The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

Soo… anyone would like to see a super secret elite guard of Bison dolls or guards based on Monday to Sunday?

Please @Mykka don’t hurt him

I really like Aprile’s new design and her bio. Satsuki is ok but she has always been my least favorite out of the dolls.

So now that we seen all of Ibuki’s outfits it is clear they are intentionally leaving out SFIII outfits.

Maybe they will add them later on in a story update?

A new design character focused entirely on both attacking and life regeneration?! Yes, bring it to me!
That’s why I still think they need to remove healing from Elena and put it on Aprile. Fits with her definitely (sorry Elena fans, an African who plays capoeira style has tons of better movements than recharging her own life).

At least Aprile would be that original char, for good or for evil, unlike Fevrier, who I clearly see as a kind of Cassie Cage source inspiration, which is meh.

Except that Fevrier has been around way longer.

Well, after the success called MKX, which Cassie is one of the most iconic chars, I doubt that majority of people will associate pistols in a fighting game with a doll who has never been playable.

Ingrid.

That’s immaterial. They’d still be wrong.

I don’t like weapons in Street Fighter. I understand that they bring gameplay variety, but they make the user look weak for having to resort to them in order to hang with the other characters, and they make the other guy look dumb for not doing the same.

I agree with that point. But let me ask you this honest question: How do you feel about Vega using a claw?

Fireballs are weapons too, basically.

Weapons and technology are part of street fighting and Street Fighter. If you’re creative enough, any weapon can be integrated in a smart way and finds its niche in the game.

Even if it is a not-too-big bladed weapon I’d rather he didn’t, as it detracts from his skills as a fighter (although it does add to his egotistical nature by making him unfair).

It’s especially annoying when the weapon user is otherwise cool and a legit fighter. Like, what does it say about Maki that she has to use a tonfa to fight Elena, for example?

For me it’s fine as long as the weapons are part of a fighting style (swords, sais, staffs, Vega’s claw, Cody’s knife…). Guns are a bit weird for a game that is about fighting styles and ki control, it would feel a bit off.

I’m of the opinion that some weapons fit better in a series about martial arts than others. Anything blunt, knives, and weapons directly tied to the hand like Vega’s claw feel sort of like martial arts because they heavily rely on your own strength or dexterity to be effective. Guns, explosives, and full-length swords just seem like overkill; you cleanly edge out unarmed combatants in both range and damage potential by virtue of having those weapons.

This kinda ties in with the Alpha 3 plot that Rose was sent by Maggio to find Aprile. Rose’s sub-boss battle should’ve been Aprile but they couldnt make more dolls playable (Noembelu should’ve been the one for T-Hawk, but I think that has been retconned since)

SF5 Ibuki has demonstrated that modern weapons can like guns can be used if they had a reload function. I’ll take something that’s never been done before like Fevrier or Santamu (puppet fighter). All the other dolls have basically had precedents or near precedents.

I think guns and swords are a bit too wacky for SF

Fireballs are martial arts techniques. It’s not close to the same thing.

I think we are way beyond wacky at this point. Guns and swords in very limited quantities and done properly can work. To put it in another way I’d sooner have a Fevrier with a shot gun in one hand and a uzi in the other than someone like Ingrid, Necalli, or Oni anywhere near Street Fighter.
