99% sure Haggar’s Lariat assist has some or full invulnerability. Using him to cover rushdown was really good. Playing as Taskmaster, I was using standing B + Assist, standing C, back C, S. Easy and strong.
Haggar is almost identical to Hulk. Same lack of air super options, same lack of good, obvious OTG options. Standing C is the exact same between the two characters, which is good. I love Hulk’s standing C. Damage and health seems similar to Hulk as well. Special/hyper-wise they’re similar, outside of one having an AA hyper and the other having the command grab hyper.
I like both of those characters and may play one in my first month team. It’s a decision between whether you need the lariat assist - which right now I think is probably one of the top 3 assists in the game - or a strong X-Factor character, i.e. Hulk XF gamma waves.
Would you by chance know how well his violent axe works? I am pretty sure it is OTG normally for Haggar (As in the second hit bounces them), correct? If you did use it, do you know if it has quick start-up or invincibility frames as an assist? Also, how does the pipe work? I am pretty sure it is an overhead, making for a damaging unblockable (Yeah, slow, most unblocable things are, or am I just stuck on X-23…) for down-back blocking turtles (This is similar to thee Hulk’s normal C command, like you said if I recall).
At this point I just wanna know how the attacks work really, but assist info would be great. Just as well, GRAB RANGE!!! Tell me it is awesomeness pl0x… Don’t bring me no bad news…
I didn’t really play around with Violent Axe at all. When I was playing Haggar, we were sort of goofing around. I was working a team of two other specific characters, was looking for a solid assist, tried out the lariat on a whim, and was pretty shocked. If Violent Axe does OTG, that gives him a big advantage over Hulk, and really pushes him into the top tier month 1, IMO.
Grab range for all the characters with command grabs seems about the same, and the range is the same for grabs of various button strengths and level 3 hyper grabs. When I was playing Haggar, command grabs were less of a focus point and more of an opportunity option. My go-to weapon for Haggar, offensively, was that standing C, with its one-hit armor and super far range. However, I think that standing C and command C push the character outside of grab range if blocked.
One thing you do have working for you is the armor on Haggar’s pokes. Mash out a few standing/command Cs and you can get people afraid to push buttons when Haggar is in range, since them mashing out A/B on you is going to have them eating a combo. Then you can just calmly take a step or two into grab range and level 3 grab.
GOOD SHIT Dizz. Great to know Haggar got super armor on his standing C (and that it bounces!). I had no idea.
You might have tried this already, but I believe Hulk can OTG via Gamma Wave. I’ve seen a vid where he did air magic series–>E, and then used Gamma Wave to hit the grounded opponent when he landed. I’m sure he’d be able to buffer a super after that. However I think he’ll be able to re-launch if he has a good assist to continue to pop-up the opponent after the OTG.
As for Haggar, please do try Violent Axe on grounded opponents. I’d especially like to know if he can use it to OTG after his piledriver command throw. In his reveal vids it looked like the Haggar player was going to use it after landing his piledriver and backdrop throws. I swear I saw the begging animation for it both times, but the vid would quickly cut away to the next scene. It may have been the player mashing or whatever, but it’s worth a shot.
Hmm… Going back to the trailer, I would not be surprised if throws were only to punish. The command throws on Magneto and Thor took about 1/5 and 1/7-8 of their health respectively. That’s a lot of fucking damage for such a quick punisher in my books (Also, turtles beware). Not to mention he seems like a guy you don’t want to fuck with in the air. The hitbox(?) for his grabs in the air are very generous.
Though I still have this feeling you can OTG off of his command grabs if you were swift enough. The opponent is RIGHT FUCKING THERE on the ground in front of you helpless with the psyche shattered.
i saw a video with all the assits and lei lei assist starts way to far behind the character barely giving you any distance to travel forward…also hagars assist larriet comes out fast but dosnt have them stay in one spot like leg assist when it hits it looks like you can combo off of it. axe hammer extends combos…but no one will use it over larriet… pipe smash he runs in and does a quick pipe smash that floor bounces the opponent

Looks like either Lariat or Pipe smash would be the ones to go for. They both cause the opponent to cause untechable OTG possibilities. Double Axe hammer or whatever its called causes them to roll. It will really depend if Lariat has invincibility or not because he does take a good chunk of damage, if not I will probably go with the Pipe smash for the ground bounce combos.
i was watching a stream of the game and without even trying he got 50% on chun from an air combo also
i just watched deadpool guns dhc to haggar rapid punch…that thing has alot of distance.
:l: version is blockable version is unblockable
:h: version is anti air
They didn’t test it specifically, but I’m going to assume the :l: version is the one he can combo into. BIG THANKS to LI Joe for testing the request. Also, lariat is invuln for a few frames. Mag’s cr. slide and his EM Disruptor were going through it without damaging Haggar.
