The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

I really like the way Rolento’s perceived in SF4. Most of the characters are mocking his Utopia, telling him they’d never join the shit; then you have guys like Gouken (“You have earned a great many followers. Your determination is admirable.”) and Ryu (“Your nation will no doubt be full of strong citizens.”) who seem to respect his efforts towards that goal. Rolento has come a long way.

Rolento’s win quotes are pretty cool, too. I like this one to Fuerte:

It’s obvious that his cooking sucks.

Ok so after watching another episode of SFR I can safely say the series has picked up in pace, but after the few months we’ve been covering hardcore canon I picked up on some things that we’re obviously artistic liberties taken that make the story non canon.

Spoiler

Right off the bat Nash refers to himself as Major Charlie Nash while in game canon has him ranking lieutenant. Second glaring obvious non canon point was the name of Laura’s grandfather being changed from Kenjiro in canon to Hiroyuki in the series, which really isn’t that big of a deal to begin with, but when they bill themselves as being based in canon small details like names and ranks matter for the character your basing it on. Original characters are one thing, but tweaking established characters is another. Now people will probably confuse artistic liberty for fact, and small details like Nash being a Major and Hiroyuki being Laura’s grandfathers name (and death by Shadaloo as being his fate) will be taken as fact when in game source material provides no basis for this. Otherwise it was great action and acting all around. The Interpol meeting/ arms deal scene is done way better than I expected. Ryu continues to take the brunt of the hits during the fight setting up Ken to deliver the goods in style, Nash is definitely an anti hero who wants Ryu and Ken on his side but appeals to Laura’s sense of revenge, and Decapre is there too selling guns and WMDs. It’s too bad these episodes are so dang short because I feel like with more time these could’ve been just as engaging as Assassin’s Fist. Otherwise I can pretty much say at this point I doubt much of this series will tie into the actual story mode in June. It will just be loosely based on some plot points in the game canon while mostly trying to tie into their upcoming series of World Warrior.

It would be cool if we get Cody and an encounter with Nash opens his eyes and gets him to reform. After all, aren’t both of them personifications of “die a hero or live to be a villain”?

Really interested in Rolento’s role in EX. I know his troops slaughtered Doctrine Dark’s friends, who were under Guile’s command or something along those lines.

Another thing: some characters in EX3 have multiple endings. Bison has like 3, Ryu, Kairi, Nanese, Hokuto, Sakura, Sagat, and Ken all have 2. That’s pretty cool. Guile’s ending seemed to end on a pretty cool cliffhanger:

I honestly believe the EX series has a lot of untapped potential. In one of Bison’s endings, Claw talks about killing him after he challenged Claw to cut him. Yo.

EX had FAR more effort into pushing forth an interesting narrative than most of what Capcom themselves have released in-game. I know that might be heresy…but I’m also pretty sure it’s fact

All i know is they should make canon that V.Rosso have the ability to use the power of awesomeness to lava-punching pass from Arika Universe into Capcom Universe giving no fucks about license

V.Rosso’s hairstyle gives ZERO FUCKS about legalese! Rosso for SFV dlc!

We should accept nothing less

V. Rosso would accept nothing less.

Speaking of EX series plot I just wanted to remind everyone that an unofficial plot guide for the series has already been compiled here using sources from the AAC book, translated text pulled from the old Japanese SFEX website, and Japanese translations of the endings themselves. I’ll also provide a link to here which provides all the EX series endings in Japanese (EX3 section has downloadable transcripts of each the translated Japanese endings).

I actually like the idea of SFEX series being the spin off story to SF2 era.

Some stuff I pulled from the SFEX story entries I thought were pretty interesting topics we’ve non nonchalantly gone over in discussions.

Ryu’s SFEX2 ending

Restraint has been an essential theme in Ryu’s story, and it is no different in EX canon as he forbids himself from using special techniques. He will mostly stick to the fundamentals during his fights and will only use special techniques during times of emergency.

Also some SFEX2 endings that are revamps of other SF endings

Guile SFEX2 “SF2

*(also confirms Sonic Boom moves at the speed of sound)

Blanka SFEX2 “SF2

Chun Li SFEX2 “SFA

Akuma’s EX ending is similar to his Alpha ending, too.

No matter where Akuma goes…he’s always the same…doing the same. Damn man…find a hobby.

We gotta find out if Kairi really fought Akuma!!!

Hmmmm if she did she must have obviously got beaten or it was somehow a tie/interrupted. And Knowing Akuma “YOU’RE TO WEAK WEAKLING!!!”

Lol, you stay shitting on Akuma. I love you!

That sounds like sarcasm. I’m just not his biggest fan. I think he’s an actual bigger RQ’er then Bison.

That actually wasn’t sarcasm. I seriously enjoy your posts on Akuma. Besides, I always imagine I’m hearing Juri’s voice when I read your posts.

Well, at least you can play against a RQer up until the end. When Gill doesn’t get his way, motherfucker flips over the table like “oops, have to start over”.

Ah ok. I try not to banter too much on characters. Moreso for the respect of the fans that like them.
