The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

Ed still seems a bit … young to make any effect in Street Fighter. Nash only recoils in his story because he wasn’t expecting Psycho Power, not due to any intensity of the attack. However, come SF6, I can see him as a character if not a boss/sub-boss. If Bison falls in SFV, Ed will likely be his ticket back into the swing of things once he gets older, such as a post-SF3 Street Fighter 6. Even if Bison does not reincarnate through Ed, the kid already seems to have a villain streak in him and may be precocious in his knowledge of Psycho Power, so I can also see him being groomed after SFV and during the events of 3S to take Bison’s place as head of Shadowloo, probably by FANG and/or the other Kings.

I agree in principle but did they ever clear up Makoto’s age in SF4. I mean she was only 16 in SF3 3rd Strike. Unless they compressed the timeline or just plain retconned it Makoto was like 13 in SFIV.

Sakura and Karin never hated each other, in A3 Karin lost to Sakura and travelled the world to get her revenge. She does and admit Sakura is the better fighter, says that what’s important is the moment of the fight.
Honda also says that A3 Sakura is better than Ryu was in their last fight, so if Karin looks really strong in SFV I wonder what Sakura is like now lol. I don’t think her main outfit is her schoolgirl one, it’s probably just her story alt. Giving her a new costume is the most obvious thing with what they did with the other returning characters.

I wish Ed’s name was, like, Cain, instead of Ed…

For, like, miles though? I don’t think it has that kind of range. Hence, the plane.

He travels via wormhole when it’s miles away. Anything else is teleport.

Agreed about Cain (the missing brother has to appear eventually).

Oh hey, I clipped and compiled a list of all of the story mode cutscenes: http://v-trigger.com/2016/02/16/street-fighter-v-story-mode-all-cutscenes/

I’m going to take a guess and say Rashid’s friend is C. Viper.

That’s the effect they want to create when you see him. You don’t expect or suspect a kid to be any sort of threat, when in reality he can be as strong as Bison

Reminder - Chris from KOF is also just a kid, see whom he turned into later as a boss. Just an example.

Maya = C. Viper. I’m sure that it isn’t a coincidence.

What I wanna know is who is the “Jade Goat” that C. Viper is referring to.

Indeed. Also…he doesn’t seem any younger than Sakura in SFA and has MORE claim to be powerful than she ever did. The point about Chris is perfect. Psycho Power can make him INSANELY powerful…and a Psycho Boxer sounds like the coolest thing ever.

And “Ed” might just be his name for now…something Balrog started calling him…but I suspect he actually is Cain.

If we get Ed, I hope he’s like Shin Little Mac from Punch Out. Especially funny since Balrog trained him.

No. Rashid’s friend was working with SIN and he/she was kidnapped by Shadaloo when the organization collapsed at the end of SF4.

Viper is Maya, his friend who is not missing and who has been text messaging him the whole time. She appears on his phone with a reddish snake for an avatar. Some of you keep mistaking her for Necro or Effie.

C. Viper probably KNOWS Rashid’s friend, as she (?) is a SIN researcher. That also means Juri and Rashid might wind up teaming up to liberate the SIN people from Bison. THAT would be a twist, huh?

Twist ending: Rashid’s SIN researcher friend is actually Seth who’s consciousness is a “ghost in the machine” somewhere in a SIN laboratory waiting for Rashid to recover him.

A twist because it makes absolutely zero sense for Juri to help liberate anyone.

Why is Rashid such a fucking bro. I honestly cared less about the character and now he’s my second favorite behind Necalli. He’s so damn chill.

Damn, they made Karin godlike. She apparently uses the hado like Ryu? Also, this freaking chick has Conqueror Haki? We One Piece now?

Character Prologues (in regards to character/story development & conflict)

LOVED

  • Ryu: very basic, and although repeated time and time again, it’s still provides Ryu a clear conflict in his quest to becoming a true warrior
  • Chun-Li: Loved her development from her Rookie days until now, and her relationship with little Li-Fen is just too adorable and inspiring (pre-SFIII)
  • Nash: enjoyed, but felt this one could’ve ended up more dark and gritty. Charlie Nash has WAY more potential to be a badass anti-hero
  • Necalli: Probably the most interesting backstory of all SFV
  • M. Bison: His master plan just makes me want to play the fucking Cinematic story expansion right now. HURRY UP JUNE!!!
  • F.A.N.G.: Interesting story of how he became a master assasin of poison hands. Very dark stuff
  • Cammy: Clear inner conflict with herself and her mission to rescue the dolls + interaction w/ Juni solidified deep development

Meh

  • Ken: A little development from the flashback to now. But just not as strong as others
  • Birdie: So he goes from a Shadaloo lackey to a Kanzuki bodyguard? Probably the most minute step up the hierarchy, But wished that his reason for getting kicked out of Shadaloo were a little more real, instead of arguing over a bloody hat
  • Vega: Smooth, interesting character as always, yet felt he contributed nothing to the plot or to Bison’s master plan
  • Rashid: too chill for someone trying to find a missing friend, although a noble goal. Was WAY more interested in Azam
  • Karin: Such a shame. She went from a pompous rich-girl to a very classy, almost lady-like character. I felt Capcom missed such a great opportunity to see how she’s changed. I love her character, but she’s almost too perfect for me to care, unless we had some backstory.

Disliked

  • Laura: Too much energy and enthusiasm for her character. Had a clear goal to promote Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu but lacked conflict. I just didn’t feel stakes were high for her. Like I didn’t care if she failed, which made me care less if she were to succeed.
  • R. Mika: Achieving Muscle Spirit in just that short a story? I feel it would’ve been more of a significant moment than getting saved by Zangief, which I found totally unnecessary. I wanted R. Mika to SUPLEXREPEAT that bear.
  • Zangief: Lacked the flaws needed for me to care.
  • Dhalsim: was just WAY too bored to pay attention with this.

Rashid + Azam is my favorite dynamic, not only in the game, but in SF in a LONG time. Very awesome couple of characters and great attitudes & personalities on them.

Karin is…meh. Making her not a sore-loser bitch totally removed everything interesting about her. She’s not supposed to be THAT good…she just thinks she is. That’s…like 100% of her actual charm…her massive inferiority complex. This game just removes ALL of that and makes her great at everything AND super friendly & accommodating. Um…why? What an annoying character now. Incidentally, since she has no real personality beyond “ZOMG I’m the best, look at me be the best” she feels like she has 0% relevance in the prologues despite being in them A LOT…which is strange. So many people interact with her…and yet it’s like she’s just some prop. Totally uninteresting.

Do you think that’s the reason why she was not found in the Cinematic story trailer? Because her role feels less like a character and more like (as you’ve said it), a prop?

I could see that. I was REALLY looking forward to seeing her return, hoping that she’d be sort of like a classier, skilled Dan…where she’s arrogant and what-not…but, nope. Instead we get Snorin. Zzzzz.

On the flipside, short as it was, Fangs story 100% won me over and made me pull a 180 on him. I LOVE THIS GUY.

If she’s the SIN CEO, she damn well better help if she wants that eye to reach 100% efficiency.
