The IL FAQ/Information thread *Happ now is too grimey to even use Cherry switches*

My recent HAPP experiences…

I grew up playing SF2 at Family Fun Arcade back in the 90s so the P360 is pretty much the only stick I will play on. Obviously FFA was using the WICOs back then, but I recently got back into playing SF in 09 so I ended up having arcade-in-a-box build me a stick with a HAPP P360. The stick was perfect for a few months until it started having grinding issues at some of the corners. I never had any diagonal issues though and other than the grinding feel (which never effected gameplay), the stick worked fine. I then purchased a MAS joystick with the HAPP Competition a couple months ago and thought the stick itself was garbage. I could never consistently uppercut on it and the diagonals were iffy at times. I then tried looking for an older WICO P360 to put in my MAS, but had no luck at all and found out that they can easily go for $100. So I’m having Voltech mod my MAS with a new HAPP P360 again so hopefully (fingers crossed), I don’t have any problems with it.

It just sucks that the older WICOs are so hard to find…

Does anyone know where you can buy the cherry levered mircoswitches for happ super

what are peoples thoughts on the happ super is it considered to be a good stick or crap .
Before i read this thread i was thinking of buying and trying the happ comp / euro stick but from what everyone is saying i guess its more trouble then what its worth

?AC - Just get the Competition (or iL eurostick). You’ll be glad you did, trust me. Best $10 you’ll spend on happ parts.

I just got everything for my next build: happ concave buttons for punch and kick, happ360, and convex buttons for start/select/home. I’m painting those charcoal gray to ,get a ‘Dark Hai’ look. I’ll post up pics later

How are the NOS Wico microswitch joysticks that Lizardlick is stocking?

I have nine arcade cabinets and they all have P360’s on them. When ever I played it they seemed fine. But when I have people over EVERYONE complains about how they can’t hit the diagonals (They can’t jump forward and they can’t block). All of the P360’s I own are the newer ones.

I heard that to fix the problem of nailing the diagonals better in the 360, I need to replace the actuator. Where can I get this? If it’s cheap and if I can replace the actuator on all of my 360’s that would be great.

Also another thing I’m debating is whether I should just replace them all with Happ Competition Joystick with the hard spring, since a lot of the people I play use Japanese and they are use to hitting the switches anyways.

But I also heard that the Happ Competitions suck and the IL 8 Way Euro stick is better.

So I have no clue on what to do when it comes to getting the best American joystick. My philosophy is an American cabinet has an American joystick. I already spend a lot on the 360’s because I thought that was the best American but if I have to change everything so that everyone could get their moves out better I will.

Thank you.

You should not have to break it in. There really is no such thing when it comes to joysticks. They should all work very well out of the box if they are functioning properly.

There are tutorials on SRK to fix the actuator and other manufacturing issues with the Happ P360. Use the search function and you’ll find a couple of threads.

P360’s don’t have well-defined corners like comp or sanwa sticks though. It may simply be a matter of taking some time to adjust to the stick.

Two things please:

I need a link or someone to please post a in depth tutorial on how to fix the actuator on the Happ P360 so that it always hit the diagonals flawlessly or close to it. I can’t find it:(

I also want to know if the Happ Competition HEAVY SPRING will fit in the IL 8-Way Eurostick. Lizardlick says it does but I read on various posts that it doesn’t. Whats the real deal?

American sticks rule!!!

Thank you. Happy Easter.

On the spring: Kinda…What I mean is it will fit, but it doesn’t seat very well. I picked up both a happ and iL comp. I’ve got the heavy spring in there now, but you have to take your time and make sure it seats correctly.

If you wanted to make sure things worked, you could always just buy the happ competition and the iL actuator, which should do the trick. If you want to fight and say e-switches are shit compared to cherry switches, just replace them. Honestly, I don’t seem to mind or notice much unless I want to be really picky

anyone know the proper mounting height of the comp. stick? i want to expose more shaft yet keep it close to the arcade standard as mich as possible.

From Slagcoin:

“Happ/IL joysticks can be mounted 1/3” to 2/3" below the control panel in a 1-1/8" hole. "

That said, the height could vary anywhere from 1/4" to 3/4" depending on the cab or who made the case. Somewhere in that range and you should be fine.

please update the links :frowning: some links didnt works

oh btw i want to buy happ stick the best type for marvel vs cpacom 2 ,where can i buy ?

Right here.
Blue because it’s my favorite color, though they have others.

Im trying to understand, so the old (I mean like made in the 90’s old) Happ competition sticks were good. They were made by IL? So If I bought a Happ Competition in the last 2 years they were made by Happ but are shit now? How exactly do you identify which is made by which?

Question here: I have a MAS case with a crappy happ stick that stopped working properly a month ago ( reason why I just ordered a TE from madcatz ). Can I buy a brand new IL stick from lizard lick and replace that one with the happ that I have? They both look identical, so it seems it shouldnt be a difficult mod, am I right?

yes, and you’re probably doing yourself a big favor too since happ is crapp.

Just played w/an iL euro stick & Happ buttons in my SFAE for about 30-mins & this is my 1st time using Happ comp buttons (growing up, all I ever used were concaves in the local arcades). Not really too thrilled about them as I can see why Sanwa buttons are so popular (not a big fan of Seimitsu also). The iL euro stick’s cool but I still prefer a ball-top. I wanted to get an old school American-style stick (wooden case with an iL stick & concave buttons) for nostalgia so I think I might get some iL translucent concave buttons.

Finally, another mass-produced Happ stick:

I bought a Happ competition joystick way back in 2000 to build my first stick and it served me well for almost a decade. I made a new stick when I started playing MvC2 on XBLA, and my performance has been getting worse and worse. I knew it had something to do with that actuator, but I never fully realize the problem until reading this thread and one other. Thanks–now I know what I have to do.

what’s the +5 mean on a p360? i’m planning on swapping it with a happ comp and have no idea what the wire going from the pcb to the +5 is.
