I’ve read the Street Fighter’s characters’ real power level is more similar to their incarnations in the Marvel vs Capcom series, rather than the ones of Street Fighter?
I’ve seen really powerful hadoukens and Chun-Li creating a huge crater with her Kikousho in the OVAs…
I was always under the impression that coming into contact with the Marvel universe just magically boosted their powers or something.
When I first got into the VS series (X-Men Vs Street Fighter), I was under the impression that Ryu’s Shinkuu Hadouken was going to be staple in every future game going forward. I ended up being pretty salty that it remained a huge fireball in the SF games, xD. I actually prefer it that way now.
so you mean to tell me that Ken didn’t get amnesia when he got hit on the head with fry pan by Eliza for looking at Morrigan and thought he was big shot Mob boss for awhile. who move to town where he had run in with a guy who says are you are you okay and busts people in the jaw afterwards.
Daemos, you’re the resident Bison expert, so I’d like your opinion on something.
This just randomly came across my mind as I thought about Final Bison’s Psycho Crusher from Alpha 3 and Bison’s Psycho Crusher in SFV. which one do you believe is more powerful in terms of sheer power?
Also, as for comparing all the Bison’s, does this look accurate: SFV Bison>SF4 Bison>Final Bison>Alpha 2 Bison>SF2 Bison?
I’ve read some other bold statements about the power of some characters, I think I read a sonic boom is cold as to freeze a mountain, and Chun-Li can release 10 kicks in a second. That doesn’t seem to far away from the special abilities of some Marvel characters.
See, I don’t know if I agree with it not being canon. I think they’re shying away from that stuff from now on. If anything, the character stories may be flashbacks and get the characters to the starting point of the cinematic story mode. With all they’re doing to put forth a focus on canon stories, I think they’ll use all they can to build up the lore.
You can’t help them. I and others tried before…they just don’t listen or care. Also there was a brief time I enjoyed going there (the create a character thread was fun), but it just got less and less fun and recently, the rabid “fix the censorship Capcom” that kept popping up everwhere was getting ridiculous.
I propose that you think of it in slightly different terms to better judge the character. Allow me to elaborate.
Based on my understanding, there have been 3 Bisons so far in the canon:
Bison I (Alpha 1, Alpha 2)
We don’t know if this is the original, but it likely is. Bison I was defeated by Rose, which lead to Bison’s first essence transfer in the timeline. Bison possessed Rose for a time while his scientists cloned and engineered a new body for him. It was also after this defeat that Bison initiated the human cloning experiments to create better soldiers and stronger host bodies, which lead to the creation of characters like Abel, Cammy, and Seth.
We don’t have a lot to work with to gauge the power levels of this Bison since the character was still mostly in the underground, but he was also likely very powerful.
Bison II (Alpha 3, Street Fighter 2)
We don’t know if Bison II is actually physically stronger than Bison I. I personally doubt that the cloning process at this time was advanced enough to make dramatic improvements to original, so it is better to assume that their physical potentials are identical. However, Bison II had the benefit of the Psycho Drive which augmented his body’s ability to hold and manipulate Psycho Power. With the Psycho Drive, Bison was near-invincible, and whatever damage he received was quickly regenerated by the massive amounts of Psycho Power he was able to wield. However, Bison II’s physical form could not actually withstand all the power and ultimately was destroyed along with the Psycho Drive.
Bison III (SF4, SF5)
Bison III is physically the strongest Bison as far as we know. His body was engineered to withstand the full extent of his power and no longer appears to be or even needs to be externally augmented by a machine to sustain these levels.
I’m not sure if Bison III is as strong as Bison II with the Psycho Drive, but they are probably closely matched. Meaning their Final Psycho Crushers are also probably evenly matched as well.
Having said that, the Psycho Drive really was a nightmare machine. Bison had near infinite power levels with it, and was able to sustain those power levels for incredible lengths of time. Even when he couldn’t, he could always return to the Drive’s chamber to rejuvenate. So I’m leaning towards Bison II with the Psycho Drive still being the most powerful.
Individually speaking though, Bison III is the most powerful of the three. He is wiser, more skilled, more experienced, and in terms of sheer physical strength is the definiely strongest the three. Add to it all the lessons learned from his predecessors, his mastery over Psycho Power is at its peak.
There are still gaps in our knowledge so it will be interesting to see what we learn from Bison’s prologue, and the game’s story.
Wow. Great reply as expected! I like the way you categorized Bison as well. It makes a lot more sense looking at it from that standpoint in order to fully understand his various changes throughout the series.
I don’t know about the whole freezing a mountain deal, but from what we can go by the name we can fairly say that the Sonic Boom generates an actual Sonic Boom. To do this the projectile would have to be traveling fast enough to break the sound barrier, so approx. 1,225 km/h (761 mph) at sea level. So the Sonic Boom travels at a minimum of Mach 1.
Chun may release more kicks in a second if we were to assume the translation of her move is literal; Hyakuretsukyaku (百裂脚) meaning “Hundred Rending Legs”.
Whoever made those statements I remember I read them by a guy who had supposedly read it in some Street Fighter Enyclopedia and they came from an interview with some Street Fighter producer. Sadly I don’t remember the exact details of what book and producer said that.
That’s something I definitely overlooked as a part of Giefs training. I assumed he just fought bears in the Russian cold, but the guy has some finesse about him.
