mh, try to change your QS jump-in attack, some are perfect for QS than other (the mose effective are the 45 deegre atk, or similar… like shen D).

So yeah, I saw this @ work for $10, so I picked it up. I have never really played an SNK game before, just Capcom games and some VF/Tekken. Any easy/starter characters to learn the game with? This game feels so weird. :\
Good beginner characters:
Terry, K’, Shen Woo, Ryo, Eiji, Kula, Yuri, and Kyo. Iori is also the perennial beginner’s favorite but he’s kinda weak in this game.
Learning to hyperhop (fast long jump that is low to the ground) should be one of your first priorities.
Game is basically a lot of pokes and jumping until you can land your standard combo. Combos usually go from:
Jump-In–> Close standing normal --> Command Attack --> Special/Super/Special Super Canceled into Super
Learn your character’s best air pokes and what normals they can cancel/link from.
After that, you can become familar with their specific Super/Dream Cancels and how to use them.
Then down the line, you can start thinking about how to build a team…including finding characters with a good synergy and Quickshifts that work together.
I’ll try to get a hold of him whenever I can…right now I gotta get ready for MWC so it may have to be when I get back…

Which are ONLY worth picking as leaders? I ask because some characters (Ryo, Duo Lon) I see either as leaders or not at all.

What are some general pointers in team formation? Is there a resource that points out which characters work together well? I see team suggestions scattered around (ex: earlier someone mentioned Ryo and Oswald being very compatible) but is there anything resembling a comprehensive resource on this subject?

ok but, for the 1st 2 it actually depends on you…for example I could tell you that Duolon is only worth as a leader (i play him as leader) but there might be other who might use him as a battery…so it depends
3-. Gato…kula, oswald, eiji, duck, kyo, lori, kim, maxima…it depends too but those are the best I can think of.
4-. Oswald is the best QS ender…hayate is good too. Eiji is one of the worst enders (because he is too damn limited…but is a fantastic battery)
I have a bit of an aversion to top tiers (Gato is definitely out… for now), but I just might make an exception for Oswald. Thanks for the #3 and 4 answers.
On the matter of leaders… I’ve heard many times that there are only a handful of good leaders in the game. Is there a consensus on this? I know some choose unconventional leaders (you certainly are with Shen Woo) and eventually I’ll try to explore these, but for now I just need a general list of good leaders.
I know #2 may be hard to answer. There are some (Elizabeth) that I know this is true for, others (Ryo) I’m not sure about. I’m just curious. Opinions will do.
My main team is K’(L)/Oz/Kyo Kyo doesn’t need his LDM and Oz has range and Ace combos so for me, LDM goes to K’. So my layout is either Kyo or Oz 1st and K’ last. Most people put their leader last because the other two are building meter in case the L needs it. gato and Kula are so stupid you can put them anywhere.
Good batteries IMO are Kyo, Kula, Gato, Oswald, Ralf. There’s a few I’m forgetting. Duo Lon you see as L because like K’ he’s better with it than without.
Its not all about Gato…you gotta think outside the box with Gato now and days because everyone plays him…Duo Lon can be a good battery but he shoots to A Class when hes Leader because when you add a Double Palm combo after his LDM on certain people or go into quickshift etc or many other factors its certain death…on some people I can kill them with a full health with just ONE Leader and a quickshift…
(Qsing into Ralf for example=death…)
Dont try to just read the forums and go off what people say…learn the game for yourself because your style may differ from others…I mean after all do you wanna be like everyone else and use Gato Leader??
Its getting harder and harder to hit people with Gato’s LDM lately if they are good at the game…
My main team is Kula-Gato-Duo Lon(L) I only use Kula-Duo Lon-Gato (L) if I think I can pull some shit on them because my Gato has some wild tricks up his sleeve now and days I can pull to land that Leader that most people around here arent use to seeing… :smokin:
Also Duo Lon is solid without Leader but hes A MONSTER with…In the right hands people will fear Duo Lon(L) WAYYYYYYYY MORE than Gato (L). If you havent played someone like this you ain’t playing the right person…

Yeah I yawn when I see Gato (L)…I dont even respect Gato (L) anymore…I see one and I think “typical copycat player”…
I fear Duo Lon (L) about 20x more than Gato (L) …and I am sure everyone here knows why…lol.
