Wouldn’t bearded Ryu be easily explained by just having Ryu return from a few months of training in the wilderness? Something like “after Gouken sealed SnH in Ryu, he recludes himself in the forests of [insert mysterious and isolated location]. 6 months later, he emerges from his training, and thus the story begins…” Cue 1 or 2 fights with that appearance, Ken arrives, tells him to shower and buy a new gi, and Ryu emerges from a long shower with his classic appearance.
While I think SFIV looks terrible, SFEX models are not much better. There is something to be said about the charm of that model in it’s simplicity though.
SFV, right now looks great, but 10 years from now everyone will look back on it and say it looks like everythings made of clay.
I actually think because of the clay look they’ll have better longevity. Instead of trying to make things as realistic possible or going with a new and popular art design, everyone looks like statues/action figures which will be relatable and timeless. It’s probably the best anyone can do as far as lasting 3D models can go.
Oh and the story… I’ve said it several times but I think by the end of the game’s life cycle it’ll probably look to tell the story after SFIII. I think they’ll completely overwrite a lot of the old stuff. I think they want to focus on the new generation as far as lore goes and don’t want people having to go back 15 years to see what happens next.
Alpha Ryu is just reaching puberty. SF3 Ryu, on the other-hand, is manly as fuck. Bearded Ryu is a God among men.
I really can’t wait to see how the Story Mode is going to be implemented. Easily one of the things I’ve been looking forward to the most in SFV. I like the idea of a Story utilizing everyone within a single campaign. It’d give you a reason to have to use everyone, which is never a bad thing. I also wouldn’t mind if it had individual stories similar to the way most Anime (ie Blazblue, Persona) fighting games do it.
I hope it isn’t just a renamed version of Arcade Mode like Killer Instinct did. That would be the definition of ass.
Oh, you mean like they did with MVC3? I’m still mad salty about that shit. Honestly getting a bit worried we haven’t seen anything about the game’s story, just promises that it’s gonna be important and different.
We need a story trailer soon and it better fucking blow me away.
I mean it’s Capcom’s word, whatever that’s worth. I think they learned their lesson with MVC3. Casual’s wont accept a game with anemic story, they probably wouldn’t have said anything if they planned to go bare-bones like MVC3 or so so with SFIV.
I don’t personally care but I do appreciate a good story mode and cool endings like 3rd Strike, SF2 and Alpha 2 had.
Yeah, I honestly hate how Capcom squandered such a huge opportunity with MVC3. I had all types of scenario’s in mind, only to see a few quick endings that basically showed us jack. I mean, they continuously went on about how the focus on story was like no other VS game before, and that they even hired Frank Tieri just to write the story. In one of the earlier Comic-Con interviews, they even said different teams would have different stories, and that each character would have a unique encounter with another in the Story Mode. I was so hyped.
This most likely was in development, but the idea probably got scrapped because they were trying to rush MVC3 out so early. We know how much of a mess that game was.
Hopefully they’re not bullshitting us this time around. While I’m optimistic, I won’t allow myself to be letdown again.
Seriously, no lie that pissed me off to no end. EVERYTHING said and quoted about MVC3’s story mode was total and utter bullshit and Capcom knew it and still spewed it in the same year MK9 came out with its amazing story mode. Still sickens me to this day.
That’s what threw me for a loop, I kept wondering what on earth happened, because they did not just hire him for dialogue and references. Looking at how things eroded with stopping the updates, taking the game off PSN and such, it’s clear the behind the scenes drama spread to the story development.
