The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

Judging from these videos, as far as I remember, it looks like both games are supposed to be the same event:

I guess so then.

We can gauge from the announcement of Eliza’s pregnancy and up to the point of Mel’s birth that the entirety of the SF4 era took place in a period of 1 year. The events within are ordered as such:

Aftermath OVAs > TTTB > Juri OVA > SF4 Prologues > SSF4 Prologues > SF4 Tournament > SF4 Epilogues > SSF4 Epilogues.

For a relatively accurate ordering of the SF4 and SSF4 prologues and epilogues I recommend:

Eventhubs are shit btw.

edit-

Ha! Totally didn’t notice DRW linking to the same video.

I would love a guest team like that for KOFXIV

Can’t see shit, cap’n

I know. Best we got for now.

I wonder if moving Juri up to May from August and moving Balrog down to July will impact the cinematic story. I was looking forward to Boxer and his interaction with Ed, but now it seems Juri will be part of the main story mode afterall.

Well Balrog DOES have that Illuminati symbol on his robes. So maybe there’s something with that.

I have a feeling that the cinematic story wont change and it was merely a sales POV. Juri is much more popular than Balrog or Ibuki. I feel that they are intentionally putting Urien at the end for a final push boost to offset Alex since they were two of the most requested to return. I think sales will potentially be the highest right before EVO, which would put Juri in may as a big draw. I could be wrong and it’s the exact opposite or you are right and it’s due to story stuff.

Obviously the actual in-game story mode will come into play but I don’t think capcom really is worried about the chronology that you play the character story modes in. Hopefully they make an effort to keep all of the characters stories from engaging in the previous street fighter style of lots of contradictions due to people effectively following the same path and defeating Bison.

Speaking of which, I think that we can conclude that Bison is likely the big boss of the game. He was released first and he always is the final challenger in Survival mode right after Necalli IIRC.

I am really hoping Alex spreads some light on the Illuminati (hah! Light! Illuminati! I slay me!) corner of the game’s story. Though…we don’t even know if DLC characters will have story content (bang-up information blitz on your DLC, Capcom!)

Finished the Guilty Gear Xrd story mode just a few minutes ago.

It’s the best story mode a fighting game ever had. Shit can’t be topped. Nope. Impossible

Interesting, didn’t notice Juri being moved up.

Could be, though in Charlie’s story, Fang seems to be looking for a smoking gun about Balrog through Ed, so maybe he’s back in Shadaloo property, but 'Rog lets him roam occasionally to do or look for something?

Until I do the other translations for SFZ & SF2 characters I’m going to guess the bios are going to tell about their ending regardless of the legitimacy in canon.

Yea, it seems we have 2 conflicting accounts of time line. AAC states that SF2 is 6 years after Zero series and AASFZ3 states that it is 3-4 years afterwards.

Edit: Was the AAC guide released after AASFZ3? I assume it would have been since it covers up to the year 2000 and Z3 was released in 98. I want to know which time gap was written more recently because they probably retconned into a definitive amout of years instead of a hazy interval.

Ryu bio SFZ3

AAC was released after AASFZ3.

BTW, pre-SFV, the general consensus of the timeline was that SF1 took place in 1987, Zero 2 (replaces Zero 1) takes place over the course of a year 1987~1988, and Zero 3 events take place over the course of two years 1998~1990. SF2, the tournament, takes place in 1993. So a 4~6 year between SF2 series and Zero series gap is roughly accurate, depending on when you want to start counting, since the events of the Zero series take place over a long period of time.

With SF2 seemingly folded into SFA3, I’m not sure what the current gap is. BUt assuming SF3 isn’t completely retconned, there’s still going to be, at max, a four year gap between SFIV (which itself takes places shortly after SF2 and again goes over a period of time) and SF3 due to the age of Mel.

(Slight correction Daemos: Capcom got rid of the years and the birthdates of characters, now instead simply stating their ages and, where applicable, only the day and month of their birthday)

I went over Sagat’s SFZ bio and it does mention him getting a rematch with Ryu, which he feels he doesn’t take serious and is left empty. His next bio goes over that he seeks a rematch with Ryu but the results are the same as the last game. I’ll post the actual scripts later but I would say it’s safe to say that even though these bios compile the characters endings they may not infer if they’re actually a part of the canon until another bio reaffirms it.

I’ll probably skip over the Vs series/ cameo bios and come back to them another time so I can focus a lot more on the main plots of the characters. Because Ryu and Akuma obviously have ton and I feel like more people would want to know more about the main stories of other characters atm.

Yeah, I think you should focus on the main stories for now. But if you can, please translate Cyber Akuma’s bio. I’ve always been interested in his backstory. All the other VS stuff can be revisited another time.

Bakfromon is my new favorite poster.

Just seen the first episode of SFR and even though I see potential going forward into the series the first one fell a bit flat.[details=Spoiler] I suspected that Laura would play more of an important factor to the live series than she is in the storymode, and even in the short time she’s featured she’s 1000x’s more of an interesting character live action than in game. Amy Johnston doesn’t play Decapre or Cammy… but she plays herself as one of Ken’s students…interesting choice I guess, it’s a cool concept to see Ken Masters as…a master of his own dojo/gym. Nash’s glasses are used as a sort of “saiyan info scouter”, functional for the perfect vision of a fighter pilot as well as stylish. Kolin’s there too and has some interaction with Ryu but no dialogue is portrayed. I don’t know how tied to SFV story this is supposed to be, but Ryu and Ken are still under the assumption that Bison died at the end of SF2. Ryu also receives word from Kolin that Bison is returning with a grander scheme and only a group of chosen ones can stop him “again”. Nash is being fed info from someone and he has some sort of agenda against the heroes.[/details]
Anyways back to bios on Ryu

Hmmm. I’m surprised Ryu’s lost to Oro wasn’t mentioned in his 2I bio. Perhaps this’ll be mentioned in Oro’s bio instead.

If I recall correctly, Ryu’s dialogue with Akuma is where he states he’s overcame the Satsui no Hado or something along those lines.
