Dreamcastguy posted his spoiler review.
No spoilers but, neat New Game Theory video going back to the first Last of Us game:
I’m wondering something here: we’re, right now, dunking ourselves in schadenfreude watching other people not like the game. But when all is said and done, will this have any impact on anything going forward? I’m thinking this is another case of the minority screaming super hard to no effect. It’s looking like the reception is still mostly positive.
Finished watching it.
The review-bombing is overblown, but so is the Pro shilling.
5/10 overall. I’d rather rewatch MK11’s Story.
Who knows?
Fact is that regardless of the quality of the game, it’ll sell. Controversy sells.
Take Pokémon Sword and Shield for example. I can dunk on it for hours, but let’s be real, it was always going to sell anyway.
Discussion and opinions ain’t about just getting drunk on schadenfreude, it’s about voicing your opinions, whatever they are.
Don’t be silly. This isn’t somehow a “cause” or “movement” people are striving towards. It’s just Big fans of the first game talking about how pissed they are, regarding the decisions made about the characters in the sequel. Which they are very justified in doing so.
Edit: And thus far only the shill media giving the game universal 100’s is positive. When you look away from the mainstream sites and focus more on actual player reviews? It’s a very different story.
You won’t find out until their next game. Despite its problems and the media coverage Mass Effect Andromeda sold well. It was in the top ten selling games of the year and sold 4 million units in North America alone. Anthem on the other hand tanked hard.
I can’t stop laughing
I don’t get how a game that isn’t fun is supposed to be great. I’ve seen divergent opinions on TLOU2 but, at least from gamers, the people that liked the game enjoyed playing it. I don’t see how paying $60 for 25 hours of misery is a positive thing. Seems like some of these games journalist have their heads up their asses.
made me laff

In short, The Last of Us Part 2 put me through hell. I did not enjoy it. I wasn’t supposed to.
Lmao did this dude just compare a Zombie Survival game to the fucking Holocaust?
Regardless on whether you think TLoU2 has a bad story or not, the way they’re telling it bums me out.
Hours of cutscenes and QTEs are lame. There are so many interesting and innovative ways to tell a story in video games.
Journey did it. Undertale did it. PT did it.
Cutscenes are played out. QTEs sucked 10 years ago and still suck. I was hoping they would stop pretending to be an HBO show and be a video game.
Edit: I’m playing Obra Dinn right now and the way that game tells its story is fucking amazing. No QTEs, no long cutscenes.
Journey isn’t telling a story like TLoU does though.
Undertake DOES have tons of talking parts, those ARE old school cutscenes. The only input the player has is advancing text.
PT is a horror story and is supposed to be vague.
Like wtf dude? Yeah they could have had no cutscenes and had everything real time like Half Life I guess, but to tell a story in the way they wanted to you would need to either stop or restrict player input at some point. Comparing it to a game that is intentionally vague and dialogueless doesn’t make much sense. There’s a place for both types of stories, and there’s a place for both types of games.
Been watching Aris play through this game and his commentary is great. He just got to playing as Abby… Abs.
Undertale tells it’s story like any standard turn based RPG. All it has going for it is a meta narrative which I personally find overrated.
Fair point. I guess I’m trying to say I’m tired of video games trying to be movies. It doesn’t work for me anymore, I like video games cause I get to play them. But I’m comparing apple to oranges.
I like that stuff🤷🏻♀️ The games mechanics and gameplay choices directly effect the story. The way you play shapes the narrative.
I was just hoping this game would try something like that. Different story paths depending on actions you take and decisions you make as a player.
We have a medium with limits that haven’t been realized. I was just hoping it would try something new.
That sound entertaining as fuck.
I don’t know why you’d expect a game that is specifically trying to be cinematic to not be cinematic. I can understand liking other types of storytelling, it’s literally just a matter of taste, but I don’t understand being upset with the presentation of the story of the game when it’s just being what it was supposed to be.
Like, the story doesn’t work with multiple paths because you’re not supposed to be playing as yourself. You’re just controlling the character on THEIR journey. But there are plenty of games that do want you to self insert and/or at least do have divergent stories. The existence of either doesn’t mean the opposite side doesn’t deserve to also exist.
Cutscenes aren’t played out they’re just a way to tell a story that you don’t like, which is understandable.
I’m not upset, it was just me talking shit on the internet. I was a huge fan of the first game. But at this stage in my life, I don’t have the time or patience for a 30 hour, narrative driven game where I’m not actually playing for a decent chunk of it.
My tastes and preferences have changed, and I wanted the games I love to change to my liking
But I’m not by any means upset, just sparking some conversation with a hot take
Yeah I mean, like I said it’s understandable to want a different type of story telling experience. I just don’t think this is the type of series to look for that in.
When I’m playing a game, whether I’m playing or watching a cutscene(as long as it’s interesting) I just consider all of that to be “enjoying the game.” I don’t really understand why people separate it in their minds honestly.
