The Jojo's Bizzare Adventure Thread!

There are a few, another guy at my session wanted to play so that was definitely kool to hear. Just gotta get our names out there. I’m not going to be online much (again) due to having two jobs now. So i’ll rarely pop in here and there. Either way, gg’s to those who i got to play these last few weeks.

What settings do you use to practice on GGPO

Get a non-GGPO version of FBA (put it in a different directory, etc of course) and then get a cheats file.

Then you put a file named correctly (For the rom) with the .ini extention in your \Cheats subdir of FBA.
There’s al ist of cheats here - FBA Cheats - Stand Crash

All I get are debug errors (guru meditation lol) I pick and chose the codes I needed… as a matter of fact, I cant even edit my buttons.

What version of FBA are you using them with? I’ve been told that if you try to use those codes w/ the version that comes with GGPO (ggpofba) that it’ll crash.

You could also try asking (when people are around) in the GGPO Jojo’s lobby.

2 questions…

  1. In the tier list…why is Mariah considered the worst character in the game and in her own tier?

  2. What do you do against Hol Horse? (With mariah) Can’t land magnets, since he doesn’t have to come to you at all…your specials are virtually useless cause of how slow they are in comparison, it takes a lot of jumping and uses of the evade button to get in range and then when you do…he is no slouch up close. He can do that sand thing, shoot the glass into you, and do that demon hold thing as well.

Ill try using an older build and see what comes up

  1. Lack of options, low damage, most of her best stuff isn’t available until she has a few levels of magnetism. She has a fairly mediocre ability to really pressure vs. a cautious opponent, and lots of mid or higher tier characters have fairly strong, safe ways to get rid of plugs or cut the electric wire (Some don’t - young joseph has terrible options here for example). She’s a weird character though in that she becomes a (Fairly) more capable character if you can get those crucial levels of magnetism.

This also assumes you don’t use her kinda broken loops and such I assume, but maybe those just aren’t practical. She shouldn’t really be in her own category though, she’s about the same as Khan, and they’re just at the bottom.

  1. Not much - you’re a projectile character with some of the slowest startup projectiles in any fighting game fighting against a character wiht plenty of projectiles. Your only real advantage in that matchup in my mind is that as a non-stand character, you actually have a chance of doing chip damage (unfortunately he can do the same to you).

Learn to cancel a lot of mariah’s normals into other specials (including 4B into specials, or 5C/2B/etc on hit) will help her ‘slowness’. Avoid the distances that allow glass to set you up for unblockables (easier said than done) - if they’re close enough for you to be worried about glass being a mixup, they may (if you react well and are lucky) be in range to be hit. Your best bet there is to hit them to cancel the glass (smart hol will just block if they aren’t in air, willing to accept chip damage instead of risk) instead of blocking it. IF you avoid glass, you’re even - if you block or are hit, you’re already losing.

I wouldn’t ever tell someone to NOT play Mariah, but I will advocate always playing more than one character, if only for the variety and practice, rather than matchups.

If I can remember, I’ll try to find a build I ‘know’ works with those, fix the instructions on the stand crash page, and let you know.

FBA Shuffle w/ JJBA cheats

Here is a file that you might find very helpful…

the grail of goodness. thanks very much. now to practice everyone…

Thx Fahk for the advice and tips! I didn’t know you could cancel into her specials, that should give me more opportunities to whip them out. I feel comfortable with her against everyone but Hol Horse, Dio and Jotaro seem a bit more challenging…but very beatable. Of course I’m just speaking from what little experience I have. I really haven’t tried the other characters out much, but maybe I’ll start checking them out…at least to have someone against Hol Horse.

Just in case (since new players don’t catch this nuance), realize that like all passive stand chars, Mariah can also hit S in the air after doing a normal. It’s a high risk maneuver though - it can save you sometimes because it slows your fall/changes the arc slightly, but it can also leave you very very open.

Another thing to note is that in addition to many normals (including whiffs) being cancel-able, try this: note how short your level 0/level 1 magnetism wrap is (qcb+a/b/c), but then move into 5C distance of your opponent, and do a 5C->QCB cancel (hit or before active) and notice how the range is a bit tweaked.

Yo

Since the time I been playing I seen all the throws the game has to offer I was wondering who has the coolest throw in the game imo Khan has the coolest and worse looking had to be imo Kak

Best command throw (appearance): Hol w/ Boingo
Best command throw (utility): R. Soul

Best throw (appearance): Devo (Capcom likes their North American-native chars to jump up in the air and spin people around)
Best throw to make your opponent rage: Midler
Runner-up: S. Dio’s is pretty cool. So much disdain!
Best farting related throw: Iggy
Best throw you never see because no one plays them: Petshop

Oh so I can toss out the magnet after attacking in the air, I didn’t know this…gotta try it out. About canceling her 5C into wrap…does that mean if I hit opponent with 5C and cancel into wrap it will hit him/her as well? I also notice with wrap, if you do it by itself…it is super super slow…free combo for opponent. So should wrap only be used if canceling into it?

Thx again for advice!

If you are out of range, you just stand there like 2-3 seconds unless they are in range, but the range of it improves with each level of magnetism. When it ‘releases’ (in range) you recover fairly soon after.

What I mean about 5C though, is for whatever reason (bug, feature, some other oddity) the range to activate is a bit extended (I believe) if you do it following some normals. So if you do a mid-to-close 5C and cancel it into QCB+A right after it hits them, it’ll ‘activate’ (leave you and head towards them) at a larger range than if you just did the QCB frmo the same range. It does NOT combo, but in some matchups, it can cause pressure (on block for example) / cancel your recovery on the other move, and make a blocked (or worse, whiffed) 5C safer. It’s something to experiment with and test.

Btw, if you want to see th emagnetism level in-game on GGPO, you need to have the person who issued the challenge reset the machine with F3. It’s a savestate bug that it doesn’t show normally.

Lastly, if you haven’t already seen it - Mariah - Stand Crash

Ah ok I get it…so they have to be in range for it to release quickly, and landing more magnets increases range. Also canceling 5C into it increases the range (kara wrap?) and can be used for added pressure. I heard about the ggpo glitch, I got to remember that next time it would be helpful to see the magnetism level.

Love Stand crash wiki…that is where I got most of her simple combos and such, I’m waiting for Dbo to have some info so I can learn him.

well fayk i updated the combo guide on Midler i just have to do her strats next

Yeah, you could cancel 5C before it hits, but you can also use it as a way to cancel the recovery. It’s not risk free, but it’s useful at times.

As for Stand Crash, glad you like it - it’s thanks to the efforts of a lot of people, many of whom post in this thread, adding info to it.

I just saw that, thanks! I’m sure all the future midler players will be appreciative of that!
