I dont necessarily believe that AG is game-breaking but technically it is still a glitch. A glitch is a glitch wheter good or bad. If you need a crutch, then you are not a good player.
a glitch is not a crutch, or at the very least AG is not
a glitch isn’t inherently bad because it’s a glitch
are combos bad?
buffering?
the list goes on
It is still stupid to even attempt to rank. Until the day were there is a global tournament with fair representation of each country, can we talk about ranking countries. For now lets drop the country nuthugging and move on.
Quote the exact sentence where I say or imply it’s game breaking.
I say it’s stupid, illogical and penalizes throws for no valid reason. Throw invincibility is already long enough in KOF. There are not broke or retardedly powerful grapplers in 2k2 (or 98), and the ones that are good aren’t good because their throws are so incredibly powerful that removing alternate guard would make them overpowered. Normal throws do shit damage and can be easily teched, and most can be recovery rolled.
So, please tell me why leaving this glitch makes any sense.
Mexico,Brazil then asia I’d say. I don’t really know what people see from China/japan/korea that would give the impression that they are the best.
Why are people trying to rank countries based on speculation? Until there’s a truly world-wide KOF tournament this is an absolutely pointless discussion.
yeah guys
no one cares

interesting that there are 2 pairs of characters around Nameless…
Mr. Karate Ryo and NGBC Robert maybe?
I was just correcting some popular misconceptions, anyhow on to more 02 discussion.
Because players still get thrown anyway? Low/high level. Doesn’t matter. Players still get thrown. I would see your point if you just can’t get thrown at all but that’s not true is it?
When you play KOF vs others you never get thrown? You never throw anyone? Did you even forget that you can mess with an opponents ability to alt guard?
So what do players do about alt guard? Let’s watch it in action:

You see how Clark creates a situation that doesn’t cause alt guard to work? Players have found a way around it. Alt guard isn’t an absolute power. If it was then I would agree with you.
It still makes throws less powerful, and there’s no reason to leave it in. Glitches should be left in only if they are beneficial to the game (see also: Sim’s reversal teleport in STHD, unblockable projectiles in KOF 98UM). This is not a beneficial glitch in any way, so why should it stay in the game? Why would penalizing throws and turning throw attempts into silly high-low guessing games be considered beneficial to the game?
Daimon says hello.
Do you even know who 777 from Japan is? Or Dakou, Xiaohai, Ching Lung from China? These players were so damn good that they were even praised by some of the best players in Mexico and Brazil. You lack a lot of knowledge about the Japanese and Chinese players.
I’ll tell you another thing. Most of the top Mexican/Brazilian players do not even know what alternate guard is. Their gameplay plays without knowing that opponent can get out of their tick throws.
But tick throws already have a big guessing game fairly much in favor of the grappler.
Alternate guard should be taken out
China is the best in KOF
The end.
When has Daimon been good because of his grabs? Goro was top in '98 thanks to his arsenal of godly pokes / normals, his grabs didn’t make him the beast he is in that game.
Emil: this is not ST. Even without Alternate Guard, ticks aren’t very powerful.
There’s a few good ticks out there, but with runs and hops you don’t need ticks as much to land grabs, unlike in SF.
For example, one Maxima tick I’ve found to work on wakeup is jump straight up B, then grab. The blockstun is light enough to where it works like a SFII tick. Yes, it is counterable, but who expects gimmicky crap like that? It’s usually good to work once.
The grabs do tons of damage and set up really good wakeup game. Plus, Daimon has unblockables. In fact, check out a new match I uploaded of Ching Lung vs. 777, part 3. Look at how 777 comes back with Daimon.
They are, when coupled with doing close C’s instead of a throw. It makes people want to jump, and they will get hit by a combo isntead.
I know of the players you listed, but I don’t consider them in the same class as the mexico players. Besides not doing alternate guard isnt a immediate admission that there not"great" because Ive seen things from the mexico/brazil play style that are worlds ahead of the japs. The overall understanding behind the engine just doesnt compare, if you ever go down to mexico you will know what im talking about.
for 98, alternate guard makes the game better. for 2k2, idk maybe.
and wtf is so ‘silly’ about a high/low game? a high/low game is a hell of a lot harder and riskier to use than an attack/throw game.
that’s what I’m talking about
There are some wild beasts out in the wilderness of mexico that you don’t even know about, believe me.
Mexico sucks.
Go China!
