"The King is back!" Sagat Video Thread

Lol everyone knew that match was going to be a disaster. Evil Ryu has sweet spots against Sagat where he can still play effective footsies, but be able to react to TS and TK’s. His cr.mk is a Sagat killer, and so his st.mk.

Bonchan spent the entire game in that left corner lol.

Bonchan will always do poorly against players that don’t respect Sagat, with this version of Sagat of course.

I do it very rarely, and mostly against Charge characters to ruin their flow.

The best time to AS with like a gimmick is when you know someone is going to focus your TS from full screen, sometimes you can catch them before the focus, or stop their dash after.

Cool stuff

Yeah, I recall seeing that in a couple of vids. Just never thought of using it to disrupt a dp. Also it seems very risky to pull off because the timing where u actually get it to disrupt the dp input is strict. Was thinking of using it online but oh well.

My “Total Sagat” video series has begun! I’ve only uploaded three very basic videos that will probably have nothing of interest if you’ve been playing Sagat for a while.

They are - Basic Combos and tricks, Execution Problems and Frame Traps.

Next up is - Footsies and Anti Airs ( I think this deserves it’s own video) and then possibly Option selects (not a lot really).

Then the match ups start rolling out.

Anyway, it’ll be good for your beginner to intermediate Sagat players and maybe the advanced guys might get some small tips here and there.

I stand corrected it…forgive my transgressions against thee oh great highland…i was wrong to say these series were akin to a unicorn. Thanks a lot…love ya man!..in a totally bro kinda way of course.

love the vids highland extremely helpfull just a quick question would you be doing the match up vids one character per episode or a whole bunch at a time?

I think it’s best that each character gets a vid, what do you think? I was thinking of sort of doing bunches though - like charge characters, zoning characters etc etc

I would bunch them up by type, just because of how many characters there are. But either way I’ll look forward to them. Good work.

I’ll bunch them by type, but I think each character probably needs their own video or at least a bunch of stuff explained. The only characters I’ll either not do or leave til last are probably grapplers like Gief/Hawk and Hugo. If anybody needs tips on those matches, you’re probably doing it wrong! Hakan though I think needs a vid, he’s different enough that he’s not a traditional fight and actually quite a sticky match for Gat.

Holy shit Highland, your voice is amazing!

Solid videos!

One thing I’d edit if you can, Counter Hit Crouch HP into Cr.MK xxTU

Also Counter hit forward lK can lead into Mash TU

Still love the vids though!

Ha ha, well at least people will listen! Even if they dont watch!

The combo video was hard, after it I realized I missed a couple of U2 juggles (and generally just neglected U2), then the fact that AS smashes armor probably should have been included. I think I’ll eventually make a Sagat “Gimmicks” video where I can put in all the little tricks we use but are not really easy to explain.

Man I watched Highlands chun li vid and then right after he made it private lol

he has a chun li vid? Im going to check it out…what’s this private nonsense we’re hearing about high? the people need to see this!

ha ha, I remembered a very important thing I missed ! So I took it off then re-jigged it. I’m going to make a new thread with the vids at Krimzns request, it’ll be easier to see them in one place.

This Sagat was pretty SALTY, ended up being booted from the lobby the 3rd time I entered lol

Hi guys.

Posted this on the critique my sagat thread but just reposting here in case this is the proper place to post critique vids. these are a couple of matches i played last weekend with a buddy of mine offline. let me know what you see that i could improve or avoid, etc.

Appreciate the input.

I’ll chime in soon bud, bit busy today. Can see a few weaknesses already I’ll do a full break down for you later, but for now

  • Far too many jumps, jumping is ok against Chun sometimes, but your jumps looked out of fear of position rather than a read.
  • Not enough shots at the right ranges - more shots
  • Tendency to get blown up when you are in a position of strength - remember if you are winning, let them make the mistakes
  • A touch loose on the TU use, but I’m ok with that, it’s a strong tool.

I’ll break it down better for you later.

Thanks a lot big guy…I gave you a shoutout on the other thread, but you had to come and see this one ! lol

I’ll say it again though…the primer helped immensely, and the staying crouched advice too.

I got this set 60-40 this time, while it has been traditionally the other way around.

looking forward to the tips.

Rewatching the vid, you are spot on when you mention the issue of jumping out of fear of position…its like im getting pushed back, walking forward is not really an option as the walkspeed is…well lets not get into that shall we?..positive thoughts… So i it’s either dash in and risk getting jumped in on and crossed up or jump where i feel i have a chance to intercept in the air.

Need to be more patient i guess.

Blocking dude, sometimes the best thing to do is nothing
