The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match Thread

That character

For the picture, I see what looks like Robert, Geese, and Marco?

Only if this gets a XBLA release, The game is cool and all (looks a bit MUGENish to me) but if it’s on only PS2 with NO online play it would truly be a waste.

'98: UM will be on XBLA and online playable, can you guess where most of will be? :karate:

I’ll be there, you and I will have our long awaited rematches from back when AKScrube, but for people to just drop 98 UM would just be a blow to the US SNK community.

Ok. About 98UM. I’ll still play it but 2002UM for me beats it by far. Even if 2002UM isn’'t as balanced.

Now honestly 2002UM kinda killed KOFXII for me. 2002UM has EVERYTHING I wanted. I’ll still play KOFXII when it drops but 2002UM has me a lot more hyped.

And people will still play 98UM even if 2002UM is better. The only KOFs that get shunned by the masses are KOF XI/MIRA/99/2000/2002/2003/NW. Not sure about 94-97.

People LOVE 98. Like it’s a drug. They’ll support that game to their graves.

how do you figure 2k2 UM beats 98 UM by far? other that pure roster preference and subsystems preference, what other reason could you use to state that one is better over the other?

yeah, I understand what you mean…people here play nothing but 98 or 2002. They say XI is not Kof…stupid fanboys

What I meant was even if 2002UM ends up being the better game people will still play 98UM.
I thought that was kinda obvious…

I can say I may have misread or misinterpreted your post, but what criteria would you go by in determining 2k2UM to be the better game over 98UM?

HOLY BACKGROUND CAMEOS, BATMAN!

  • Marco / Krushnood
  • Lee
  • Hotaru
  • 2 others I can’t recognize?

And HOORAY for O.Yashiro’s smoother standing animation being left in. Hopefully they did the same with O. Chris. And here’s hoping for EX Takuma (2k1 version).

Its the 2k2 version

Personally, apart from Jhun and stuff, I’m not too excited, but the main reason is because I hate 2k2’s system and how everyone is a sucky version of their 98/2k/etc, except Billy, Athena, etc

Well let’s see…
-A ton of characters everyone wants
-The ton of characters everyone wants is balanced.

So if the 2002UM roster is well balanced with everything else it has, 2002UM would be, TO ME, the better game.

The characters, artwork, backgrounds, music, stages and the roster is everything I wanted. So if the game is well balanced best believe 98UM will take a back seat to 2002UM for me.
I’m speaking for myself here.

Nameless needs WAY more frames of animation on certain things. This makes me realize how fluid a lot of K9999’s movements actually were. Stuff like Nameless’ CD attack, jumping punches, DP+P (I think)…ugh, just ugly. And BOO to the punch super being a pillar of bloodfire stuff. WHERE’S MY DOME OF PSYCHIC DEATH!!!

Above all, I want 2k2 UM to be balanced and fun without either needing to be sacrificed. I would like this game, as long as its good, to share in the spotlight in the US.

I’m pumped for '02UM but I know that ‘98UM will be on XBLA, that’s the one I’m trippin’ on right now.

Both games are cool but for me it’s about what I have access to and what others will be playing, I’m too old to keep doing all this importing and shit now

No but real talk, I’m sure I’m not the only person here that NEEDS online play nowadays to play 2D fighters.

If 2002UM is a good successful game I believe it will share the spotlight with 98UM. 2002UM will not kick out 98UM.

Unfortunately, I’m one of those guys that can’t play fighting games in my local area because of lack of competition. So I have to rely on netplay =P

New scans:

As long as 2002: UM plays at the same (crack) speed as the original 2002 (which the videos seem to suggest), I know I will not abandon '98: UM and Arrange XI (my favourite episode, due in no small part to the lowered execution requirements) for it.

Nonetheless, the enhanced presentation (the best-looking stages since 2000?), expanded roster (Heidern… what will his HSDM be?) and (presumed) added system options (I hope for a simple one/two/three Stock DM/SDM/HSDM mode, preferably with more workable HSDM commands) certainly have me intrigued.

 @ that first pic with orochi chris.
