I disagree. The end goal of both their organizations is total control of the world. Those goals are mutually exclusive to two separate groups, making them opposing forces.
Not to be argumentative, but how do we know they have massive numbers?
I mean, Shadaloo has an army. I don’t think I’ve ever seen more than that from the Illuminati.
That’s ridiculous. Bison is an evil dictator. Not Cthulhu. What’s he going to do with a destroyed world?
As much as I love Bison, I agree. SF is really showing signs of progression finally, and if they keep him the central threat, the series can never really progress. Also, for such a magnificent character, growing stale is a terrible fate. I’m all for Gill getting another chance. He and the Illuminati have so much potentially interesting stuff. The SF3 stuff was interesting, now with active story telling who knows what they could really do with this thing.
I agree, but I’d rather have a new boss than Gill. Or he needs some serious redesigning imo, he’s way too goofy and silly looking imo. But I guess since its 3rd Strike, everyone here loves him…
The Illuminati are an apocalyptic cult waiting and preparing for the end times. Their entire shtick rests on anticipating a Messiah figure who will save them, the chosen few, and then deliver them to the next world/era of human history/human evolution (Paradise). They have shown no interest in actually ruling the world Dictator-style, so much as they went to influence human events, steering them in a direction that is most beneficial/aligned with their religious beliefs. They want to remain a Secret Society until the end times. Urien is the exception in the Illuminati.
Bison actually wants to subjugate the world through fear and power. His end game involves plunging the world into despair and then feeding on that negative energy personally, to become more powerful than ever before. Shadaloo, a global terrorist organization and crime syndicate is a tool to achieve this very personal ambition. A world in chaos is ample fodder for Bison’s Psycho Power.
They are not mutually exclusive as I am confident we will see in SF5.
Hah 2 weeks to improve on SF5’s narrative? GIVE ME A DAY and I am confident I could craft something with more care.
Also…WTF that single screen shot is about 100x more interesting and intriguing than everything in SF5…but, more than that, the art design isn’t stupid (yes I am still not a major fan of SFV’s art design…I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it).
And…what is Capcom’s absolute OBSESSION with choosing the worst designs of a group to use? Those Birdies are AWESOME…especially thin Union-Jack Birdie. Idiots…
Perhaps … we could create our version of story here on SRK? I mean, hell, UDON isn’t canon and people take that pretty seriously. Imagine what we could write!
Also, without answering to Capcom, we can cover anywhere as far into the future or as far back as we like… To the fan fic section! [types furiously]
I was thinking… Is there any canon evidence of this? To my knowledge, not the SFII ending, nor the SFA3 story or the SFIV endings or prologues hinted at any of that. And I think Vega wasn’t really featured in any of the prologue anime films in SFIV, either.
It’s not a bad origin, mind you, but I’m wondering if we’ve adopted it as his origin without actual proof on any official media.
Seeing this just makes me think that they originally intended to make Evil Ryu part of the canon, and to base SFV Ryu off of that going forward with a grittier more serious themed SF. Interesting enough we now have a Ryu who seems to be based off of the UMVC3 incarnation with a “Denjin Mode”, which technically wasn’t the name in that game but fans dubbed it so (Hado Kakusei- Wavemotion Awakening). Then in story we have Ryu in the process of trying to overcome SnH, which was going to be the original intended story before Capcom decided not to change Ryu’s look, but to give him an actual “Denjin Mode”.
I’m thinking the original story of Ryu trying to overcome SnH stuck from the prototype stages, or was intended early on before Denjin Mode.
Okay then. Anyone penning something for this idea is free to explore any point in the SF series, including retellings of game events and distant prologues/epilogues. There aren’t any character restrictions (write on who you like), so feel free to interject character into someone who hasn’t been fleshed out. Just some base guidelines:
-Please try to stay in character (No, Ryu and Akuma are not drinking buddies)
-Post in the Fan Fiction Library, NOT the SFV threads
-Don’t get super creepy and make fanfics look bad (Especially no Oro x Necro x Ingrid three-ways)
-Avoid OCs unless they’re someone who has been hinted to exist but never really given character (Goutetsu, Chun’s father)
-Tying into points 1 and 4, respect the source material! Bison does not job to Honda because you main the sumo in SF2.
I need like a hashtag/title for this movement, like #UDON’twrite or something
I think it’d be best to make a parent thread and people that are interested could discuss and coordinate to output something coherent…sort of like the way comics with shared universes are done. Just a suggestion.
EDIT: An editable opening couple posts would also allow for things like a character bible, etc
I kinda hate how capcom will make these really awesome redesigns for Ryu, but ultimately go back to his normal design. Look at how positive the reception for beard ryu has been. So many people saying it should’ve been his default! I really like the idea of an older, grittier looking Ryu. It makes sense too, since a wadering fighter is bound to look pretty rugged. I feel like the dirty gi tells a story more than everything else, whereas everything on beard ryu tells a story (scars on the body, pants are ragged and torn, cloth wraps instead of gloves, etc).
It has an organic feel to it, like some sort of Psycho Powered exomuscle suit, even though its no traditional I’m diggin it. I also like the fact that white haired Bison was something they planned early on that stuck.
