The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

Power levels ought to take into account more than just raw power/energy, but also fighting technique and skill. For example while Dan can possibly hit Akuma in the nuts, chances are he won’t be able to get near him. This isn’t because Akuma can punch a mountain in two, it is because Akuma is simply a much smarter, more savvy, and more skilled fighter than Dan.

What you are saying are possible but unlikely scenarios in a clean 1v1 fight.

Cassie Cage and her father should’ve NEVER been able to take out Shinnok. NEVER. Seriously, EVER NEVER EVER NEVER. What MKX did to the power levels of that series was a fucking joke.

MKX > SFV in the story/lore department like it’s 1993

SF5’s story mode has not been released yet.

Go away.

Check the per thread…

Also, is Necalli the arcade boss of SFV?

She cares about all of the Dolls, It’s just that she only got the opportunity to save Juni due to the fact of Juri giving her up out of pity to mainly distract and escape from Cammy during her OVA.
Shadaloo probably would’ve had all the Dolls in both scenarios of them not being disturbed by S.I.N, or if Juri had properly captured all of them.

Johnson.carl96 explained it well, and the problem goes even beyond factoring skill or not.

When I was a kid playing SF2 I never got the notion that any character was invincible for others, story-wise. My friends and I could kinda agree that, say, Ryu might be the best fighter overall because he was the karate guy and the default character, but Zangief would be able to beat him if he played his cards well and Ryu wasn’t on point keeping him away; Dhalsim would beat him if he couldn’t find a way in; Blanka would beat him if he didn’t see the rolling attacks coming, and so on. The idea that all characters had a reasonable shot at beating each other even if one of them had the better chances and eventually won the key fights was cool. The idea that Cassie can beat Shinnok (or die against him) is cool.

Even if skill is factored, the idea of one character being a power level above another detracts a lot from the story on top being lame. There’s only so much you can do when 90% of your characters are made obsolete in combat by the top guys.

There is a huge problem when Akuma is faster, more skilled and more destructive/stronger than Zangief.

well I was looking at the credits on youtube and found this name under the credits for DIMPS , Miwa Shoda. I got curious about the name so I did some background checking on the net and think this might be the Miwa Shoda who work for Square. the person who wrote the story for the Legend of Mana and help with the story of Final Fantasy XII.

I think that the one issue with power levels is existing is that they automatically bloat due to trying to increase threats and show growth.

Case in point:

SF2 Bison as a dictator character with some over the top psychic powers -> Akuma -> Evil Ryu -> Creation of concept of “True Bison” -> Gill portrayed as a messiah figure -> Oni being a demon of pure energy -> Necalli being a being of pure energy (or SOMETHING) who has existed nearly forever and feeds on the souls / power of others.

It gets dumb. It bloats the most when you start introducing things like super powers, psychic abilities, immortality, and ki levels which cannot be easily classified or compared to anything that people can understand, or when other characters don’t have access to these extraordinary gifts. Especially since the power levels start to increase at exponential rates. See: generating fire with your upper cut -> splitting a waterfull -> Standing in a volcano/splitting a mountain ect.

However no matter how you shake it, power levels will exist in a story about combat you naturally want to tier characters strengths which results in fan produced “power levels” even if they are not official. The trick is to rein them in before they fly out of control. Gen and Sagat were great examples of increased threat and power levels of characters without them becoming absurd, until they were forced to start matching the characters who got to be over the top.

Is Ed (in Nash’s story) the little boy Boxer saved in SF4 ?

Sorry, but no. The Power Of The Glow is wholly appropriate for MK. And a mere Elder God is no match.

Yup but what makes me wonder. How many time has passed since IV and V seeing how he looks like a fully grown teen now?

Either he has some super mutant growth or dunno?

PS
What happened to vasili? Do he still update his story guide… Cuz holy shit most of the IV stuff of him makes no sense now like Gouken being a zombie or whatever

Hm now that I think about it.

I wonderd why Bison didn’t just fight Guy and took Rose away.
I think the Dolls were in this VTOL and Bison rather gave Rose back than loosing them again.
Guy is capable of slicing this VTOL into 1000 pieces. Bison would have lost most of his best agents then.

I think Bison just hates walking.

It seem’s the earliest event in SFV would be the beginning of Rashid’s prologue which begin’s 10 days after the S.I.N incident in SFIV. Nash’s story can take place anywhere up to a year after Rashid’s, but the age shouldn’t be that much of a concern for Ed because he’s a clone just like Cammy and Abel. His aging might be enhanced or controlled through technology, so his older appearance may be deceiving.

The plot guides information however extensive can be very misleading because of the credibility of statements like: (*speaks like a mindless drone) “Gouken and Gen are zombies because the plot guide stated they are dead, and this is absolute fact, so any game placed after the fact of when I stated they died must mean they have become un-dead. Now I must conclude they are zombies”. Without ever acknowledging the fact the plot guide had many other contributors who where way more open minded when facing changes in canon, even when there hadn’t been any major ones at the time (save for Nash).

So apply this same logic to Gouken, Gen, Nash, M. Bison, or even Goutetsu, Gou Hibki, and Chun’s Dad if Capcom decided to change their status from dead for some godawful reason.

Its because of the points you mentioned why we have story discussions like these to rectify about a decade and a half of misleading info like that.

Guy can do that!?

Bitch, please. Bison can just teleport his ass, he doesn’t even need to walk

This game is turning out to be straight up buttcheese

Sadly, i think ORO will never get a cg in the next story update :frowning:

Love his Japanese voice btw.

Soooo…seeing Ed in that hoodie with the cut-off sleeves and knowing Balrog is still watching over him I am getting a very VERY strong vibe here…

I would be SO down with this. It’d actually give some depth to Balrog if he was showing interest in training Ed to be a boxer like him AND it’d give us a new boxer in the game. Of course, I’m a little biased towards boxers :bgrin: but sue me…I love the sweet science!

Not sure about Ed becoming a playable character, but I do like the idea of giving Balrog some depth and a new direction.
