Now I’m just sitting here and wondering how much retcons will SF5 do to not only the previous games (like canonizing Charlie’s Alpha 2 ending but not his Alpha 3 one), but also retconning the SF4 events, AND altering the SF3 events
I’m almost afraid Capcom is going to make sure as if SF3 era never existed to begin with and completely rewrite that story arc from a blank state
They already kind of retconned Chun Li’s encounter with M. Bison from SFA2. It looks like her SF5 flashback encounter with Vega is supposed to overwrite that event now since they’re so similar.
I guess this won’t be a big issue.
It’s the same team and the whole retcons already started in SF4: Charlie’s SFA2 death being canon was already shown there if you paid attention. It just wasn’t completely obvious, so that people (Vasili) were still able that the game is in line with SFA3.
So, I guess SF4 and SF5 won’t have any real contraditions among each other, but are one continuity.
Yeah, I guess SF3 will get at least the same treatment as SFA2, SFA3 and SF2.
After all, they will have a huge story mode now. So, ending it with a cliffhanger, saying: “And if you want to know how the story ends: Have a look at that 19 year old game with its still frame cutscenes”? Nah, this wouldn’t really fit. So, yeah, SF3 will get a major retcon or never mentioned again or it will be outright retold in SF6.
If I could choose the topic of the next SF game, I would prefer an actual reboot: A story that retells the whole plot from SF1 to SF2 (or SF1 to SF3), all presented in a “Mortal Kombat”-like story mode (but without the time travel stuff of course). Oh yes, and with SF2 as a separate event again with a clear final battle in the tournament.

Not exactly convinced SF3 would get a TOTAL retcon. But knowing SF4 and SF5 so far, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some retcons nonetheless.

Characters that were never playable and have always been dead whose death serves as the foundation for a playable character’s entire story arc should not be brought back from the dead. There’s no fans who are upset because their favorite character isn’t playable because they were never playable. All you’re doing is undermining the actual character by removing their entire character motivation.

All this information about the SF1 characters and the two SF2 intro-exclusive characters makes my mouth water. I’ve always thought, as generic as they may be, they are some underrated gems. Here’s hoping they give us at least two SF1 and SF2 intro characters in SFV.

Yeah, the video doesn’t show that the director of final fight said Poison is a woman. And the only reason she was changed to a man was because of fear of being sued for violence against women.

I don’t have it on me, but I think from the start there was a development sketch showing her attacks and making note of her being born male along with misc info. Whether the intentions, in the final product she’s canonically trans.

Not when a certain score is required to bring about the scene in question. If we follow that logic, then most of the cast in SF3 have been Raging Demon’d at some point or another.
Also, the Training Guide only says Bison was thought to have met his end during the World Warrior tournament. It never said anything about Akuma or the Raging Demon. The win quotes between Bison has no idea who Akuma is when going by his win quote in SF4. The only games that mention the Akuma handing Bison his ass are Street Fighter X Tekken and SNK Vs Capcom Chaos. That’s it.
No there are things in game but more likely a what if or an update senario by the official new sources… to be better once…
dunno about the SF4 training guide…maybe it depends on the manufacturer and dating to know if its the staple or outdated… if its the current based of the continuity.
