The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

Okay I recognize Abel, Juli, Juni, and Cammy but who’s the kid. Is it the tech kid from Delta Red?

That is awesome thanks for putting this together, with a little time we can definitely put together a cohesive story guide.

@Eternal I’m going to honestly say that I personally would have a hard time translating that amount of info at one time. I can legibly translate about a paragraph or less at a time which is perfect for these AAC entries, but something like the AAZ3 is more of a grand task. None the less I’l attempt to pull main points and elements from each section and possibly provide a transcript, but like I mentioned before I’m no pro at this. Trying to understand some of these things is like trying to understand a drunken Yoda.

Moving on I have Ryu’s completed for the whole SF2 section.

Wait, 6 years between SF1 and SF2? That’s a bit longer than our consensus, right?

And Juni/Juli being in Delta Blue could be a stealth confimation that Juli escaped Shadowloo too, but how is kind of a mystery. Perhaps we may one day actually get Juni/Juli as one character after all?

So courtesy of @mykka for finding this. How legit do you think this is? (He posted this in the Juri thread)

Whoa. Ryu hearing about Psycho Power and deciding to seek it out is interesting. I’m guessing his Alpha 2 bio will change this to Akuma. Regardless, the original intent on his journey is a pretty cool thing to know.

Not if it was written during SF2’s time. At one point, back when we had canon years, SF1 took place officially in 1987 (it’s actual release date) and SF2 was officially set in 1993 (my guess would be with the release of Super SF2, which would have been the last “true” SF2 game, though it was released early and unfinished - hence ST being released a mere 5 months later).

This is something that piqued my interest too because I always assumed that Bison was always the one to be chasing after Ryu, but here Ryu has an interest in finding out what Psycho Power is all about. This story almost seems SF2-ish with Ryu being the one to constantly seek out every challenge no matter what it is, so naturally Ryu would seek out Bison to test his skill against him like the basic premise of the plot for SF2.
It seems they didn’t use the plot element of Bison going after Ryu until SFZ2, but they would use the Dramatic mode from the same movie specifically for Ryu and Ken vs Bison starting in SFZ. Although the main plot doesn’t include Ryu getting a chance to have dialogue with Bison or vice verse, and he only confronts Sagat at the end.

I wasn’t expecting you to translate everything all at once, or even all of it or any of it. I merely provided the material for people to check and see what they understand and what is useful. I didn’t even know if the stuff on the right side after the “Fighting style / fashion style” was anything, it could have just been a description of their stage. I expected the interviews at the start might just be discussing the making of the book or how the got into street fighter or are related to the franchise, nothing useful to the story but I wanted to be sure. The win quotes near the end were mostly there for reference to the differences as they already are translated and provide both the english and japanese versions.

Much of the stuff with the endings is already somewhere out there I believe, but having the AAZ3 book might have cleared up some stuff people mis-remember, or perhaps they discuss the true order of the story since there is two breakdowns of the storyline, for some reason.

I know there is much more to translating that taking a word and finding the same word in english. Translating and localizing the logic of stuff to try and understand intent of the writer is a lot different than simply breaking a cipher code like this was a discussion of cryptography.

Do what you want with it, if anything.

Juni and Juli look really good in those Delta Blue outfits.

Unrelated subject. A lot of people seem to think that Ed will have been raised/trained by Balrog. I can understand this assumption from the ending, but…given that Balrog still works for Shadaloo, and Ed is some kind of Shadaloo experiment, isn’t it more likely that he simply brought Ed back with him to Shadaloo, and he went right back to being trained by them?

It’s about the same actually.

SF1 takes place months to a year before Alpha 1/2 which takes place 4-5 years before SF2.

@Eternal I’ll see what I can gather from all of it. Just try to leave the scans on your imgur long enough so I can to get to them (maybe a few months or more at this point).

Wait, so the previous theory was that A3/SF2 was 4-5 years after A1/2? I thought it was 1-2 years if that. DAMN HALF-ASSED CHRONOLOGY.

The 4-5 year gap between the Alpha era and SF2 has been constant from the beginning. Even before the merger of SF2 and SFA3, SFA3 would’ve taken place 4-5 years before SF2.

Well, well, well. What do we have here? If this isn’t a clear indication that Ryu’s ending is…canon. And since his ending requires him to defeat M. Bison within the bounds of the tournament since we see Bison on the winners’ podium and place 1 empty, doesn’t that mean that Ryu won the SF2 tournament?

If SFA2 hadn’t overridden SFA1, how was the story supposed to play out?
When you play with Ryu, you encounter Sagat as the final boss. When you play with Sagat, you encounter Ryu as the final boss.
This entry confirms that Ryu won the rematch. But Sagat’s ending shows that Sagat joined Shadoloo after defeating Ryu and still feeling empty. So, were they supposed to have two rematches or what?

The AAZ3 book seems to present the idea that it’s 3~4 years between A3 and SF2 with an unknown amount of time between A2~3 unless I’m completely wrong on my idea as to what that is on this page in top left:

Edit: It seems likely judging by this info I found on the character for “year”

I have a feeling that whatever is on this specific page will glean some interesting info.

The real problem now is how Capcom has decided to introduce fuzzy time. We know that SF4 was supposedly ~2 years after SF2, right? With SSF4 a year after that. That means that SFV must take place within one year of SSF2 for it to keep from stretching the timeline. Even if SF3 was 4~5 years after SF2, since the AAZ3 timeline does have a (?) on it, that doesn’t really leave much time for SFV to take place. Then of course we have the potential accelerated growth of the child Balrog found (can’t remember name) and Bison going gray to confuse stuff. Of course Capcom has completely ditched year numbers now so who knows.

SF4 starts its timeline 3-6 months after SF2 and continues onward from there for another 6-9 months. We can say that the SF4 tournament itself is about one year after the end of SF2. SSF4 is not a separate event.

4 years between Alpha and SF2 would be the most accurate guesstimate, since Abel was put in the care of his French father 5 years before SF4. This aligns his creation with the beginning of the human incubator cloning program which would’ve started after Rose defeated Bison in Alpha 1/2.

Capcom ditched the dates and ages of characters, but the timeline of events has remained relatively unchanged, with everything taking place in a timespan of a decade starting with SF1 and ending with 3s.

Where did you get the idea from that SSF4 is a different event from SF4?

Eventhubs had a timeline thing, and it’s certainly as accurate as anything else that was available at the time. shrug
