The inevitable tier thread

haru tejyo rapes mid level players but gets raped by high level ones.

I made a post concerning this way back. I showed vids from his other pseudonym. further watch him still lose to top american players on various ggpo matches that have been posted.

I don’t know if he gets raped. I’ve seen him beat many of the XBL elites but of course he loses too. Can you link me to the thread? I’m curious…

I’d also like to see him face an elite Ryu, but I haven’t seen any vids of this online.

Jodim does well against shotos. His weaknesses are Honda and T.Hawk.

You guys gotta stop with the Haru Tejyo nonsense. As much as GGPO masks it, you still have 150-250 milliseconds of delay. That’s around 12 frames, which is a huge advantage for Gief. This is why his spd setups appear to be so inescapable, because they are!

Acutally, you only have one half that since the ping times are round trips. Also, I did testing, and got about 4-6 frames of ‘delay’ vs Alex6x6x6 - (5-7 game frames with turbo 3). 12 frames of delay is “instant fireball” territory. That said, I would guess that there is a favorable timing skew since, on tap throws, since the reaction timing is affected by lag while the action timing is not.

I wasn’t that bad from San Diego to Japan. I was at 110-120 ms. Which is just on the edge of playable. However, damdai nailed it, it sure makes reversals a BITCH.

I have played Jodim a ton on GGPO back in the day. I’ve won a few matches. Sim V Gief is super tough for Gief on lag as well. But, I have lost WAY more than I won. He’s an unforgiving bastard. One mistake and you’re toast. He beast, but still very human.

He’s actually a very cool guy, he can’t speak english very well. But, he’ll type messages (even in broken english) and try and help you out. He seems very very cool.

Anyway you cut it the guy is still VERY good. He has the best Gief I have ever played.

Though I haven’t played Damdai’s yet.

-fatboy :china:

Yeah but you won’t think Damdai is as good since you’ll be able to reverse him.

^^^ From the bit I have played him, I bet Damdai is pretty capable with any charcter if he chooses to be (not ass kissing here). He’s a damn smart player and thinks pretty quickly on his feet. I’d never take the chance in underestimating him. :china:

I think Gief in HDR doesn’t have any favorable matchups at all.

The only matchup i think that’s even is Balrog.

Everyone else is 4-6 except (Honda, Blanka, Vega, Deejay, & Chun)

I think they did a good job w/ HDR & really there is no bottom tier characters anymore.

I would probably say that Haru/Jodim has the best Zangeif I’ve ever faced (Kuni’s up there too) but Damdai is right. I feel that I have had pretty good connections when I have played against him but reversing him is sometimes impossible and it must have something to do with the latency, even with what appears to be a good connection because not being able to escape Zangief ticks like that just doesn’t happen offline or against players who have lower pings.

Round 2 on this video, when he kept on ticking spd…I kept asking myself what am i doing wrong as most Honda’s would just reverse me w/ headbutt.

Yep. He does mix up his ticks well and sometimes that will screw Honda if you guess wrong but the times where you correctly predict his tick and still get grabbed are the ones that are frustrating because it shouldn’t happen over and over like it does.

Also, while my connections with him on HDR were pretty good in regards to playing someone from another country (playing against someone from Asia/Europe/even Canada is usually quite laggy), it was nothing close to what it was on GGPO and GGPO was always 100+ ping.

Tejyo is one of the best overall players. Not just any 'Gief can walk in and beat Eggo’s Dhalsim, and so forth. I hope I can face him one day but I get the feeling he plays strictly ranked.

EDIT: As I say this, I realize that link up there has him perfecting Kurropi one match. Kurropi is an elite player not to mention it was a huge mismatch for 'Gief. Lag or not his reaction time is insane and he’s mastered the SPD range. I feel like there’s no way he can be considered anything but one of the best.

I played Kuni 3 times on CB’s cab this years and Evo, beat him 3 three times. The guy is good, but I feel that Jodim is a little better. Reversal issues aside, he plays a better Gief. He’s better at closing the small openings I leave him, during game play. IMHO, that is what makes a Gief player good, it not the ability to hit all the combo’s and cix ups, to to actually find ways to close the spacing gap efficiently.

While I would agree with this, it’s also probably a bit unfair to make this statement as well because people here have only played Jodim online and have most likely only played Kuni in person. I think what guys like Damdai and myself are trying to say is that he is no doubt a great player (the reasons you listed above are a great example why) but the issue with the online play is his ability to sometimes get away with things that he shouldn’t be able to get away with.

What I do know is that Jodim certainly understands the Honda-Zangief match much better. Kuni definitely has a mental block with that match and plays in complete fear unlike other matches against Ryu/Sagat/Boxer/Etc. where he plays with the same confidence that Jodim has.

BTW, I’ve only played against one other Zangief ever that seems to fully understand how to fight against Honda. I can’t for the life of me remember his handle though but I played against him a couple of months ago on HDR. His style reminded me quite a bit of Jodim’s and if I remember correctly, he wasn’t Japanese but from somewhere in the US.

Maybe its me, but I really think Hawk does slightly better than Zangief in the Honda fight. If I see my opponent choosing Honda, I normally groan or roll my eyes, but It never really puts me in a state of fear like you said happens with Kuni.

I think jet lag did play quite a factor though, I played him once too up in Wes’s room and beat him, I felt Bob’s gief was a lot harder to beat that night so I’m chalking Evo up to that.

Jodim should just come over here and show what he can do. Online for a game like ST is very unforgiving regardless of GGPO or next to no lag. Reversing ticks even for someone who plays hawk/gief is stupid hard online, even with good ping.

Agreed. Please don’t get me wrong. Kuni is a GOOD player. Top tier player, and GOD tier kick ass personality. He is cool. Period.

I have played CB tons of times. I used to fly out to AZ and play he and Giga on his cab quite a bit. CB and Kuni, gave me one of the best indirect complements ever. I was on CB cab and beat CB and then beat Kuni, when Kuni got off the machine CB look at at and shrugged and said " He (me) play the match up well." Kuni simply replied “Yes, he does.” Then CB promptly looked at me a said “F@G!” … LOL…

Then Damdai got on the machine and beat me 3rd round with Ken. He pulled a sick Knee Bash> walk under fake> short x2 > super… Then my ego returned to its normal state.

fatty:china:

And that’s the way it should be. Honda is the one who should be in fear because he wants to stay the hell away from Zangief/Hawk because one mistake and it could mean game over.
