The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

To add to this; we’ve seen some evidence for this in the form of datamined voice files, unaccounted for stages and stage extensions, and day/night cycles. Clearly something is up, they just don’t wanna blow their load before its time. The story mode will most likely be part of the final stage of marketing, the widespread campaign that begins several weeks before launch, which will be directed at casuals instead of the FGC.

Speaking of SF story, I honestly think it needs to be decentralized for the most part. What I mean is we should not tie all Street Fighters to a single story arc. Sure there will be a main story arc always but there needs to be others that run parallel to it taking place in the same time period.

You have the Shadaloo Arc, which is about to merge with the Illuminati arc it seems.

Then we need to revive the CWF story arc, and attach existing characters to it or bring in new and old ones. This arc would have its own minor ‘villain’, heroes, etc. It could relate to the main story arc but it is still independent of it. El Fuerte, Zangief, Mika, Hugo, Honda, Hakan, etc. these guys didn’t need to be associated with SIN in SF4. They could’ve been doing their own thing related to CWF for example. They’ve could’ve then associated the CWF arc with SIN by having SIN one of their corporate sponsors for example just to maintain the feel of a single universe.

We also have the Mad Gear arc that could just as easily be revived. Cyborg Wheelchair-ridden Belger (See MODOK, or even Test Tube Brain Robo-X from Streets of Rage 3) is aching for a comeback and this time he is truly wheelchair ridden and not faking it (except the wheelchair is a state of the art machine). Besides the fact that a reimagined MODOK Belger would be a fucking cool and new SF character concept, it would be a strong reason to bring in characters like Maki and Haggar back into the fold. Even Jessica could come back, reigniting the flame of love in Cody’s heart enough for him to leave prison for a second chance. This could be tied subtly into the main arc by having MODOK Belger be affiliated with Shadaloo. Like they put him back together, and are arming his gang for example. Again however, the FF/Mad Gear arc would also be mostly independent of the main arc.

Then you have the Capcom High School arc which includes many characters like Sakura, Karin, Ibuki, Makoto, Elena, maybe even some rival schools characters can join the party. The characters surely have ties to many of the lead characters and the main arcs (Sakura and Ryu, Kanzuki and Shadaloo, Ibuki and the G-File) but they can also be part of their own little thing.

The point is it is better to have 3-4 story arcs running side by side with some interaction between one another, and each involving 10-25% of the cast. Instead of having 1 story arc then forcing all the cast to fit into it; Characters that really have little to nothing to do with it.

Didn’t Akuma like distroy an island with a single strike in Alpha 2? And blow up a whole submarine while underwater in 3s with a grin on his face? I mean Chun-Lis tough, but let’s not get carried away here

He meant bison is akin to akuma

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my bad xD yeah I’d say the higher ups go gill-> bison-> s.akuma/2arm oro
I only put gill lower because Alex beat him, Ryu beat Alex, and Oro beat Ryu. Oro and Akuma are usually considered on equal footing and the only confrontation between Bison and Gill is a CFE ending in which Bison won (although Gill resurrected)

Capcom has never been any good at telling stories, if they struggle with one plot then it’d be impossible for them to develop several at the same time. They don’t have neither the time nor the creativity neccessary to pull such a thing off.

Perhaps, but Capcom has demonstrated a willingness to improve and grow the story ever since the Alpha series, culminating in SF4 and now SF5. Nothing is impossible.

I’m more of a “believe it when I see it” person when it comes to SF, especially after the clusterfuck that was SFIV in terms of story and char. development.

I am believe it when I see it person too. But clearly we saw different things it seems because what I saw in SF4 was an imperfect, flawed but progressive and prolific attempt at rejuvenating the Street Fighter Story that was neglected and over a decade old at the time. An effort that was extremely fruitful resulting in over 4-5 hours of animations, dialogue, and voice acting that for the most part succeeded in reintroducing the basic gist of the Street Fighter story to an entire new generation. Ono and his team are not responsible for what the SF development teams of the 90s did in their time. SFxT was another Ono and team effort and it too resulted in a mini-series that was well animated, acted, and set the stage for the game’s simple crossover plot.

When it comes to SF5’s story I am more inclined to believe in Ono and his team, but not because I am hopeful, rather because they earned it.

I said Chun would be the strongest at freely controlling her ki. Juri doesn’t control the output of her ki, the machine does all that for her. Also, as far as ki attacks go, they both use them very differently. I wouldn’t count Chun short of being on the same ki output level, but it’s like you said she’s going up against technology so she obviously has disadvantages in ki production. But Chun Li can use Kikosho to the same effect to match anything Juri can do.

*Small ones can stop a speeding car. I wouldn’t put it past her to being able to stop a round of bullets with one too.

Chun is also a national shooting expert herself, so naturally she would know how to deal with bullets when faced against them.

*As we know large ones can cause massive craters. Which I bet if you were to place in the vicinity of the building Juri terrorized would’ve caused the same effect.

*Then there’s the normal sized one which, although powerful, seems to drain her of stamina for a brief moment.

This is where Juri would trump her. Since she doesn’t generate her own ki, the act of producing and processing ki doesn’t fatigue her like a normal person would.
Chun’s VTrigger in SFV; the Renkiko (錬気功 , “Continuous Ki/Qi Attainment”), sounds like a technique that would provide Chun with continuous production of ki like the FSE, albeit being naturally devised. Imo, they both can generate comparably devastating amounts of energy, it’s just Juri can do it more consistently with her device.

I was just comparing the muscle tone and definition in her legs to that of Chun’s. She could definitely show Chun up on “Leg Day”

Yea, that’s how devastating SF’s special techniques are in canon. I’m saying akin to Akuma level power, because he’s the one we usually know for causing ridiculous levels of havoc seen from Chun Li in that trailer. Sagat can cut through a patch of forest with a Tiger Shot, Gouken can stop a whole waterfall from falling with a single punch, even Ryu’s Shinkuu Hadoken can send Seth flying meters into a wall. But none of these characters, save for Akuma, caused the visible amounts of physical damage as Chun Li did with the Kikosho.

*Note- The glowing ball in the middle is Bison’s energy, the surrounding crater was caused by Chun Li.

Oh the shame @bakfromon ! That still does Bison’s balls no justice!

UNLIMITED POWAAAAAAAA!!!

Acting-wise I can’t comment much, Cammy’s voice in the western version was superb and I seem to remember the rest of the cast was very well performed too. But when there are rival fights that mean nothing (said so yourself) and the whole plot develops outside the actual fighting players engage in on arcade mode all I can think of is that they wasted a lot of potential. Daisuke Ishiwatari has always been more than capable of integrating at least most of the cast and fights into the story of GG and his budget AFAIK is way smaller than what Capcom spends on SF.

Also some of the endings were so pathetic I couldn’t believe they spent a single second of their lives in producing them (El Fuerte anyone?).

I can understand if people want their fighting games less serious and more bright, but when it’s done poorly the result is vomit-inducing. On the other hand I’m glad that it seems Ono and co. learned the lesson since SFV seems to be by far the darkest entry in the saga yet.

Wasn’t really trying to show off Bison’s potential, although he does kinda steal the show. Interesting enough, the ki Bison releases doesn’t seem to cause any collateral damage to the already damaged surroundings, like Chun’s Kikosho did. It seemed to act like a defensive force field, or barrier, repelling the fighters away and causing blinding light allowing him to escape.

[quote="bakfromon;10529932"I said Chun would be the strongest at freely controlling her ki. Juri doesn’t control the output of her ki, the machine does all that for her.[/quote]

I am not sure the machine does everything for Juri. If she developed her techniques before getting the eye, then she can control her ki output.

Man, I miss Black Widow from SlamMasters… :frowning: I’d like to see her and a few others get a new shot someday

I’ll leave the mandatory reminder of Alpha Chun Li sprites here:

RIP, Alpha Chun Li. You won’t be forgotten.

Probably a manifestation of raw telekinesis.

Alpha Chun is EASILY the best Chun. Best proportions, best look, best costume, best everything. Hands down.

Juri’s developed her fighting technique all her life before getting her eye enhancement, which in turns amplifies her ki. We’re not sure if she had any control over ki before hand, but if she did it would’ve been pumped to the degree we see now. What we see now is an ability which puts her unbearably high, a level which Chun has to struggle in order to maintain.
No, the device doesn’t do everything for her. Although, it does provide some sort of battle info, as seen in the Juri anime, it doesn’t record data like the Tanden Engine predecessor. It’s not like she would need to, as one of her listed special skills is photographic memory.
I tend to think of the FSE as a device that provides exponential growth to her ki lvl. She can do this with little energy spent on her part, or go all out like she did with Guile for devastating effects.

Fei Long had chicken wings for arms in Alpha I’m pretty sure Dhalsim had bigger arms than him too, and the guy is 26 lbs lighter than him!

Although, it has been discovered in SFV that Sim has variable weight and height, so he can be almost any body type.

WHOA, where is that gif from!?

All these sprite posts just remind me of how great those games looked. RIP A3

I would love to jump back into the discussion of which female SF character is strongest, but first, an interesting bit from the 4Gamer interview

Spoiler

Thoughts? So the reason why F.A.N.G. was revealed last because not only was he new, but he was also an important role of Shadaloo and the story.

From the look of Chun’s arms, when she’s standing with her arms at her side, she looks like she’s got manly arms, but in her fighting pose, she looks proportionally perfect.

I like Alpha Chun, but I guess part of me will always love her SFII, IV, and 3S renders a little more, that’s just me though.
