Great I’d love to play some Blanka Mirrors! I need the practice. It been a long time since, Brdawi… LOL You and Mongolo DESTOYED me back then. We have great matches now. I really enjoy playing Mongolo. Caesar is a great guy. I have with him at every Evo!
I go play with Giga/ CB in AZ 2-3 times a year. I worked a lot on my game. I can’t wait to play. I am sure I’ll learn a lot in Blanka V. Blanka !
A Blanka Mirror is my weakest Blanka Match up!
Now for the record…
Just to make sure… If I was the “someone else” mentioned in your post. I want to say, that I never said that I am the person to listen to when it comes to Blanka. Or that you should take my words over anyone else’s. I want to make sure that I am not trying to preach or say that I am an authority on anything. I only added my comments to add to the discussion. If it has come across other wise, it was certainly not my intention. :china:
Guile is a monstrously defensive player, and feints don’t always bait the stronger Guiles, hence an even game if both are equally skilled.
Most DJs play equally to Guiles with many of the same defensive manuevers and crossups can get nasty for Claw, hence even again if players are equally skilled
Sagats Fireball games can shoot Vegas out of the air, and tiger uppercut does more damage with its single hit if caught in the air. Some Sagats are masters of rushing in with Tiger Knee, and close up fireball game can ruin a Vega player, hence even for Vega on this one.
I’ll acknowledge that Sagat is easier than most shotos if he is a noob, as you explained exposed limbs leave him fair game and an easy lunch for Vega.
Hey tallcans can i play you some time. I feel i know that matchup pretty well and it would be nice to play another good blanka??? basically i just like to smack blankas
Yeah whenever you want I am down to play that Chun of yours or whoever you want. I just remember you having alot of lag with Mongolo because you are from the Caribean or something like that. But I am game send me a friend request
Like I said claw was a counter to guile in classic st (7-3) that has not changed in hdr.
DJ does better against claw then most characters but it’s still a bad match for him in classic st and that hasn’t changed in hdr (though it’s not nearly as bad for him as it is for guile) ask apoc for more info.
Just because you have a hard time vs sagat doesn’t mean it’s bad matchup for him, like I said vega is good against sagat for the same reason he’s good against shotos.
Again I’m only basing my opinion on over 3000 matches, being 15th ranked weekly, and top 200 in “all time”. I am also an exclusive Vega Player, so I can rate pretty accurately.
HDR rebalances a lot of weaknesses and I would agree with your findings if it were Classic, however Vega has been nerfed in HDR.
Then again, tiers and matchups are all individual opinion, are they not?
You’re ignoring the fact that Claw can jump projectile attempts on reaction thanks to his fast jump. That’s why people are saying that Claw does not have even matches with Ryu, or Ken, and especially not Sagat. Taking away their projectiles makes it much easier for Claw to claw them to death.
And I’m basing my post on well established facts so while I am not saying you don’t know how to use claw or whatever I’m just saying that you saying things like “claw is even with guile” is in direct contrast to everything already proven.
Yes having dive not knockdown is a nerf but it doesn’t change anything significant about the matchups I quoted from you. For example claw cleanly counters guile mainly because slide so him not having abuseable dives doesn’t mean shit as far as why he is advantageous in that matchup.
And no tiers and matchups are not individual opinion they are based on the culmination of tournament results, personal opinions of top players, and general player experience. For example to say honda is bad against fb’ers in classic st is a fact known to anyone who has played that matchup just in the same way dj is at a disadvantage vs claw. It is the degree to which matchups such as the one I just posted that individual opinions differ.
Nothing is truly proven since there are statistics for classic, but not rebalanced mode at this time, so that is rendered opinion.
Remember that even the slightest tweaks can have huge effects on fights, and rebalanced is different, even if the changes are not obvious.
As for tournament results, it is mostly “classic” play, and until further tournaments are played in Remix, we have only opinions, which ultimately mean very little at this point.
Ultimately, this tier thread is mostly speculation, and it is not really the style (read as: character chosen) since it is the skill of the individual player that matters most.
I’d invite you to consider what you just said in light of the fact that Akuma is banned from tournament play. While all of us may not agree about that decision, the fact of the matter is that he was banned because this game is a “remake”, not a “new game”. We already know a lot about this game because of the many years we’ve had to play Super Turbo, so it’s not a good idea to throw away everything you already know. It’s a better idea to look at the few changes that were made and consider how those changes affect matchups from Vanilla ST to HDR.
That being said, I would encourage you to read back through this thread as far as you can. Look at some of the discussions that have already been had about the tiers in this game. Trust me…this thread has hashed out a lot of stuff already, so you may want to take a look at the matchups that have already been discussed. You may have some new knowledge to share that hasn’t been considered. That’s possible. Just be prepared to back it up.
With the right style I can see Sagat beating Blanka consistently using a defensive, counter-attacking style with selective tiger shots from super-safe distances making spacing here crucial. Blanka has very little ability to get in if you space him about full screen and spam tiger shots and use his s.FP and c.FK as anti-airs.
I also thought of another option, just defending and counter attacking because his only chip damage moves are vulnerable to the tiger uppercut. That means if you defend perfectly he can’t get any damage in!
How is spamming Tiger Shots from full screen a great plan when Blanka can duck (and actually WALK UNDER) High Tiger Shots and Horizontal Roll over and punish Low Tiger Shots on reaction? You should not be spamming anything in this matchup. Read what I said about this matchup in the Sagat thread about a week ago. Jab Tiger Shots should be used as a shield to advance when at full screen, but otherwise, keeping Blanka just outside of your normal range is as ideal as you’re going to get in this matchup. Tiger Shots only in hit/block combos. Tiger Uppercut or st.:hk: as anti-air. If he’s not walking forward, don’t forget to throw out a jab or two to discourage Horizontal Ball attacks. And…of course, use cr.:mk: XX :hk: Tiger Shot to poke and chip him down. Watch out for the slide from half-screen.
I really don’t see how this matchup is so much in Sagat’s favor with all of the work you have to do to keep him out, though.
