Here’s a brief summary of what’s different in survivor mode:
No Listen Mode.
Item placement is the same. There are less items in general so you’ll either find an item is not available at a location or there are less items available.
Enemy placement is the same. The number of enemies, where they are placed, and their patrol routers are pretty much the same as normal mode.
Infected are much harder to deal with. Runners are more active in their patrol routes and it’s incredibly difficult to sneak up behind them. I tried sneaking behind one during the first clicker/runner encounter and it was able to detect me with its back completely turned while I was crouch walking. It feels like there’s a certain timing to it but its very difficult thus far. I don’t look forward to any of the infected encounters in the game.
Human encounters seem about the same difficulty. I actually breezed through them faster than my first play through with a better understanding of the controls and remembering their patrol patterns from normal mode.
This multiplayer is pretty good. The melee options suck, but it’s not so bad.
I really wish you could make a clan in the game (not faction “clan”). You also can’t join a friends game in progress.
What do you guys think (for those who played multiplayer) the weapon balance feels like?
I think that some of the weapons need some fixing, such as the sniper rifle (hunting rifle). That shit sometimes doesn’t OHK when you get the headshot. Even a shot to the face sometimes downs them but doesn’t outright kill them. The “El Diablo” should come with more ammo when initially purchased, even though it kills in two shots, it should be able to OHK to the body near the neck. The grenades be too strong with their lethal radius, I feel it should be shortened, or lower their damage slightly. I believe I was 7 feet from the placed grenade and I died cuz a teammate triggered that shit. I haven’t ranked up much at all, but how’s the other weapons?
My only gripe with this games story is how kill friendly Joel and Tess are.
Most of the people they kill have it coming, and are really fucked up(Like David and the tourist hunters), but a number of people are seemingly innocent or are just doing a job they’ve been assigned. This is especially off putting seeing as how most of the kills in this game are stealth kills, I know gameplay wise putting someone in a sleeper hold until they’re knocked out and crushing someones wind pipe with your forearm is the same but story and character wise the latter just seems unneeded most of the time.
I’d rather this game be like Deus Ex where you can go through the whole game not killing anyone for the most part.
Then again it’s made pretty clear by the end of the game that Joel is sort of a selfish asshole, for multiple reasons.
Spoiler
I remember a recording(findable in one of the rooms) that stated that there were multiple “immune” tested before Ellie that died in vain, though she was apparently “unique”
Just finished the game. God, just beautiful.
I want to play it on whatever the top difficulty is, but [details=Spoiler]god damn, that Boomer in the basement, the clicker ant the half dozen runners…I don’t think I can deal with that again.[/details]
Just wondering, [details=Spoiler]the next boomer you see indoors at the science lab, how many just snuck past his ass? I hate those bastards, got the hell out as quickly as I could.[/spoiler}
Honesstly I think the RIfle needs some buffing, I’m not gonna harp about my expectations on a hunting rifle, but the gun is just fucking shitty, a sniper rifle that has bolt function that can’t kill in a single shot needs to get benched, it’s amazing how terrible a gun it is and how I put up with it.
But nowadays I’m that close combat stealth shiver with an occasionally itchy trigger finger, sometimes a game just comes around to fuck up who you actually are when it comes to procedure, and this game (as well as max payne) is a good example of me doing shit out of character, like leaving a roost with good lanes and being mobile and trying to use stealth.
Yeah, the hunting rifle needs at least a damage boost or faster reload. But I don’t think it should down, let alone kill, with one hit, or else it’d reduce the revive / heal element.
I’m really impressed with the overall MP balance and design. The default weapons all have ammo, damage, reload drawbacks to encourage team support and not make MP another lone wolf run and gun shooter. The weapons and items that are strong at least have to be bought or upgraded with parts. And when enemies camp, a bomb is the best way to flush them out. Melee is almost a non-factor, but I’d rather have it this way than the melee shenanigans from Uncharted MP.
honestly I Prefer the lone wolf deal. I wish there were more traps similar in design to magazines in MGO to teach people not to ride each others asses so close.
So far there is no detriment to walking around with your buddy like y’all are Siamese twins. a good magazine would clear that right up. Make people wisen up about who they run with and who to follow a few paces behind (because you KNOW they are gonna trigger something.)
I also feel like they could have implemented bottles and bricks into the gameplay somehow. Maybe creating false blips on the radar or having some effect on the listen mode.
Or just smacking the shit out of someone with them. That works too.
Also shoutouts to Gomu for holding it down with those badass molotov throws. Naught dawg needs to give that man a download code to a colts helmet or something for his customization his man has that super QB vision.
I actually made 2 save files at that point so that I could try my best at fighting them head on and sneaking past them. I actually had an easier time killing them than sneaking past them, cuz that bloater somehow killed me lol.
Nothing but shotgun, El Diablo headshotting, and flamethrower/molotovs on their ass. All I did was group them up via a bottle, then poof 1 molotov = 5 kills
