May, or may not, have been decided before (SF4 stuff) but it doesn’t matter when it was decided, no point in arguing that, since he is officially Charlie Nash NOW, period.
Actually, this basically confirms that his name WASN’T Charlie Nash before SF5.
So, in that regard Vasili was right.
His name has been officially Charlie Nash as of SF4. Vasili was not right, he hasn’t been right in years - even when he is right, he isn’t. That’s how not right he is.
That explosion was actually caused by Psycho Drive/Shadaloo’s base self-destructing. It mirrors the Alpha 3 ending slides almost exactly. Bison’s own explosion (which is different than the mushroom cloud one) was meant to deceive the heroes that he killed himself, like how he ‘exploded’ in every ending in Alpha 3. But we later knew the truth from SF4 that it was actually an elaborate ruse that he orchestrated.

Doesn’t get more conclusive than the producers straight up saying that his name changed to Charlie Nash in SF5.
Only his name been officially Charlie Nash since Vanilla SF4. His dogtags read Charlie Nash on Guile’s prologue.
Sorry but no. The producers are bringing up this change now because it is more relevant since Nash is now a playable character. However the team behind the SF reboot already decided in SF4 that his name is Charlie Nash as evidenced in Guile’s SF4 canon prologue. They knew from that time that Nash was going to comeback in SFV, hence why all the fore shadowing of the character in SF4.
Last I checked, actions speak louder than words. The producers talking about it now does not change what was done in SF4. If anything, it merely affirms what we who have eyes already knew for nearly a decade.
It is also relevant to say that it is a change to “Charlie Nash” across all mediums. In Japan he was officially Nash up until this point. In America he was officially Charlie up to this point. Those in the know that noticed the SF4 dog-tags knew that his full name WAS Charlie Nash but it was not used in that way. Now it is officially being used in BOTH East and West as “Charlie Nash” in toto. This IS a change in that it means that, going forward, “Charlie Nash” will be how he is recognized across all branding in all markets. This is basically just corporate affirmation of something put into the canon in SF4.
It’s corporate-speak. Happens all the time to draw attention to stuff. Watch the WWE and you’ll see stuff like this all the time.
As I said, it doesn’t matter what it was then. What matters is that no matter what the argument is over. He is charlie nash. end of story. Guides are now Charlie Nash, any sort of ambiguity is scrubbed clean and firmly set until otherwise noted. Word of God and all. Directly from a developers mouth, source cited to boot. Cut and Dry, that means we have one less thing to debate.

Something similar happened with Hugo, where as up until SFIV Hugo hadn’t been confirmed as an Andore from Final Fight. This was up for debate until USF4, where it was settled that the confirmed Andore family member model in the background of the Skyscraper Construction stage removes itself only when Hugo is playable on the stage. Similar to how Balrog, Vega, and Sagat switch out of the background of the Airfield stage depending on if Claw and Boxer are in play. Even Yun and Yang do the same thing on the Half-pipe stage. Hugo is an Andore from Final Fight, and Charlie’s surname is Nash.

Here’s a question for the story thread: is Juri actually canonically gay? I heard “Spider lesbian” all the time about her, but I’ve never actually seen anybody show anything that demonstrates it. I just assumed it was more that she’s evil, and evil waifus tend to be given lines that make them sound sexually aggressive towards other girls…

I never saw it, but apparently her bio originally stated “big boobs” as some of the things she liked. Reportedly, they changed that. BAH. Can you believe Nintendo is now allowing gay marriages in their games, but Capcom can’t leave a subtle lesbian/bi hint? I hope they return it to Juri. Fanart wil have to do for now

There’s no misinterpretation. No room for misunderstanding.
Now, you might not believe them, or you might think they misspoke…and that’s fine. But, you’ll have to mark that as [conjecture].
Because, word of Capcom almost always overrides “knowledgeable dude on a message board”. I don’t care how much you dislike Vasili, or think other stuff he says is wrong. It’s irrelevant.
What you fail to understand that his name been canonically Charlie Nash before this interview. All this interview did was reaffirm the name being canonical. Having it come from the producer is a nice bonus but he ain’t telling us anything we didn’t already know.
So if Juri is a fan of big cans, we need a bust tier list for SFV.
