The sandbagged part is conjecture but likely, but you are right that Gill knew that his position as the leader is secure. Urien is still nearly as powerful as Gill. Maybe their potentials are different, but that would take years to discover. The difference lies in what secret society techniques they chose to learn towards the end of their training. They are a twisted version of Ryu and Ken or Gouken and Akuma even.
Guile also singlehandedly defeated Bison then, even though 6 months prior he needed Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Cammy to just force him into retreat. Also Guile magically doesnāt give a fuck about Bison being alive later in the story. What a change of heart he had.
Itās like the concept of continuity error is completely lost on some of you. None of the fights you mentioned happened. None. The rival matches are would be scenarios if these characters met during the tournament, and they have no impact on the actual turn of events as evidenced by their complete exclusion and lack of reference in later stages of the story.
@Shockdingo seems your tags got messed up, canāt read your post properly
@Daemos I do want to agree that Capcom has gotta do something with Balrogās character in SF5. I donāt mean to make him the story-centric character, but at least give him some fucking personality other than āGIMME MONEY - IāLL DO SHIT FOR YOUā which is how he was basically portrayed in SF4.
@Cipher to be completely honest - not ALL the rival battles happened in SF4. SOME did, but mostly they were set up as an interlude between the prologues and endings because they made sense in terms of character relationships but they often break the continuity, and there are different examples of such, like Bison vs Juri
@bakfromon Yes, Gill did intentionally lose to Urien because he didnāt give a shit either way. Gill was already established as a concrete leader of the Illuminati, chosen for what he was and his talents, both strength and mind-wise, and losing to Urien just once would not change a thing about his position, also it can be considered fun because Urien is so full of himself and salty over not being #1 in the ranks of their organization
On another note, I wonder how new chapters to the story will be added if theyāre going for a seasonal approach. Will there just be one big update that gives everyone new chapters or will it be attached to the characters. Buy Alex and get his story.
Someof the rival matches do connect to the story. But with others, you are left just to infer what happens next.
For instance: Chun-Li beats Juri in her rematch. The Fight your rival cutscene sets itself up for it to be told this way.
However, Both Chun-Li and C-Viper both meet each other in their respective Fight Your Rival scenes, making me assume that both meeting each other is probably canon. But what makes it incomplete is that we donāt know exactly who wins in the end.
Something got me thinking⦠since the alt. costumes are tied to story, would everyone who was in SFA get an Alpha design as well? Like have a regular Nash, Birdie, or Karin in her traditional schoolgirl clothes? Will all the returning characters be getting flashback designs that will also be used in story mode?
Many rival matches contradict basic logic and the very endings of characters.
[list]
[*] Ryu did not fight Sagat. If he did, then Sagat wouldnāt be talking about fighting Ryu in his SF4 ending.
[*] Guile did not fight Bison, because at this point in the story the heroās still donāt even know Bison is alive. It also defies everything we know about the characters to accept Guile defeating Bison singlehandedly.
[*] Chun-Li did not fight Juri because Juri isnāt in jail and Chun-li is alive. Juri is much stronger than Chun-Li, we saw what Juri did and she did that without even trying.
[*] Akuma did not fight Ryu because it completely contradicts Gouken and Akumaās SF4 endings.
[*] Cammy did not fight Juri or Viper, this makes ZERO sense. Neither did Decapre fight Cammy. Not only would Cammy be utterly crushed by Juri and Viper as we saw in the actual story, but her interactions with Viper and Decapre in the endings does not follow these matches. Viper and Cammy behave like they donāt even know one another in their rival match.
[*] Gen did not fight Chun-Li. If he did, then Chun-Li would not have continued her mission and Gen wouldnāt save her in his ending.
[*] Juri and Bison did not fight. They met for the first time face to face in Bisonās SSF4 ending as evidenced by their conversation and the lack of reference to any previous encounter.
[*] Guy did not fight Rose, because Guy did not stop Rose from putting her life in danger for her cause. Guy in fact saves Rose in the end.
[*] Rose did not fight Ryu, because Ryu actually ended up going to the SIN base against Roseās wishes.
[*] Gouken did not fight Ryu, and fight him again in his ending. He wouldāve sealed his SNH the first time and called it a day.

This is just a sample of the possible continuity errors. These things donāt matter to people like Cipher, because they think with their dick. However, if you actually see the SF4 story for what it is, you would know that these rival matches cannot be anything more than what if scenarios. With the exception of Abelās fight with Guile, none of the rival matches actually add to or move the SF4 story forward in anyway. They just serve to give background and introduce peripheral information about the characters and their interactions/relationships with one another. This was done because SF4 in essence is a reboot, so old rivalries were refreshed.
Bullshit. You clearly donāt care about the continuity or any sense of cohesiveness in the story, all you care about is Cammy being the strongest. This is why you need these rival matches to be canon. Present evidence that these rival matches actually happened or STFU.
They did state that all the returning characters will get classic outfits. So I think we are getting these like you assume.
That would be fucking dope. Though to be honest Roseās, Mikaās, Karinās and Charlieās design donāt QUITE differ from their Alpha costumes that much. Birdie would require a whole new model, Nash would just need a clean skin texturing
I wouldnāt be surprised if they did. I think there are gonna be many flashback scenes within the story mode, so this could mean that we could get alpha costumes for all the characters that appeared in the Alpha game.
They could be telling the story like in MKX, how they have a main story with flashbacks to like 20 years ago, 5 years ago within the story.
Well Rose isnāt in SFV, Iām just talking about the returning characters for this game. I was just thinking a quick way to do a classic Birdie body type, would just be to model and program everything thatās on him onto a Zangief body type. Both are virtually the same build when you look at the mechanics of it. Itās cheap and they have the tools to do it quickly. I was even thinking they could use Nadeshiko as an alt. for R.Mika, but have parts of R.Mikaās story where you actually play as her, functioning like a tag team. She would just play like Mika, and her V Trigger would ironically be Mika.
Yea but for now Iām just ready to see some Alpha Chun in SFV. Maybe even have Bison sport his black hair again and Dhalsim go from bearded to bald. Vega can lose the grandma shirt too! I think all of classic designs would look good in SFV.
And we see again, make everything you canāt belive non-canon and call it a day, I wasted enough time here.
I stick talking with real experts and not thick headed americans that make their own SF Story.
