The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

I’m like 3-4 pages late but what makes you all think Karin was a “bitchy sore loser” and a more interesting character before?

  1. No. Rashid’s friend was working with SIN as a researcher and went missing around the time of their collapse. Since you did not play SF4, I presume you don’t know what SIN is. I will explain this really fast. SIN is/was the corporate front and weapons division of Shadaloo. They developed, researched, and sold arms the world over for Shadaloo and other clients. During SF4, their CEO - Seth, decided it was a good idea to try to gain independence from a weakened Shadaloo (that went underground) and ultimately paid the price for his betrayal. Shadaloo naturally had to salvage whatever it could from this corporation before its destruction, so they made copies of all their data and kidnapped their engineers/researchers. Crimson Viper is friend of Rashid though, but obviously not the ‘missing friend’.

  2. New character. Possibly could be Kolin (Gill’s PA) in disguise.

Before, she had her one-sided rivalry with Sakura. It gave her some character because you saw that she was an extreme perfectionist and couldn’t handle losing, so she completely obsessed over getting her rematch with Sakura to “correct” her mistake. This forms a relevant character because she actually has a goal and potential for growth.

Now let’s look at SFV Karin. She has become head of the Kanzuki family it seems, and effortlessly juggles being a member of the social elite with being a warrior (note, THIS IS KEN’S PRIMARY STRUGGLE). She comes back super powerful, and can challenge established world warriors like Ken, Dhalsim, and Zangief and expect to win. She isn’t “cocky” anymore, she actually has become THAT POWERFUL. And, to rub salt in the wound, who does she claim to be looking for? ORO. You know, the guy who can defeat most characters with one hand? By comparison, here are other notable interactions with Oro:
-Oro can ride on top of airplanes as a mode of travel and lift boulders with a single finger at the ripe old age of 140.
-Oro and Akuma fought in 3S, but were both holding back. I presume this is similar to Slayer v Sol in Guilty Gear where “everything in a 100 mile radius would get destroyed in the process”.
-Ibuki did fight Oro in SF3, but her goal wasn’t actually to beat him (UDON, may be canon), but simply survive against him a set amount of time.
-He has a long history of whooping people’s asses, including Karin’s ancestor (a 3-day battle!) and Makoto’s entire dojo (UDON, but I think it’s canon)

Akuma does not hold back. He either fights you to the death or he stops fighting you.

He fought Gen, and when he realized Gen was sick - He did not finish the fight.
He fought Ryu, and when he realized the boy isn’t ready and has the potential to become OP, he did not finish the fight.

If Akuma and Oro did actually fight and they both lived to tell the tale, then either Oro won, or withdrew. Akuma welcomes opponents like Oro, it would honor him to fight Oro to the death as it validates his entire life’s philosophy. It is my understanding that Akuma does not fight to a draw. He goes in to win or die trying.

Unless you’re Garuda, then he’ll run like a bitch.

Thats an argument?
I mean there’re a lot more fighters who are way faster than Ryu.
Ibuki,Guy,Cammy,Vega.

To dodge gunfire, you basicly need only good eyes and good reactions. If Ryu sees the guy pull the Trigger,he can basicly “go out of the way” before the bullet comes out.
Nash is using a technique that makes him a short time invinsible, which means he moves fast enough to become invinsible for the naked eye, something only the fasters Fighters in SF can do naturaly and I’m still not sure if he needs KI or other powers for this.

Now, with the Mary Sue rant aside…

Something tells me that Ed will be more than just a vessel for Bison going forward. Unlike the child Balrog rescued at the end of SF4, Ed is kind of a sarcastic asshole (“Generally, dead bodies don’t move around.”) and definitely has potential to be a villain down the line. Once he matures, I can see him and Bison working together similar to a certain Blazblue character…

Ed being the Hazama of the duo, with Bison being largely incorporeal except when he wants to manifest ala Terumi[/details]
On top of that, he’s blond, and therefore more likely to be important because Japan.

So glad you decided to come back to this thread and give us your insights. Especially after vowing you won’t (three times and counting).

I’m here because I’m bored.
I sometimes start flamewars, because I have nothing better to do.

And sometimes I need a break from writing.

What’s wrong with Karin being able to challenge the season vets and be expected to win? By the time of SFV Karin is one herself. She has established heavily connections within the fighter community and is on friendly terms with them.

She’s looking for Oro as he fought against her grandfather. Grandpa Kanzuki must be some Gouken level guy to even be a match for Oro. Being the new head, being able to challenge him would be the ultimate test.

OK, as someone salty AF about this “story” mode, I’ll list some of my ideas as to how it could have been made better using this exact style.

-Tying up all the loose ends from SFIV. A mention of Abel was neceassary in Nash’s story seeing as how he was the one that saved him. I can see them doing that in Guile’s story. though. Rose? Guy? Akuma? What happened to them that they (possibly) sat this one out?

-Telling us where ALL the characters that weren’t in 3S went to. Did Sagat just get old and retire? We needed LOTS OF cameo appearances in those stills.

-Some characters actually doing SOMETHING in the stills. Birdie and Vega had Fuerte level “stories” when they could easily have been made interesting. Birdie could have been linked to Shadoloo’s demise, Vega could have remembered his past with Cammy and tell her how he actually saved her once.

-The newcomers having stronger ties to the older characters. WTF do you mean FANG’s clan isn’t erlated to that of Geki’s? They had the perfect chance to relate the two!

Well if the manga counts for anything she has her father who bears a sort of resemblance to Heihachi from Tekken. Maybe Grandpa Kazuki was on Jinpachi level to be able to stand toe to toe with Oro.

On the subject of bullets. Not canon, but SHOULD be:

I was playing A3 before SFV’s release, saw Karin’s win quotes, arcade pre and post special battles and she doesn’t seem to have changed that much, she just got strong. It’s important to know how strong Sakura is too; Honda says that she is stronger than Ryu was the last time they fought. (A3)
Sakura and Karin are serious fighters now in V, even if it looks like simple Mary Sue-ing. Shibazaki is doing too much too, like when she sends shadaloo soldiers flying with that “incredible technique that almost no one mastered” then Zangief reproduces it seconds later perfectly…

In A3, it’s said that she lost a fight to Sakura and wants a rematch to honor the motto of her family. After traveling the world she finds her and challenges her for a fight.
After winning their rematch, she says that :

I can’t see a sore loser saying that, she handled her inferiority very well.
Comparing win quotes, I don’t see what makes her more bitchy in A3 than V. She just seem to have matured (and that started in A3) , but she’s still arrogant and confident. It was her family’s honor that pushed her to train and fight Sakura, now it’s something else. She’s hungry as shown by her looking for Oro, fighting Dhalsim instead, etc.

This is all by going with A3 and V only, I never read Sakura Ganbaru or UDON comics with Karin in them. Her wiki says that she’s the calmer one and voice of reason in her duo with Sakura in Namco X Capcom but these are all non canon I think.

Tl;dr Karin is not that much different for me, not seeing her for so long got her wrongly compared to Lili personality wise. Karin is just way stronger now, nothing else changed since her A3 rematch with Sakura. My English is not that bad but when I write that much it’s hard.

Are you referring to the fact that the scene is non canon, or to the fact that Sagat wouldn’t be able to withstand a few bullets at point blank range?

That the source is not canon doesn’t mean it can’t reflect the truth.
Judeging by this Ryus ability to dodge bullets might be true, but it was only shown in a non-canon anime.

TTTB and the SFIV aftermaths are non-canon too, but that doesn’t say that Chun cannot creat footballfield sized holes, using her Kikosho to it’s limit.

I mean it’s basicly what it’s all about here, it’s making theorys using all kind of sources and look if it could be canon.

Stop spreading your nonsense.

It was stated by Ono,sadly I can’t find the interview he’s saying it.

mainly because they changed the reason and Story behind the S.I.N tournament with Super SFIV, so the Aftermaths and TTTB didn’t fit into the Story anymore. I send you the link as soon I find the interview.
I just want to see your world burn…

That’s how I take stuff like SFxT and Project X Zone. It why I usually object to the notation of Juri wanting revenge against Bison. That game showed she’s perfectly willing to work with him to fulfill her goals. Her inevitable betrayal wasn’t revenge based.

Hey, guess what

Either give us the source (remember all those “japanese magazines” topic?) or shut the fuck up buzz off

Thank you

Like I said I’m looking for it, it’s pretty old 2010 if I remember correctly. Just chill, I want see Daemos cry, thats all.
