Ahem…HOLY CRAPRAAAAWWWWWRRRLGHAAAARR!!! I’m sitting here and losing my DigerooDoos (I’m…I’m not sure what the crap I’m saying)
This is everything I could have wanted:
-WE’RE FINALLY BRIDGING THE SF3 GAAAAP!!!
-Oh man, both character individual strory modes (also note how they said not everyone’s getting the same boss!) and a big 'ol Cinematic story mode
-All new animations! It’s not like they cheaply pasted the models in, all of what we saw features character and location models not in game (Shadaloo troops, cities, global views) and the natural flow of movement looks great.
-Charlie reminiscing about Guile (please don’t kill either of them Ono!)
-Kolin and possibly Decapre?!
-Bison causing global catastrophe?!
Man, there’s so much to unpack from this thing. I don’t mind the month wait. I want Capcom to take its time and do it right, and it looks like that’s what’s finally happening! Whoo!
Now I’m sold on the story mode for sure. I was getting ready for disappointment, but that’s even more of a storytelling than was done in the Alpha series, A3 to be specific. I’m really, really hype now! Yippppeeeeee!
So essentially, Character Stories have taken the place of arcade mode, only this time, you see their character and their story develop and progress until you reach the final boss.
Character Stories is basically Alpha 2 Arcade Mode.
Cinematic Story is MKX story mode.
What I am not sure of is whether Character Stories function as the prologue for each character (meaning they are all canon, take place before, and set up the cinematic story) or they include a prologue but are also classic what-if stories like previous arcade modes that happen parallel to Cinematic Story.
Worth noting that the character stories preclude the cinematic part, kind of like Xrd. This change leads me to a few ideas:
-We’ll see a fair amount of flashback costumes in prologue mode
-Instead of random fights outside of the rival and boss battles, ALL battles are meant to happen
-Prologues will likely include origin stories (especially for new characters) and some post SF4 events
As for the cinematic, it seems we will see more characters than just the playable roster for sure. While we’ve seen glimpses of Decapre and what appears to be Kolin, I wonder if Akuma/Sagat/Sakura will show up at all in the story. Sagat especially, because I will not rest until we have a cinematic, canon version of Ryu Final.
@Daemos Do you think that the Cinematic story mode will have “Chapters” like MKX? Or do you think we might just hop from character to character without any kind of order?
Well MKX’s chapters were character based and I imagine the cinematic story mode will want the players will play as many characters in as many locales as possible. The linear-character centric chapters make the most sense with the first and last chapters being Ryu probably.
This completely depends on whether the character stories are what-if scenarios or whether they are canonical and happen before/after/alongside the cinematic story. In Alpha 2, arguably every arcade mode rival fight happened because of the smart and considerate way they wrote everyone’s story. I hope they do this again.
Probably NPC characters. My call would be some sort of Intelligence tracking disasters around the world. The guy on the bottom left and right monitors are receiving info from New York while the main monitor displays 7 impact points around the globe from what i assume is Shadaloo’s World Domination weapon. We only see one functional weapon at a time during the trailer, but Ryu’s premonition of Bison show’s that he has at least 7!
What’s really interesting is that the 7 sins are 7 spheres that resemble 7 stars, and Bison’s true name is Vega, which is also a star. This explains the sun emblem in the Shadaloo base.
These are not bombs, these are Death Stars burning with Psycho Power! But unlike the sun they don’t emit light, they emit DARKNESS! JUST LIKE BISON!
