The Jesse Ventura, I mean Haggar Thread (MvC3)

i think it is blockable because if you look at the video grab has the yellow hit effect when he grabs the…it looks like a low grab though so it would be good with a over head assist

Yeah, plus he can combo into it. AFAIK Capcom has never let characters combo into unblockable grabs in any Vs game.

Or it’s possible that he has a blockable/unblockable variation depending on what button you use.

Alex could combo into his grab in TvC.

Sigh, this game just needs to be out. Now. Unblockable, blockable, normal hit, command grab, I just want to get my mitts on Mike Haggar! Though I doubt you can make the throw unblockable/blockable with the button (seems like Seth indicated different inputs got you different distances/directions) but that’s a good guess.

In tvc, all command throws could be comboed into like any other special. Mvc3 has the same director as that game, and it’s already been stressed that he can combo into his grabs, again, refer to the Seth statements I linked before.

Just to be specific, it was stressed that he can combo into his running grabs, he can’t combo into piledriver, and no one else can combo into command grabs.

Ooooohhhh so Alex’s throws in TvC were unblockable and you could combo into them? Good shit for the info guys. I obviously never played TvC

Gives me hope for Haggar

Im sure Haggar will be better than Alex.

which would be awesome, cuz even Alex wasn’t shit Tier in TvC

Isn’t “unblockable grab” redundant? Of course it’s unblockable. It’s a grab.

Some grabs are, in fact, blockable. Example: Alex’s back+HP in 3s.

Can’t believe you didn’t mention Oro’s grab from SF3.

or Necro’s grab from 3s

or any grab that didn’t belong Zangief, shuma or Rogue in MvC2

I’ve never heard anyone refer to those as grabs. They’re just regular attacks that hit mid and either stun or start some kind of animation. That’s like calling supers with animations “blockable grabs.”

Thanks to SNK games, I always call blockable grabs “Attack Grabs/throws”. They function just like command grabs (Untechable, end up in throws or slams), save for that they can be blocked, like physical attacks.

Generally, though, since they count as attacks, they’re extra-easy to combo into!

I liked the general ability to combo into grapples in TvC (comboing into Vector Drain with Morrigan was nice), but it doesn’t sound too bad, if Hagger only has certain comboable grapples, as long as he has some.

Oh, and while mentioning comboing into Vector drain in TvC, it only worked off quick attacks that left her really close, if I remember right. It wasn’t like SNK, where you could pull into a grapple off Normal/Distanced command normal. Maybe Hagger will be like this, where he can combo into certain grapples ONLY off of a quick / limited number of attacks?

I never played as or against Oro in 3s. Sad, maybe, but still true.

The blockable grabs from SF3 were a bit of a classification issue because you could also combo into them.
Then again you could flash chop to a suplex. Ahh hell.

we seriously need to know what haggar’s other assists are
that would really tell us how he works on a team

What I’m wondering about now is the if using the rapid punches super uses up your ground bounce, or can you still launch > pipe > relaunch after it. The animation shows you bouncing off the ground, but idk if that uses up your one OTG chance for the combo. If you can’t it seems not that great, but if you can, it seems awesome.

Oooo, looks like Haggar’s flying piledriver only requires HCB rather than a 360. Woop woop! This excites me! I was playing Zangief as practice for command grabs for no reason!
