The KOF Cup 2011 with Hummer from Japan in Mexico/Mexico vs. Japan Discussion thread

Plus to take it a step further in regards to “getting good”…

Again getting good is a connotation- In other words it means different things to different people.

My definition of being a Top Player may be completely different than say Johnny Doughnuts definition of being Good. My definition of being a Top Player is being able to face any of the top players around the world and still be able to beat them, where Johnny Doughnuts definition of being a Good player is just being able to play with his local good or top players.

To go even further with my definition of a true Top Player, since my frame of reference is THE WORLD, or international, just being a top player in one country means nothing…be it Mexico or what have you, to me it means nothing!

What happens if you take top players from every country and put them all in one tournament? Then some so called top players become AVERAGE (IF NOT BELOW AVERAGE!)!!!

You can see this with some of these international Mexico vs. Japan tournaments! Top players in their countries are NOT TOP PLAYERS IN SOME OTHER COUNTRIES!

Thus to me it’s all about International Top Players, players that can go to Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Japan etc. and STILL BE TOP PLAYERS…THOSE ARE TOP PLAYERS TO ME.

So again different connotations play heavily into this thing. Some people are fine with just being able to hang with the locals or play with the high level competition around them.

But some people like me, simply are not okay with that. We want it all, and are patient enough to understand that it is a process, and you must learn as much as you can from as many different sources, regions, countries and areas as possible to achieve this!

Question:

How is Kula so good? Does he travel a lot to many different places, regions and countries? If he doesn’t how does he become so accustomed to different play styles without traveling? If he does travel where does he go to check out new play styles and strategies?

I’m all for traveling to testing your skill against different kinds of players but I do believe players need to understand the game and yourself as a player before you waste your time and money going to some foreign place just to get your ass kicked. Yeah, Justin Wong advocates traveling to level up, but what good would that do if you don’t know how to play the game, don’t have anyone to play with around you immediately to be able to recognize those different styles?

To me, it’s sort of like going to war without going to bootcamp first.

  1. Kula has a various amount of playstyles around him and has at least 8-9 years worth of experience playing these people, so he doesn’t need to travel as much, certainly not in 2002 etc. Take someone like myself and Mr. KOF, and in Mexico in Kula’s area for example, there are about 30 players of me or Mr. KOF’s skill level at the very least. So he gets to see a variety of skill level in Mexico because people play a variety of different styles (You’ve got Kensou, Ramon, Angel, Choi, Yamazaki, May Lee,Whip, Athena, Maxima, Joe, Terry, Andy, Ralf, Iori, Kusanagi, Kyo, Benimaru, Clark, Kim, Kula, Billy, Eiji, Krauser, Blue Mary, O. Yashiro, O. Chris, Saisyu, Geese, Heidern, Vanessa, Seth, Kyo, Duo Lon Leader, Oswald, Shingo, Elizabeth, Daimon: all kinds of players in Mexico that practically cover every character at a HIGH level). Practically every character in KOF is covered at a high level by someone in Mexico. Bart used to play Terry as his main character back in the day! Skato used to main Orochi Yashiro and Benimaru back in the day! Khannibal would main Maxima back in the day, used Joe, Hugo uses Andy, Benimaru, Terry, Joe!

Thus due to this he knows how to fight almost every character in the game at a high level because there are pretty much high level players of those characters in Mexico! Kula knows that also by travelling with me he will become that much stronger, he wants to rule the world, he has always wanted to do this, and I am going to give him this chance! If I am going to get that much stronger by travelling, imagine how much stronger Kula is going to become by travelling as well!

  1. I agree 100%, can’t go to war unless you have gone through MARINE BOOT CAMP…not just any regular boot camp I say (Not Army, Not Navy, Not Air Force, MARINE, SO YOU ARE PREPARED TO DO WHAT ARMY, NAVY AND AIR FORCE CAN DO BY YOURSELF!!!), but you wanna go through the fiercest most demanding boot camp you can handle if you wanna “go to war.” Trying to take shortcuts is only gonna get you killed…remember that people…same thing in tournaments and in regards to learning KOF, only watching match videos jockriding what people like me, AI, Japan or even now Mexico does ONLY is just going to get you killed in a high level international tournament.

this is really easily dealt with. when you got someone like sako who can excel at all characters and try them all and fight with you, you wont need to travel. kof 02 has soo many characters, tha there are jpn players that are no using some characters and dont know how to deal with them. if all the characters are represented at the highest level, you dont need to travel. but when the best lets say angel is in somalia, than to learn those skills the quickest way would be to play that person and learn from him/her. as long as you dont play that person and you meet him in a tourney youll get fucked. or at least a big possibility. not soo much a problem when you got all characters represented in a small area. for instance in china, all you have to do to learn a character in 98 is play 1 person, not travel to other citeis or countries, just play dakou and your good to go.

edit: simply put, you only need 1 opponent that can use all the charactersa at the highest level and play that person to become good. i used to play all the characters in og 98 at high level, half the cast at the highest level. my lil bros did the same same, especially the oldest one of the twins (from 92 to 99 we used to play fighters almost daily, hours a day 2 player vs). when i visited arcades with kof back in the days, wether it be in holland or in turkey, germany, france or belgium i beat people in the kofs i was good at, namely 97 and 98. in 1999 and 2001 in turkey i had people lining up in 3 arcades i went to to beat me (1 arcade in 97, 2 arcades in 98) and i didnt lose against a single opponent. the smallest was maybe against 20 to 25 people in 97, the bigger arcade in alanya i faced at leas 30 to 36 people in 98 and fought some of them multiple times. im not trying to brag, just trying to make a point.

in 02 and 02um this might be harder, because the game features more characters that handle completely different to other characters (think gai in 11), so to learn certain characters (anhel) you will need to invest more time to do that. and i you havent and you face a high level anhelplayer he might just ocv your entire team. in 98 all the characters where from previous games and most of them where easily figured out. in 02 there are characters that are not so easily figured out and need to be experimented with. but that doesnt mean that 1 person cant do this (though it will take a lot of time), and if you happen to know such a person you wont need to travel imo. you actually proved this point with kula. but in 02um there might be character not known i mexico that kula might have a hard time with (this wasnt soo much the deal back in 97/98 imo).

i did get owned in sf3si and mvc btw, but i wasnt playing these games back then (still dont play them, but i at least know how to play sf3 now).

This would actually work, if someone can gain access to someone that can play these characters at the absolute highest level. If not then they have to take what they get and someone that at least knows how to play these characters at an intermediate level that would still give them enough exposure to deal with someone else if they play those characters.

Because believe it or not, finding a Kula or Dakou is rare…it takes years and years to master ONE Character alone, let alone the whole cast…so Kula in 2002=Dakou in 98…but that’s rare to find!!!

I mean look at me, I have to leave the USA to find Kula lol.

for people whove been playing kof since it came out (like me), and who have kept on practicing their games till now (not like me) it aint that hard imo. we used to play the hottest game of each year (ss2, ff3, kof95, rb, kof 97 & lb, rb2 & kof98&lb2) in their respective years for hours a day every day. when you play like that, you will learn your character/s. its just how much time you wanna spend on it. i had the luck of having a few competitors at my level who also used the entire cast that i used to play for hours a day. add the fact that we where always skilled in fighters to beging with, and its not that hard imo.

now its harder though, not having fought competivelly for 10 years must have had its toll. something the japanese players and mexicans and chinese dont have to deal with. they have always had the scene and still got the scene to practice and play with. arcades been dead here for 10 years, just as long as ive stopped gaming seriously. this new age with turtle fighters 4’s and online play is nice and all, but theres nothing like the arcade experience imo. something most kids lack nowadays cause it aint like that anymore. anybody my age should be able to understand what i mean (30 ish, from 26 to 46 should all be in tha category).

i feel dakou and kula are really lucky to find themselves in an envirement where they always have people to play against and grow with.

Agreed.

Here is the next video Part IX of the North vs. South 5v5 showing what I call “Alternate Activation” on the Part of Kula:

There are like two more videos left of the North vs. South and then you will see the Official Hummer Interview.

Also guys I am gonna briefly talk about the FOURTH CHAPTER OF MEXICO VS. JAPAN, to which I will make another thread here (or stay with the same one and edit it) that seems to be coming in Puebla, Mexico instead of The Bracket tournament.

We are very close to securing CAP the #1 13 player in Japan, #3 in 2002, and #3 in 2002 UM to coming to South Mexico for this GAME OF DEATH 2011 tournament (ALREADY HAVE COMBOS WORKING ON THE LOGO!), so this is again far from over but Chapter IV will branch into more games than just 2002 since he does play those other games!

We could have CAP, we will have No. 17, we could if possible have SHIMA and Tomo…which are all top A-Cho players in 13 if somehow we can secure all of them.

If not again, having CAP and No. 17 with a Japanese stick as well as Mr. KOF in South Mexico is perfectly fine with me, an excellent 4TH CHAPTER to Mexico vs. Japan.

More to come on this in my HalfTime Show Update.

I’m not trying to defend any sides, but, when will Kula and one or two more strong Mexican players go to Japan (or other Asia country)? That way if Kula and his crew beat the asians on their territory then we can pretty much set in stone that Mexico>Japan in OG2k2. Until that all we know so far is that the best players from Mexico are stronger than Japan’s (note that Japan is not considered the best country in 2k2) #10 or more players (according to Hummer he says he’s #10 right? Bata is worse than him probably, no offense to you Bata if you are reading this).

DG I have an idea for you: if you menage to start a campaign to raise funds to a trully worldwide ogKOF2k2 contest it would be awesome. That way we could gather the strongest players of each well know country in ogKOF2k2 such as Peru, Brasil, Taiwan, Paquistan, Japan, Korea, Mexico, etc and make an orgasmic Worldwide KOF2k2 Event.

5 players from each of these country, rules to be discussed later when (or if) the project goes on. I myself alone would donate like $100 bucks to something like that, and I know many other ppl who would donate as well.

Try to do it, at least consider the idea.

I agree with you 100%, for now all we know is that Mexican players are stronger than the #30 and #10 best player in Japan.

After Chapter 4 we will see how things turn out in regards to the #3 player in 2002 in Japan, #1 in 13, and #3 in 2002UM and SBO Qualifer in 98UM.

I will make a separate thread to promote CHAPTER IV.

In regards to raising funds, I will try, but I saw that idea failed at Cyberfanatix. Freeman had tried to do that to help run Mexico vs. Peru, Mexico vs. Brazil, and everything else, trying to bring Buchecha and Salado when they were in their prime, but he could never raise enough money to do anything!!!

I will certainly consider it and mention it in my Half Time Show Update.

Also we are planning for Kula to go to Japan for Duelling the KOF but pushing it back to November so we can attend.

thats awesome news man.

and japan aint always the best in games, like i said and like most people should understand (it aint that fucking hard) the best player can be a single player from a country that doesnt even play kof. why would it have to be a japanese? in fact in the kof that matters the most in my eyes the japanese dont even stand a chance. in 98 korea and especially china RAPES japan.

also peruvians look at mexicans like lesser minorites? thats wack. especially considering peru got the best coca leaves in the world and the shit gets fabricated in bolivia (they cant even do that themselves). how are they higher on a plane than the mexicans, racism at its finest. not game related btw as seen.

also dg, you seem to be hinting theres good 13 players in mexico (theres still a 13 cab the, right?). give me some vids man if you can. anything 13 on a high level is good to see imo (unless its raiden, k, lizzy & kula, the character not the player ofcourse).

  1. Hummer told me Sunday morning (of this tournament) that the Taiwanese also are better than the Japanese in 98UM. Also CAP was an SBO Qualifier in 98UM, and CAP and KYAPPU ARE THE SAME PERSON PEOPLE. So we will have everything covered with CAP:

A. KOF 13
B. KOF 2002
C. KOF 2002 UM
D. KOF 98UM

  1. Yes there is a war between the Peruvians and Mexicans, hence again Mexico vs. Peru in August will either exacerbate this war, or it will pour some water on it and it will cool down. I mean again people compare the responses from JuareZ WarZone compared to this tournament, if people are talking it’s more than likely in another language or another section, but not here!! People finally are waking up to Emil’s BS!!!

  2. Did you see the Puebla, Mexico tournament with No. 17 from March before The KOF Cup? I have it on my youtube channel…

you mean kof 13 play? ive seen a batch wit mexican play. it might have been that one, dont remember exactly.

Yessir, it had No. 17 from Japan and his interview was part of that batch.

Here is Part I of the North vs. South Final:

skato go hard

Enough talk about Emil and get back on topic now. I let it slide for a bit but that’s enough. Any more Emil flame bait/talk will result in infractions. End of story.

The end of the North vs. South:
