The KOFXI Thread Version III-EVO World Team Tournament: Team Juarez v. Cali v. Japan!

Thanks to both of you, but who else gets a boost in the ratings from their LDM? So far I see that K’ and Duo do.

I intend to learn the game for myself but the sheer number of characters in a bit overwhelming.

Characters I’m considering now:

Vanessa - favorite character, though she doesn’t need a place on every team
Kyo
K’
Ralf
Clark
Ryo
Shen Woo
Tizoc
Mary
Eiji
Adelheid
Athena
B. Jenet
Oswald

Which are recommended as leaders? Which work well together?

Athena (L) is better than Athena regular…Ryo (L) is useful certainly…Clark (L)…

Ralf (L) as I am going to show people at MWC casuals surely…easy and does really good damage… Kyo even has good tricks as an (L) I’ve learnt thanks to playing Kane…

Good leaders are K’/Oz/Ryo(stun combo). The others I barely know enough about. Something to consider: You don’t want a team that all suffers from the same weakness.

Shen Woo like many have said is a meter hog. Ryo,Kyo,Ralf,K,Oswald,Eiji work great with a lot of people to me. Clark is pretty good too. Isn’t Jenet corner dependant? Or is that in Garou mainly…

This is just the sort of info I need.

So who can really take advantage of being partnered with Ryo (L)?
And if I absolutely have to use Vanessa… what the hell do I do with her?

Well I also use shen as a leader and he works really nice there since he spends the meter that my other characters dont need to use and even if I cant connect his LDM I still can use the meter for his punch super and headbutt super or something like that

I agree with you DG, Duolon as a leader is scary, the most little mistake and you eat a 95% (probably 100%) damage combo. and he is even more scary if hes teamed up with characters with huge priority that can QS into his LDM (duck comes to my mind…)

Maybe a good leader for you will be Clark, hes not hard to use and is really good. teamed with maybe Kyo and Oswald or Eiji.

EDIT: ok youre gonna use ryo…oswald works well because after the stun you can go for a Ace combo that will REALLY hurt your opp.

Someone who operates well without meter for sure. And someone who hits hard. Any batteries you have in mind? IMO Oz works well. Oz is great for QS combos especially since everyone who plays Ryo learns QS combos to LDM. Eiji is good too. Especially since his projectiles come in handy against Kula and Gato.

Do not pair Shen with Ryo if Ryo is L. Shen eats meter for damage.

Eiji, Oswald and Ryo (L) sounds fine

I’ll start learning this team, though I may switch out Eiji for Kyo. I didn’t expect to like him so much because I’m absolutely sick of Iori from playing too much CvS2. He feels completely different though.

So where is Vanessa most useful?

Eiji >>> Kyo

Vanessa is a good battery

The two best leaders on that list are without doubt Oswald and Adel. Oswald works well with just about anybody while Adel works with characters who do good stun on point.

You do NOT use Adel to QS into LDMs. The whole point with Adel is to QS into him for high stun combos. With Maxima, you can even stun someone with a normal stun bar in a single quick shift (Maxima: j.C> s.D> f+A> qcf+C> qcf+C> QS Adel> Adel: j.D> d.B> f+B> qcf+D). Even without Maxima, most QS comboes ending with Adel will leave the opponent 1 crouch B away from being stunned. Then once they’re stunned, you hit them with an uncomboed LDM, because his LDM does waaaaaay more damage when uncomboed (does not damage scale unless comboed into).

Outside of combo’s Adel’s LDM is the best LDM in the game bar none. Fast, damaging, invincible and safe (unless you start it the corner, point blank, and get blocked). This is only if you use the version of the LDM where Rose comes out. The version without Rose does not have lower body invulnerability, but there’s no reason to use it that version, so yeah.

Mary gets honourable mention because her LDM is unblockable and unjumpable against incoming characters. Its a bug of course, but one that’s generally tourney legal, unlike Oswald’s.

Ryo as leader works very well with Oswald for two reason:

  1. Ryo (L) + Oswald have the easiest, most practical 100% combo in the game. Ryo: j.D> s.C> LDM (Opponent Dizzy)> Run against opponent till he’s against the wall> j.D> s.C> f+A> QS Oswald> Oswald: j.C> df+A> qcf+B> qcf+A> qcf+B> qcf+E.

  2. Oswald sets up Ryo’s LDM very well. Besides all the normal QS stuff, there’s also the threat of QS morphthroughs. When your opponent blocks an Oswald qcb+C, you can QS in with Ryo, and decide if you want to land in front or behind him. If you want to land in front, simply to a jump attack. If you want to land behind, don’t do anything. This makes a VERY evil guessing game, since Oswald: qcb+C (blocked)> QS Ryo> Ryo: morph through to other side> d.B> d.C> LDM is almost certain to connect, even against the best players.

All that said, I still prefer Oswald as leader when using Oswald and Ryo in the same team, because Oswald’s LDM is just waaay more flexible. (Can land it in free juggle situations, doesn’t have to worry about the opponent saving shifting his LDM, in 1 on 1 situations Oswald is a lot more effective as leader while Ryo doesn’t need to be leader to shine).

^ very interesting stuff. Who does great stun damage besides Adel and Maxima?

Off the top of my head, so bear with me if there are some mistakes:

You actually have 2 main types of ‘stunners’- 1) characters who do good stun when starting a combo, and 2) characters who do good stun ending a combo. Some characters are good at both (Oswald, Gai and Elizabeth mainly).

The best starter in the game is Maxima not just because he does good stun, but also because he allows the person coming in to come in deep. Other good starters would be:

  • Oswald: j.C> s.D> df+A> qcb+C> QS (df+A does more stun than f+A. It often makes the difference between no stun and stun)
  • Gai: j.D (his j.B is his best jump in attack in terms of priority but j.D does more stun)> s.D> f+D> f> b> f> QS
  • Elizabeth: j.D> s.C (2 hit)> f+B> f+A> QS (f+A misses against some crouchers, in which case just do a 2 hit s.C> f+B)

The best ‘ending’ QS comboers in the game are Adel and Hayate, which is fair considering both are very easily stunned. Oswald and Gai being the bastards they are stun very well coming in and out of QSes.

  • Adel: (QS into Adel) j.D> d.B (1 or 2 times depending on set up)> f+B> qcf+D
  • Hayate: (QS into Hayate midscreen) j.D> s.D> qcb+K> qcb+ K (whiff)> Opponent flies past Hayate> close s.D
Alternatively (QS into Hayate in the corner or mid-screen with Maxima or Malin) j.D> c.B> s.D> qcb+K> qcb+K> s.D
  • Oswald: (QS into Oswald) j.C or j.D (D is better for mid screen but misses crouchers)>s.D> df+A> qcb+C> qcf+A> qcb+B
  • Gai: (QS into Gai) j.D> s.D> f+B> f> b> f> d

Lots of other characters can be used to do double QS dizzy combos just doing their bread and butter comboes. Some examples:

  • Silber and Ryo: s.D> s.C> f+A> QS
  • Shen: s.D> s.C> f+B> qcf+P> QS
  • Duck: j.D> d.A X2 (3 times if cross up)> s.B> f+C> QS
  • Gato: j.D> s.C> qcf+C> QS
  • Malin: j.C> s.C> f+B> qcb+B (2 hits)> QS

Adel and Hayate coming in from most characters after 1 QS will normally leave an opponent within 1-2 hits short of a stun.

Edit:
Minor Edit to Eliz and Gai’s comboes

Hmm, I can see it’s going to be hard not putting Oswald in every team.

Leader Beni is good.
I think Genei-Ash is only available through him being Leader?
Duo-Lon.

There are tons of really good leaders, but yeah. Most people use Gato.

I switch it up between Gato and Beni depending on who else is in the marching order.

Yeah. Just like Genei Duo and Shen. LDM only.

AcidicEnema: Where the hell have you been?
You should post more.

Hell in casuals now I even use Beni (L) and I got a sick ass deadly combo with him and Kyo in the corner…

Yeah Genei Ash is only available with Ash Leader, but Ash Leader and Duo Lon Leader aint even close to the same…Duo Lon (L) is farrrrrrrrr deadlier…

-Dark Geese

I use Beni(L)/Yuri/Gato usually.

I use to be heavy on Gato(L) but I’m trying to stray away from it.

I plan on switching out Yuri too for Iori. I just seem more comfortable with him no that I got scum gale mix ups down.

I want to learn one other character like Maxima or Kyo. But iunno. I actually have a pretty decent Ozzy. He just doesn’t seem to flow with the rest of the characters I use (to me any how)

Who knows. I have till evo to figure out a team I guess (and know how to use it.)

Yeah about Duo Lon (L) hes very scary…a Master Duo Lon (L) player will make you pay for not having Save Shift/being on your last character…I make you choose a side to block and if you guess wrong you lose 100% of your health!!!

My team of Kula-Gato and Duo Lon(L) give Duo Lon all the meter he needs for his LDM since they are both excellent at battery and are great as stand alone fighters…thus when Duo Lon (L) comes in they start praying to get two meters for Save Shift or that they dont screw up…because a Duo Lon (L) master as I said will make you pay… more than ANY Gato (L) master could EVER do…

A Duo Lon (L) master will make you pay for Blocking even…or even jumping…

-Dark Geese

yeah indeed man…Ive been working on some fun teams with Duo as leader, and I didnt know it but, with lori, you can do Scum gale, far.C, aoi hana (1st hit only) QS to Duolon and…you already know. Its an unblockable 100% combo for gods sake!! very good stuff

I want to learn Duo Lon(L) but I’m wondering who to give a spot up for him… Or maybe I should do a secondary team.
