Instead of simply yelling at you for bad reasons, I’ll give you an actual answer.
What you’re seeing is not a case of players just being bad, but that standing light attacks are not as effective as anti-air in XII. In general, their hit boxes have been reduced to make them less effective for catching low jumps at middle range. There are only a handful of anti-air light attacks that work like they used to, like Benimaru and Kim’s standing B. Standing A’s are rarely effective at stopping low jumps from any position that isn’t point blank range.
I think these changes were largely made to compensate for the new b + C + D counters, the addition of new f + HP command moves (which often act as low jump deterrents) and the inclusion of high damage anti-air counter-hit combos (which are more damaging than in previous KOF games). In my opinion, though, the trade off wasn’t worth it. There needs to be some sort of easy mode low risk solution to stopping low jumps, as the game sometimes degenerates to sloppy attacking.
This is a pretty interesting comment u brought up. If this does hold true and there’s a sudden surge of popularity for KOFXII, well that would just be pretty flippin sweet.
Here is why standing A’s are not as effective anymore, you can stuff a standing A with an early jump in C or D and dizzy (stunt) your opponents and punish them or fake the jump in and punish the A with a CC. The “counter” to a standing A anti-air is not just a low sweep anymore this aint fucking '98 get that shit in your head already. That being said standing A still works is just not safe as before. C and D don’t clash with A and B.
This is not rocket science it was said from day one this KOF is totally different than previous titles. Now this individuals who have NOT played the game but think they know the game and want to criticize us just because they’ve played KOF since '94 need to STFU and stop posting their garbage strategies.

[*]Punishing hops is a bit harder now. Weak attack hitboxes aren’t as dominant VS hops, for reasons that are hard to explain.
[*]f+C attacks can he used to stop hops at the proper ranges.
[*]Specials aren’t all THAT good at stopping hops.
[*]The weakening of most anti-hope measures, seems to be attributed to the strengthening of the overall universal defensive/offensive options.

So it sounds like hops can be used more agressively now, and also that not doing the right counter action, makes you bait for attakcs that focus around new systems (Such as Counter Hit stagger, or CCs).
That actually sounds pretty nice, in some ways. Many of KoF XII’s detractors try and make the game sound like it’s a sloppy mess, but reading you guy’s thoughts on why each thing was done, and your deeper analysis of the systems, plus the overall gameplay videos, makes it feel much deeper, and better put together, than initial impressions.
Oh, and that got me thinking: If someone were anti-hop-poke crazy for whatever reason, could you clash with the poke in hop, and then “air jump” out of clash, to continue pressure/score a knockdown? Or is it hard/impossible to actually pull off such a thing?
And the thing about Japan wanting to get into KoFXII after SBO… that’s very good to hear! So it sounds like many big Japanese players might still be “Checking out” the game, rather than already having passed final judgement on it.
Well only clashes can happen from Strong attacks, so if they’re trying to poke a hop with an A or B, C and D has more priority and will either hit or they trade in the hopper’s advantage.
Ahhh, ok, I was trying to remember if weak attacks could clash; Memories from the really old “everythingClashesLOL!” pre-release stuff, blured the facts in my mind.
No you can’t. Only if the hitboxes for jump C’s and D’s come out in the first frame and the stun is SOOO high that they will still be in hitstun by the time you land, which is not the case. If you are actually using them properly, your jump attack won’t even come out even if done on the first frame of leaving the ground, and you won’t even get close to the apex of your jump.
Fake the jumpin? You mean, actually do a CC instead of jump? Then yes that works, at pointblank range. Too bad I see very little usage of staggers.
None of you guys(I’m talking KForce and your mexican crew) even used these kinds of anti-airs in 98 or 2k2 anyway and it shows since from your above comments you don’t even know how they are supposed to be used.
Please DO NOT support this youtube user, he blatantly steals all of my friend’s Arcade Infinity’s HD direct feeds, and all of my personal 30+ videos that I put up and uploads them as his own.
I have already complained to him personally to please remove his videos (this one in particular has the arcade infinity insignia on the video)
I don’t know…I upload everything from gamechariot’s arcade even with the logo at the bottom, not to claim it as my own but to spread the existence of these videos, especially since they take down their videos every week or two for new ones. Maybe he thinks they are good matches and doesn’t even know they were already uploaded by ArcadeInfinity.
Now if he outright ignores your requests to take them down, then I guess that’s a problem.
wow that comment was pretty weak. cause emil aint played the game he cant comment on it? theres a big possibilety that hed probably fuck most of you guys up playing the game on its first day. yeah im one of those since 94 players. theres a smaller difference between kof XII and 98 then there is between 94 and 98. adjusting to XII seems shit easy.
We don’t post crappy matches. Crappy matches in the sense of me just train wrecking my opponent. I abuse the staggers every single time i see them. And that’s EVERY single time. If you actually played against me you’d see that. Anyone who’s played against me knows it.
-Why should anyone take any advice from you?
You play fighting games on a KEYBOARD. You don’t play casuals, you don’t go to tournaments, and you don’t play with anyone else. What kind of fighting game experience could you possibly have with only keyboard play? Oh that’s right fighting experience on a keyboard! duh! I’m sure you’re skilled on the keyboard. But where is the relevance in that.
You know what i don’t even know where i’m going with this anymore. All i got to say is… keyboard… WOW.
This is 2009, are we still really shit talking about what people playing fighters on still? This isn’t like controller vs mouse/keyboard in FPS, you can have good competition on kawaks/2df/ggpo. Granted certain games don’t offer that much in terms of real competition or you just can’t play them on your computer, but is it really fair to say you’d rather belittle someone’s opinion before thinking about it?
P.S. I’m not taking Emil’s side, I’m just saying. I play fighting games on PC with a keyboard sometimes even though I have the TE stick right beside my monitor. If I had fair and logical advice (not saying Emil has or doesn’t have since honestly, I don’t know fuck about KOF, let alone KOF12 =]), you wouldn’t listen to me because my reputation is based on my experience tapping microsoft plastic instead of sanwa buttons? You could just be nice to others without attacking everyone who’s too lazy to plug in a Stick/Controller, just saying =]
P.S.S. Sometimes trainwrecks are fun to watch, a.k.a. some of those Yokohama videos!
