The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

It seems like a pretty draining technique the way she slumps after performing it from SF3 3rd Strike on wards.

In the non canon Nakahira SFA manga she could perform two consecutive Kikosho before reaching a limit of fatigue.
I’d say that both techniques function in a similar fashion, and oddly enough both fit the “Sphere of Destruction” trope

Anyways Kolin this blonde just seems to be popping up everywhere

"PVに 出てる人 "?

(People coming to PV)?

Another reason for this woman being Kolin is the 4-point star on her hat. Commonly known by Christians as the Star of Bethlehem, it represents the advent and birth of Christ or the Messiah. If you remember the old tale of the wise men, they were lead to Jesus by following the star.

It’s also similar to the symbol of Nato, so maybe she is a military friend.

That little girl Chun-li is looking at is probably some prodigious martial arts practitioner that will surpass Chun-li and it’s up to her to look for her and train her while the girl’s clan is dealing with assassins.

… I have read too many mangas.

I still don’t think that Russian lady is Kolin. I’m standing by my theory that Kolin is actually Crimson Viper in yet another undercover role.

Doubt it. Crimson Viper is CIA agent Maya in an undercover role. Now we have a good enough reason to believe Viper was actually a triple agent working with both the CIA, SIN, and the Secret Society in the form of her vanilla SF4 ending. However she is definitely who she is. Kolin is a separate character altogether.

I didn’t see Viper’s connection to Illuminati at all. How was that hinted at in her SF4 ending?

I didn’t either at first. But then Capcom changed the official name of the Illuminati to Secret Society. Watch her ending again and note Seth’s description of the organization that is backing Viper, and how he conveniently stops after trying to name it. Seth says “C…” then stops leading the audience to believe he was about to say was C.I.A., but what if Seth was trying to say “Se…” as in Secret Society instead.

Viper also had a distinct mission in SF4 it was revealed in her ending. She was taking out the Human Incubators one by one. This was never revisited again but it showed a keen interest in specifically trying to take out Bison. Something we now know the SS may be interested in doing too (See: Nash).

I don’t think they would write “C” here if he really meant “Se…”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3QHhbfgEzE

Also, he sounds like he’s saying “Schi…” in Japanese. I don’t think that’s how the Japanese would pronounce the first syllable of “Secret”. I believe it would sound more like “Sek-rut-to” or whatever. Maybe someone with good commend of Japanese can enlighten us.

True. Well they had to write something. I wouldn’t be surprised if Viper did turn out as a triple agent though as I said. It’s in-character and fits the stereotype for her to be a spy within a spy within a spy. Plus she has a weird hairdo like Kolin, they could be sisters. Double dating Urien and Gill… And cheating with Nash on the side. 50 Shades of Street Fighter.

Maximilian’s story mode breakdown… ha!

That’s better

“The person appearing in the preview.”

Anytime.

I can’t see Kolin in that girl. Necro’s younger sister would be intriguing.

Ono: If you actually end up playing the prologue, you’ll see why Birdie is so freakin’ fat now! You’ll see the house he’s staying at, where he’s living.

I’ll go ahead and spill the beans on this: He’s a freeloader over at Karin Kanzuki’s house.

From the same interview

“In terms of the story mode we’ll have in the game on day one, on the disc, it’ll serve as more of a prologue to get people immersed into the world of Street Fighter 5,” Ono stated.

“It [will] be a prologue for each individual character leading into the story expansion, where it’s going to be this very deep, well-told story,” Ono concluded.

This pretty much confirms that all the prologues will probably be canon, and all of them will lead into the main story arc that binds all the characters together.

This is actually a really clever approach to story telling considering the way this game is intended to be digested by the consumer (in pieces over time). It makes sense to focus on the game development and release the cinematic story when that’s out the door and some more characters are ready.

The tragedy here of course is that if the cinematic story is the only one we are getting this era, this means that any future characters released after it will likely not be associated with the main arc. Meaning they will have their own closed arcs, which is fine so long as it makes sense in and of itself. This could also open the door to character stories that are not merely prologues, but perhaps aftermaths of what happened in the cinematic story.

It’s a very interesting approach that I am warming up to.

I’ve been playing the beta (and surprisingly winning!) and after fighting Dhalsim I got Nash’s win quote, don’t think I’ve seen it posted

“God, huh? Even if there is a god, he’s got nothing to do with me.”

Find this interesting;

In the Udon book, the old issues showed on his Dog tags that for religion, he had no affiliation or preference, but in the Resurrection of Charlie Nash, he seemed to have an active belief, but here, he’s apathetic.

Pointed this out because I’m thinking that either he’s been lapsed, or he never believed, but once Gill works his tendrils into him he might regain his faith or become a believer. I’m just curious to see how he functions for Gill, whether somewhat believing in his cause like in the Udon book, or he’s treating this all as a business deal to get Bison.

@Daemos I’m not convinced the cinematic storymode is the only one we’re getting. I see it as a close to each season. Since it’s already being delivered later and they’re gonna need time to work on it, I can see big chunks coming at the end of each season, oooooooooooooooor we get a Cinematic Story Expansion after a few seasons have passed to really move the story along so that by the time we’ve gotten some meat on things, they’ll do another one that can include more parties. So I can see a few, but well spaced out since they can be so demanding. So maybe in 5 seasons we may see 2 or so.

Good thing about this new business model is, they can go back later and decide to add some of this stuff as a free update without being too concerned about launch dates.

Yeah, I see getting a cinematic story mode every 2 or 3 seasons, incorporating the new characters.

Thing is, Nash had another win quote I believe it was against Cammy where he really came off as a zealot to me. Then again, he is ‘the man who lost it all’ which likely includes his faith in god/gods (the way I like it IMO). I have my doubts that the comic Nash and the canon Nash will be the same, there is no Bison anymore in the comics. The possible motivations and reasons behind his new allegiance could be entirely different.

Re: Cinematic Story

It really depends on the how much work they are putting into it. If completing the cinematic story mode is a 4-6 hour experience with 90-120 minutes of cinematics I don’t see them doing a second one. Especially if this one covers all the details of the time between both games and literally ends around the time SF3 begins.

If they divide it up into 2 or 3 cinematic chapters, one per year for the next 2-3 years then sure. It all comes down to two things really: How successful SF5 will be and how much of the timeline will SF5’s first cinematic cover.

I sincerely doubt that SF5 will try to retell the story of SF3. It may force a few retcons, but it won’t actually redo Gill’s tournament. SF3’s self contained story across 2i and 3s works on its own and it’s relatively coherent. It never really needed the retelling that SF2 got in SFA3 and SF4, and this is mainly because SF3 was conceived at a time when Capcom was already getting better with their stories and their idea of a SF universe.

So really, if the cinematic story ends right before SF3 begins and leads into it I doubt we will get another one for this era. We will continue to get prologues however.

Speaking of prologues, now that we know that the arcade mode will be prologues only and that they will likely be extensive. Meaning they will go way back in time and not just the immediate past of SF5, this story costume makes sense:

This is likely how Necalli looks like when he first awakens from his slumber.

I want to know where this is from also…

Is this a Final Bison from Alpha costume? Or is this something more recent in the prologue.
