Avatar State as it is now isn’t every strong. I like she doesn’t relay on it. I always hate powered up forms become clutches once they are introduced.

Well, she wasn’t that strong on the Avatar State to begin with… My understanding is that the creator found AS too powerful on TLA (hence the bullshit excuse for Aang to lose it until the final fight of the series), so the whole AS was severed gimped on Korra, but that doesn’t stop me from making fun or be annoyed at it.

Korra’s avatar state is actually stronger than Aang’s. Aang had the wisdom of all the previous avatars to guide him in the state where Korra has her and Raava alone. Raava was big as hell and stronger when she combined with Korra again making her state stronger. It was basically a reboot for Korra

The writers said this themselves

They just forgot to show us that on the show, right?

Yeah, it’s not like a Poisoned Avatar State Korra completely broke free of an assassination designed specifically for her, neutralized and overpowered 3 of the deadliest benders in the world and was beating Zaheer who was using an Airbending skill that was never seen before, only failing in the end due to having to succumb to said poison in the end.

I guess if you aren’t combining with a Water Spirit, your Avatar State ain’t shit. But fine, remain biased to TLA. No one will judge you.
