Part one is actually online if you ever get a chance to peep it you should. It’s probably the only SF publication where Sakura and Dan both get justice compared to their SF4 debuts. Link
Billy Kane is not the comparison you’re looking for.
This is.
Shion and his animations & fighting style are AMAZING in KOF…and he even has a non-spear unarmed fighting style and rope-dart style that are equally bad-ass.
I’m not worried about what she thinks. I’m worried about what it implies about her strength and skill if unarmed people can fight her when she’s using a tonfa.
Shooting stuff at stuff is arguably the cornerstone of Street Fighter and what defined it among fighters.
Every fighter in the universe fights with their style, their motive and their code of ethics that they bring to the fight. Some use weapons and some don’t, some want to fight to the death and some don’t, some are where they are through discipline and others through science/technology. There is technically no reason why something like guns should not be integrated into the game play, FANG is the only character with poison for example. SF5 allows for characters to have their own unique subsystems as I said earlier about Ibuki with her Kunai-reload function.
Bringing this discussion back to story, from a IU perspective, a character with guns is not only more acceptable, but more probable than a character like Ingrid.
In the world of SF…having a gun that attempts to even the odds with a superbeing. I mean…come on, true not alot of characters are bulletproof…but…they can dodge bullets. At that point I’d just say “screw this” I’m out.
I don’t like Ingrid, eithet, but why show her as an example? I would rather have characters like Fei Long, Chun-Li, Alex, Balrog and Gen than some nutjob gun user.
Your argument falls apart when you realize that said superbeings can dodge or deflect ANY projectile with ease.
My point being is that suggesting that guns are not ‘Street Fighter’ or go against the game’s sensibilities is a fallacious argument. Also please understand that guns is a loaded (pun intended) term, and can mean any one of a HUGE variety of weapons. Take for example Area from SF EX, she is technically a gun wielder.
We already have characters that throw grenades, rocks, and a variety of other non-chi projectiles. Having a character with a bow or a gun or any other ranged weapon is perfectly “normal” in the SF universe. In fact, a gun user is practically inevitable at this point. Capcom will continue to explore new archetypes and styles with any new character they introduce. First poison, then guns, puppet masters, trap-zoners, it’s all inevitable.
Having a gun can be a fighting style preference (e.g. Revolver Ocelot), and not really an “attempt to even the odds”. I don’t really see the point of arguing this further honestly,** we already have gun wielders in the Street Fighter canon**. If the debate is over whether or not these or any other gun wielders should be playable characters in SF5, then perhaps this isn’t the right thread for such discussions.
Speaking of guns, I always liked Chun’s intro with Final Bison where she pointed the gun at him before tossing it to fight. She knew that shit was useless.
That, or she just wants the sweet satisfaction of beating down M. Bison with her bare hands for murdering her father. I mean, yes, shooting M. Bison with a gun wouldn’t work on him, physically. But emotinoally, just pulling the trigger wouldn’t be enough for Chun-Li. She throws the gun away because she wanted to beat Bison’s ass for real, something she’s been training her whole life for.
